[00:02:04] Tell us about yourself and how you got into comics very briefly here. I'm John yeah, and

[00:02:12] Around 2020 I was working full-time as a body photographer

[00:02:16] And when the pandemic hit all those weddings went away and I had no outlet for like creative

[00:02:22] Content or anything like that?

[00:02:24] So I just started redoing some like old film strips that have worked on as comic books

[00:02:29] And then just like kind of using like emotions

[00:02:32] I was going through an enemy calling stuff and then turning it into stories

[00:02:35] So a lot of the stories that I made since then came from like that experience of like

[00:02:42] Not all the uncertainty

[00:02:47] So

[00:02:47] How many did you make in the first year?

[00:02:52] I think we clocked it in

[00:02:56] Wow

[00:03:01] Not just concept or scripts full-fledged printed to buy

[00:03:06] In the hallway to buy

[00:03:09] 27 22

[00:03:11] Yeah, well now we have I think since january we came out with another eight or nine and we have like four more on the way

[00:03:19] Wow

[00:03:23] Your your biggest comic right now. Yeah, I say the one that sells the most is uh lock job

[00:03:29] Vistal level so it's a story about a mariachi seniors searching for redemption

[00:03:33] But he also bad old monsters with a silver string guitar

[00:03:39] That's the thing is that we need more mariachi heroes especially fighting monsters

[00:03:43] Exactly

[00:03:45] Um, and are a lot of your comics kind of tied a little bit to the culture and history

[00:03:50] They are I was looking to do something that like thought of panic felt more me and a lot of that is like that

[00:03:56] That's not bringing all that and there's not a lot of that that feels

[00:04:01] Like made by latin or latinus. It's more just like

[00:04:05] Here you go. Here's like a problem character and something and it just feels a lot

[00:04:10] I mean, it's an improvement over when we used to be creative characters

[00:04:13] So I've been going through a lot of comic history and latino for almost always called great the level eight semantics. Yeah

[00:04:18] Yeah

[00:04:20] And since you've been in the creators space you've got other creators right?

[00:04:24] You've been out of shows now. Uh, what does that look like?

[00:04:28] It's great

[00:04:28] So a lot of like other creators have been like super receptive on it and I've seen a lot of people that went from like concept

[00:04:35] To print on their own and that's been really cool to see like other people get inspired to start making things

[00:04:40] All right in inspiration

[00:04:43] Speaking of inspiration wonder what's this about? Well, let me phrase that inspired by generic role-playing games

[00:04:49] But they're not exactly but similar to Dungeons and Dragons

[00:04:52] Uh, what's the best story? So familiar Dungeons follows a group of siblings that are transported from a high school party

[00:04:59] Into a dv style game or the big F to find their way home

[00:05:05] But it's based on me and my seven siblings

[00:05:08] So it's all about different types tropes things like that

[00:05:13] My younger brother is like six two and plays like sports professionally and I am not so

[00:05:20] So I did it looks like that's you found the vacation but

[00:05:24] Dd

[00:05:26] Yeah, I know we talked about that comment on the podcast

[00:06:00] One unsuccessful game, which is the whole thing. Um, I play Walker's game, but I don't think it counts

[00:06:05] It counts. It counts. No, it's okay. So we're like who we turn to and we're like let's let's ask John and what he knows

[00:06:13] John's like I'm a professional

[00:06:14] Oh, he has a professional art right?

[00:06:18] He's cool guys, see because he's a guy's holder

[00:06:21] Don't take talk shop if you get familiar with it

[00:06:27] You could both roll the dice on your future and staff somebody

[00:06:41] In latino culture, we really don't see a lot of brown characters or even latino characters in the dd space

[00:06:47] And so especially nowadays when we see things like on youtube it's like critical role, right?

[00:06:52] We talk about that how popular it is

[00:06:53] It's great to see that we can bring it here to text of latino comic con

[00:06:57] What's hand in hand with what we are out there trying to do the representation

[00:07:00] And so with this and john of course and just a team here. I hope you all will enjoy our game

[00:07:12] So we hear the sound of the character rolling down like a private bag

[00:07:17] As the carriage stops to stop

[00:07:19] three

[00:07:21] Very different individuals are inside

[00:07:24] We see an omen a half-word and it's equally

[00:07:27] So we're going to start with elliott. Can you describe your character for us? Yeah, so um, I'm playing a note

[00:07:33] Um about three feet tall

[00:07:35] Little deal

[00:07:37] His name is toño. Um, he's a cleric. He's got this big cave and the color palette matching uh, vix

[00:07:46] um

[00:07:46] And so lots of blues lots of science very

[00:07:50] Wires looking protective

[00:07:52] Um and very short

[00:07:55] And I am playing uh, my character is a cacucla. Uh, he is a tiefling. He is a

[00:08:02] Hopeless romantic trying to find love in his life, but at the same time he's also a performer think that the gladiator like a

[00:08:09] Uh performance artist if you will does anything for the stage

[00:08:13] But at the same time what's really hard to make to make somebody fall in love with him, but

[00:08:18] It's hasn't found that

[00:08:21] I

[00:08:24] Am an orc bar

[00:08:27] Who has a Beatles haircut because I feel like that is the best hair cut to have for gonna be a bar

[00:08:32] And as all works I am often good at very very much into helping people

[00:08:38] Not just a fighting but I'm a big guy so it works out

[00:08:41] I'm big for an organ, but also about the music

[00:08:46] So

[00:08:47] As the characters come to the stop you guys

[00:08:49] And simply like as a character

[00:08:52] Into a small pork town called C foam bank

[00:08:55] There everything is alive music with like chit chatting. There's a lot of food vendors

[00:09:01] A lot of people like coming in and out of shops everyone dressed up in like this big bright

[00:09:07] Like beautiful outfits. There's like paper crate things like hanging from like different buildings

[00:09:13] There's a huge festival happening

[00:09:16] As you guys start to enter

[00:09:19] This older woman comes and she starts to put these lays on you. I need one of you struggles a little bit

[00:09:25] She's getting there as we lean over she's able to put it around you and she's like welcome to the buy back

[00:09:30] That the blue got this

[00:09:32] Enjoy your scene

[00:09:35] I just want to go

[00:09:36] I'm going to go for whatever music is happening. I am not on film at all. Okay

[00:09:43] I'm just scoping out, you know who I can fall in love with or notice me a little bit as I'm turning around

[00:09:48] I'm following these two making sure y'all don't get into trouble

[00:09:52] I'm looking for the beat of his off beat drum as well. It's trainer. It's the best way to avoid harm

[00:09:58] As you guys make your way through you see like these both motor boat dancers kind of doing a thing in the corner

[00:10:04] Everyone's falling alongside them as like they come through and then behind them just a few feet you see

[00:10:11] Like men women dressed in black following that are you like

[00:10:17] Those guys are like real partners

[00:10:23] Be considerate you've never been to the park party

[00:10:26] I don't know if I should everyone should

[00:10:29] Should we

[00:10:31] What do you guys want to do do you just want to try to see what they're all about do they look like they have any kind of

[00:10:35] like

[00:10:35] Rhythm on

[00:10:36] The people in front of you so the people kind of a whole video to be like led by a hand

[00:10:42] So there's a band kind of performing playing the dancers are coming of large group of people are kind of following them

[00:10:48] Closer to like where the docks would be and then behind them are the people in black, but they are very like

[00:10:56] They're going through some sort of like grief if you're kind of guessing off

[00:10:59] Okay, it looks like so much fun

[00:11:01] Oh, I know

[00:11:04] What should we do?

[00:11:07] You teach them the dance

[00:11:09] I don't think they're very welcoming to that idea at this moment. Um mean they're following music and they're not dancing

[00:11:15] They look a little not much of a party

[00:11:20] You still want to teach them a dance don't you want to I really do okay, um

[00:11:25] Let's follow behind

[00:11:27] Calima

[00:11:29] Don't make a big scene

[00:11:50] I prepare to play the bells

[00:11:53] I try to grab his arm. They know

[00:11:56] Uh well me and that

[00:11:59] Okay, now again, I'm new to this. I think we're all just athletics. You're not rolling yet

[00:12:04] Uh, so he's rolling the brandy you're you're doing your thing. You're pulling out. I have to roll a

[00:12:08] 20 yeah, all right here it goes

[00:12:12] A seven a seven as you reach out you're so excited to play you just kind of like lift it up near just right overhead

[00:12:20] Wait, you wait what you're about to you can make your drawing out if you want go. Yeah

[00:12:25] Everybody is he grabbing out of me? I can't

[00:12:27] So I just like bang the wargongs along a little bit to just like really really get the noise going

[00:12:35] So as you like start playing with a bow

[00:12:39] You notice that the dancers are on the Mississippi and the band's playing and they stop so there's a suddenly like record strange boy

[00:12:46] He's like

[00:12:47] I've been firing the movement

[00:12:50] All I've done us. Yeah

[00:12:53] Here we go

[00:12:54] The band starts to slowly pick up again as like believe it starts kind of like

[00:12:58] That you over to join in the best

[00:13:01] All right, so I hate to work that guy. Yeah, so you're gonna uh, we'll be a performance. So we'll be next one

[00:13:08] All right

[00:13:12] I got a 80. Okay. We're rolling high today

[00:13:18] I got you guys. Yeah, thanks. Uh, so uh as you go you're always just like a really good to off the

[00:13:25] But they're playing louder

[00:13:28] So now he doesn't really affect the movement of the crowd just like at home

[00:13:33] One of the dark press individuals feeling like that for this line

[00:13:37] Yeah, so they're still very much like

[00:13:40] Falling along behind like a party, but no one's really moving even with a pink stop. They didn't really seem to be ball

[00:13:49] Yeah, I'm going to be falling from behind

[00:13:51] So you're falling close because there's a lot of people. Yeah, okay

[00:13:55] So the party up front you guys are moving through as you guys go you start to hear like

[00:14:00] Voices coming from behind me saying like all student parking student parking student parking as they're uh, you see

[00:14:06] A

[00:14:07] Woman and a younger man kind of crossing through more of the people on by there. Okay

[00:14:14] I lean over to the lead guitarist. You know, I'm called Gorgamesh Clammer's

[00:14:19] I believe this is because I am both creative and glamorous

[00:14:25] Clamorous by

[00:14:27] You see I'm trying to keep the beat

[00:14:30] And he missed the beat

[00:14:32] Yeah

[00:14:35] I am going to

[00:14:37] Turn back as I hear the the mother. I'm assuming the two girls

[00:14:42] Coming towards us because we're behind. Yeah, I'm going to turn around to make it into the class five

[00:14:47] Okay, so it's

[00:14:50] Like a woman in like her 20s and then a younger man who seems to be about like 16 years old

[00:14:56] Okay

[00:14:57] They take the shoulder one of the mourners she turns around

[00:15:00] She is a woman in like her 70s and uh, I'll be like we're almost ready. Are you ready to go?

[00:15:06] But they're kind of now they're kind of falling along but they're not

[00:15:09] In black, um, the younger man is in like a white shirt kind of like blue pants to stick like Prince Aaron from

[00:15:16] Over me and the woman is in like a rider like pink shirt and her pants are more like layered out kind of if you would see on a stand

[00:15:24] Chip

[00:15:25] And they're like kind of ushering the always that away from the ground

[00:15:32] Up front can give you another performance. All right, so you're gonna roll this one

[00:15:38] I don't believe this time

[00:15:40] So you picked up the beat and now it's boom

[00:15:43] Boom. Oh, it sounds like a suburban coming through with like a bass

[00:15:48] But you're keeping the rhythm of band now. So now the people the cocos are kind of following you as you're playing

[00:15:55] They're dancing alongside you now the music of my ancestors

[00:15:59] Uh, so the awelita and the kids start to do lead away from the group towards the docks

[00:16:07] Why do you think they're gonna separate?

[00:16:09] I don't know. I'm curious to know why they're calling it. Well, it's getting ready for something

[00:16:14] so

[00:16:16] We have a we're having a dance party together they catch my eye and

[00:16:21] Should we

[00:16:23] Pull our work away from the party and to drive them along with us. Yeah, I would just get separated

[00:16:30] I would say that this from past experience to these guys

[00:16:33] I would not be hard to pull away with them but I would stop playing as I get full

[00:16:37] Are you kind of looking back to see if everyone's no if they grab my jacket? I thought it's yeah

[00:16:42] Okay, so I

[00:16:44] Want to grab his jacket so you can keep them from following the parade

[00:16:47] So i'm gonna reach your back and again. Yeah, this you can do so

[00:16:50] This isn't him like trying to do something away from me. He's trying to so you feel a hand on your shoulder

[00:16:55] Kind of guiding me away from the crowd. I just keep playing better. Okay. Yeah

[00:16:58] So as you guys move away, you start to like smell the breeze coming off the ocean there

[00:17:04] There's a lot more like kind of screaming arguing you hear people setting up

[00:17:09] So you can hear crates you can hear like ropes being thrown and you can hear the splashes of its high kind of pushing along the banks

[00:17:17] As you guys get there you see a small boat

[00:17:21] Like a small single sailboat there and you see the kids getting like a medley

[00:17:26] From now we got as we're getting on there at the same time

[00:17:29] You notice these like three other massive ships like all crews

[00:17:35] Along the side of them so a small like ortinto

[00:17:38] By three huge skvs. Okay, essentially on the water as you guys are like walking up to the bay

[00:17:44] The band and stuff that you can hear playing off the distance, but circling around

[00:17:50] Oh jesus

[00:17:54] We are still together. Yeah

[00:17:57] I'm playing but there doesn't seem to be any rhythm with anything anymore

[00:18:01] So just kind of like this is where i'm right in front of you

[00:18:05] I

[00:18:05] Would want to try to make sure try to approach the ship that the family to follow has boarded

[00:18:13] Okay, I want to try this. I want to see if they're boarding the smaller ship. Yeah

[00:18:18] Uh, so we'll meet a percent

[00:18:19] That should be the

[00:18:22] Most of these are 20 so that's specific

[00:18:25] At three great

[00:18:28] Wow

[00:18:28] Why didn't uh go up towards them?

[00:18:31] But you're not very like self-hearing about it

[00:18:33] So you're kind of coming up and you're looking around and as you look down you do notice that the uh,

[00:18:39] The two people are on the ship together and the grandmother is on like the bank like kind of doing your blessing

[00:18:46] Yeah, and you do notice that on her back is a smile or something here like a little pin

[00:18:53] Yeah, that's actually does it match my stuff? It does

[00:18:57] Yeah

[00:19:00] I believe down to this guy and like, uh

[00:19:03] The music smells different here

[00:19:05] What happened?

[00:19:08] We followed this this family that I feel we need something about them called me and plus the young ladies

[00:19:15] Pretty good looking. You know me. I gotta follow where the beauty goes

[00:19:18] Really?

[00:19:20] You're blaming how to follow yet

[00:19:23] All of this makes perfect positive sense

[00:19:26] The music you play you don't hear the beat in my heart

[00:19:29] For that I have against his chest. It's double check

[00:19:33] It sounds good

[00:19:37] So as you guys do that you kind of hear the two people like arguing on the ship

[00:19:43] And the woman's struggling to like reach the sail and the uh,

[00:19:47] The boy is really struggling to kind of get an anger up on to like a voice

[00:19:50] Are we on the same ship or we're doing that on the ship?

[00:19:53] That's our boat. Yeah, so you see them like struggling a little bit and you can hear that I would even go like

[00:20:00] Okay

[00:20:02] Don't know who they are

[00:20:03] But I started moving forward

[00:20:07] No, I agree. I'm gonna buy it. Yeah, I want to do a dynamic entry

[00:20:11] And I want to show off I want to go flip on to the boat and

[00:20:16] Roll the importance

[00:20:20] Oh

[00:20:23] That's a six

[00:20:31] Seven performance, okay

[00:20:34] Yeah, so you do a flip but there's a little bit of hard on the ship to the handle

[00:20:45] Notice me are you introducing yourself as being myself? I am at the hook like a son favorite. Let me help you

[00:20:53] As he's saying I it's conbued past. I go to the thing she's trying to get on the sail

[00:20:57] Maybe they call me Gorgobesh and Glamorous

[00:21:01] I believe it is because I am both creative and glamorous

[00:21:04] And I'm so like I've been walking on this ship this whole interaction and I finally get there and I'm going, you know

[00:21:13] Don't know the timing okay, okay

[00:21:17] Come on don't you the tyrant? Oh my

[00:21:22] So

[00:21:22] So the woman is really happy to have you hold the thing as her daughter

[00:21:27] I'm like, I am Lisa and this is my brother again

[00:21:43] My god, and he's like trying to tell the wheel to like get uh

[00:21:47] Get the anchor like I'm moving and there's just no real power behind

[00:21:52] Let me do that for me and then I look towards he said

[00:21:56] Trying to see if she's noticing at all

[00:22:00] So you're just like trying to go easy as easy as I can I'm going to slow. Yeah, I'm not trying to go too fast

[00:22:06] with hearts kind of showing off

[00:22:08] You know, it's not that so as you're going to pull it you're just like

[00:22:14] Let me help you and you're going like maybe two chain lengths at a time trying to try

[00:22:24] Show off your arms while you're doing that. Then she might notice you more

[00:22:32] Yeah, so as you guys are starting to like kind of help out you see uh

[00:22:36] Me yelling he said who was bringing to one another and she was just like we couldn't get the ship off the dock last time

[00:22:44] Maybe now the lights just have a chance and they go just like listen. No, they're just they're in it for the goal

[00:22:49] We don't need to cut this further and besides what if they don't want to help us at the end?

[00:22:55] And you hear he said just go like well, go cross-tammers when he comes with but it'd be nice to actually

[00:23:01] Get the morning rock before the end of the day

[00:23:05] You guys can hear it. Yeah more than anything I want to see a boat cross a bridge

[00:23:12] He kind of goes over to Issa and he looks back and he was just like I mean maybe we should get that guy

[00:23:19] But I heard Nicole

[00:23:21] What are you talking about why I probably approach Issa?

[00:23:25] And I asked Issa what is this goal? Would you mention?

[00:23:29] She's kind of loves and she was just like oh

[00:23:32] Taurus

[00:23:33] great

[00:23:35] Well, you know, it's uh, I did that

[00:23:37] So, you know, it's the one time a year

[00:23:40] Where and then she kind of like points off from the horizon and you guys see like this fog like heavy in the distance

[00:23:46] She's like a fog will drop and we'll be able to reach like the the purple eye

[00:23:52] For the one time a year where it's visible

[00:23:55] And we can actually sail to it and there's rumors of like a king's ransom of treasure

[00:24:01] She's like so, you know the treasure

[00:24:04] But we're not really in front of trying maybe uh, we don't

[00:24:07] Take care of the point and he's like no he isn't trying to reduce. We don't really feel like here

[00:24:14] Uh-uh five

[00:24:16] Six

[00:24:21] A plus three nine nine. Yeah, so you're like

[00:24:27] Something's not really

[00:24:28] Yeah, but you don't know exactly in which direction

[00:24:33] You can tell Issa definitely more into kind of telling you

[00:24:37] What the like what's going on it's like all that's kind of the whole

[00:24:40] The signal

[00:24:43] Uh, okay, and where's she right now? She's still on the like uh, short

[00:24:48] Oh, I'm gonna go to the last one over here. Okay

[00:24:52] Is she can get on the ship?

[00:24:54] It doesn't really seem like she's

[00:25:07] I can't she was just like I was never really one for the sea

[00:25:10] She's like my husband was and then later he taught my daughter and you know, she and her husband

[00:25:17] raised these kids, uh

[00:25:22] Yeah, but for me it was more so just like

[00:25:26] It was a million

[00:25:28] Are they making you go with them?

[00:25:31] No, they know that I'll just hold them back and they're really hoping to find this

[00:25:46] So I don't hear any of that but I don't know what we get all I go I could pick her up for you

[00:25:53] I'm unfortunately, he said again. Yeah, he said allow allow us I volunteer the team

[00:26:24] But we're really you're probably better off on her own and he says like do you want to find mom and dad or not?

[00:26:29] She was just like at least this time with the crew. We have a better chance of getting to the island and seeing

[00:26:37] Like we have to bring them home. It's been two years

[00:26:41] We we have to make a mess can I um

[00:26:45] Intimidate Miguel? Yes, so I want to go up to him and grab him by the shoulder and go hey

[00:26:51] Like it or not

[00:26:54] We'll be in

[00:27:01] Charisma or no, it's gonna be

[00:27:06] Intimidation is plus seven. Okay, so you do it and he's like

[00:27:12] Okay, that he said I got to say I'm gonna say anything goes like

[00:27:15] Thank you. Kind of look there but like pulls him away

[00:27:20] Off swag. Yeah. I just back on the back. She also said thank you. Okay, well

[00:27:25] And

[00:27:26] They kind of give you the lay of the ship is two levels. So underneath they have like

[00:27:32] Mexican stuff

[00:27:34] road weapons things like that a backup sail

[00:27:38] And not too much else you get to have like

[00:27:42] They don't really have enough like kind of funds to really armor the ship

[00:27:46] Especially compared to the ships that you saw next to yours

[00:27:50] But they're getting ready to take off

[00:27:53] And as they come back up you see like the band has come through

[00:58:51] All right, so these lights kind of like spiraling start illuminating like a roll in front of you guys you guys go

[00:59:03] A small kind of like mode

[00:59:06] Okay in the moment you see all these like bright lights kind of like flickering off these animals that are in the water

[00:59:12] These lights coming from my lights or their own lights their own lights produced by the

[00:59:17] By like the animals in the water

[00:59:19] You see a large structure in the middle of the gold mine

[00:59:24] You see a skeleton wrapped around an unidentified figure

[00:59:28] I got by the human eye

[00:59:31] Yeah, I sit on there by the old and it's anyway

[00:59:36] Yeah, okay. So we have this moat thing

[00:59:40] You hear east side me gal saying like they're not here. They're not here

[00:59:44] Like, okay, they're not here working. Maybe can I detect magic? Yes

[01:04:39] You notice that the skulls will be here whatever it's holding is kind of keeping it balanced as the turtle's rocking

[01:04:50] Get the skeleton down. Yeah, we try to shoot something that I can try to use my my hand to grab it again. I have the

[01:07:53] The Miguel like I got it and he runs back to go grab the dragon as he pulls the water washes up from the poles

[01:08:00] Over the speed as the turtles are like now descending the water is filling like a top end of the island downwards

[01:08:05] How how much are we trading water? You're trading water. Okay. Yeah, so you guys are only eat away from the boat

[01:08:11] So as you go in the ship because no one's on it

[01:08:14] It's kind of like slowly get pushed away. The anger is there. You're a good single jump to make me

[01:08:20] So the water is now rising up

[01:08:23] Um, it really is

[01:08:24] Holding it but the dragon isn't really his body. It's kind of looking to Kevin for guidance

[01:08:29] It's good. There's any board to be like pulling him like a dog pulling them. Yeah, but it's probably you

[01:10:29] That takes off a little little change. It shakes off a little scale into your hand

[01:10:40] The kids are looking down at like this bucket

[01:10:44] Just like you're not sure but exactly that next

[01:11:00] The end the head of the turtle kind of picks up as it's looking over the ship

[01:11:30] So you're communicating with it, but you can hear like a voice kind of moving your egg

[01:11:34] Just saying like a life or a life as it's playing there. It's like looking towards the end

[01:12:50] We're sliding in boxes 16

[01:12:53] Oh one and then the 16th or 17

[01:12:56] That's how that works, right? I'm not a buddy

[01:12:59] So as all this is happening you're gonna look over you're gonna see him almost get blast out of the bowl

[01:13:04] Maybe you're gonna see like your baby

[01:13:05] Oh

[01:13:13] He's just completely blasted as you go over people face first towards the water

[01:13:19] Yeah

[01:13:22] One way

[01:13:23] Like

[01:13:24] Like

[01:13:27] So all this on but the turtle is like starting to sail away

[01:13:31] You can see a smaller turtle, which is probably about the size of your boat now

[01:13:35] Sailing down within and you just your pet all going down

[01:13:40] And you guys look on the thing the chest blown the bits

[01:13:44] Debris everywhere as the mom and dad are sitting on the ship

[01:13:49] Confused but happy as you guys start sailing back towards the main

[01:13:52] I'm facing I'm facing the other direction looking down at the turtle with the little turtle underneath it

[01:13:56] And I go it really is turtle all the way down

[01:13:58] I told you and now we can confirm they were bootable

[01:14:02] I have a bunch of parents

[01:14:03] I have a bunch of parents help them up, okay, and I say

[01:14:10] Hello, I'm Gabutla. I am your new son

[01:14:12] Can I just cast casual curing words on those things?

[01:14:17] Yeah

[01:14:18] Meanwhile, I can I can tell something

[01:14:20] I can also say healing words to my family
