[00:00:00] What's up, Primos, Primas, and Primas? Welcome to My Primos, My Primos, My Primo Podcast. Welcome to the My Primos Podcast. My name is Freddy. My name is Kevin Garcia. My name is Elia Maria Matriz. My name is John Adina. This is Chukumi. Whenever I can make it. My Primos Podcast discusses all things fandom and pop culture. From comic books, movies, to whatever obsession we have this week. But with a Latine, Latine, Latine perspective. Remember, we're all Primos. We're all Primas. Primas. Primos. No matter what, Primos.

[00:00:29] What part of the world we're from. Hey ondas, Primos, Primas, and Primes, and welcome back to My Primos Podcast. I'm your Primo Freddy with me tonight. We're full house. And I want to just welcome, welcome Mr. Kevin Garcia.com. Say what's up, Kevin. What's up, Kevin? There it is. I missed it. You know what? It's growing on me. It's growing on me. Like, you know what?

[00:01:00] When it's not there, you feel its absence. You do. I'm just like me. I wasn't here. I expected it every time. Yeah. I wasn't here and you missed the absence. Well, people ask you, why don't you do it when Primes is out here? And I'm like, because I can't set myself up. It doesn't work that way. Like, it's George and Gracie. You can't have, you know, Gracie without George. Ah, we got it. And of course you have- Did you ever get that reference? Because that's- No, but I'm going to walk right past it. Dang, I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I'm not even going to pretend.

[00:01:29] I'm not even going to pretend. I'm older than everybody here. What is it? I'm really an old man. Tell me. I can Google it later. George Burns used to have a TV show back in the 50s. I'm with George Burns, yeah. He's a good guy. His partner, Gracie, you know, is taking the pictures. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not Gracie? Yeah, I remember. Yeah, yeah. I was not even thought of. Your parents weren't thought of yet. Let's put that one. My mom was not. That's crazy. That means- Whew, Kevin. Showing your age, man.

[00:01:58] Elia, welcome Miss Spice Illustration. Say what's up, Elia. What's up, Elia? There she is, everybody. There she is. And Mr. John Avena from the cold north of the country. I don't know what you call that. The cold north. The cold north? Yeah. The windy north? The city of ice? What is it? Hot air city? It's the windy city. The hot air city networks though. It's not, it's not, it's not. I heard it's not windy really. Right, John? It's not? Yeah, I lost you for a second.

[00:02:29] John's like, I've disassociated. He's like, I don't even know what you're talking about. I remember this place you talk about. Well, from the windy hot city. There we go. There we go. All right. All right. Sorry about that. I thought I stunned him so much with my, with messing up his home to the city. So, you know. But, John Avena, everybody. Say what's up, John. What's up, John? There it is. What's up, John? So, John, I was saying the Windy City because it's, apparently it's called the Windy City,

[00:02:58] not because it's weather, but because of all the politics and like the hot air. Isn't that kind of why it's called? That's what it said. Apparently that's why it's called the Windy City, not literally. It's that, the city of big shoulders, because you just bump into people constantly. It's a daily. I never heard that one. The city of big shoulders. Yeah. I'm not familiar. Interesting. Interesting. We have a special guest tonight. Somebody that's been coming on the show since like the first season. I mean, second season. He's been on every season.

[00:03:27] I think you're tied with Hector Garza. Is it Hector Garza? That's tied for the most episodes. I think he is. I think he is. Yeah. Hey man, award winning. You know, Hector Garza. Or the, yeah, he's going for the belt. We have Hector Rodriguez III. Say what's up, Hector. Hey, what's up? Hola. Hey man. Saludos, saludos. Say, Primos. Your Primo Freddy is back.

[00:03:53] I've been out for a little bit, but I want to just kind of voice some concerns here. I did get some couple emails saying that, hey, the show's been great ever since you got rid of Freddy. He goes, I really like that Avenia guy. So, you know, I got to get him a hard time. So are these emails coming to you from at Aveniacomics.com? Right? Just him directing his... He's trying to guarantee me for next season. Ah, okay, okay, okay. No wonder, no wonder. They want the renewal from the next year. Yeah.

[00:04:23] No, but you know what? People have been really digging it, man. I got a lot of great, you know, compliments from the show. You guys taking over while I'm away, so I appreciate that. But Primos, I'm back. They can't get too comfortable, because you know, they kind of let a little loose whenever I'm not around. But remember, Primos, you guys can follow us at MyPrimosPodcast and check out MyPrimosPodcast.com. We also have our Patreon. Go check out the exclusive content on there, like Weekend Wednesdays. Awesome. I'm in charge of it. Look at that. Which has been a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun. Go check that out. We got merch.

[00:04:51] We got merch at remember, Patreon.com slash MyPrimos. We have our cooking show from there. And then Kevin Garcia, of course, chips in with his comic reviews. And I got my gaming stuff on there as well. So, you know, Hector, you're a gamer as well, man. You know, so you check it out. You can go and support. You know it, man. You and I, Freddie, right? Man, you know, we go, we got some history. Way back to the day working at a GameStop together, you know? Right, managing. Yeah. Managing GameStop. Wait, is this true? It's been a wild ride. 100%.

[00:05:20] Oh, I didn't realize that. 100%. I feel like I've heard that before. I didn't register it before. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I was at GameStop for close to five years? Five years? Four, four, five. A manager's conference doing the inventories, right? That's about how long you've had it. Launches. Yeah, man. Hollywood Video. Hollywood Video. Wow. I know. I'm old. Showing my age again. Hollywood Video. But it's becoming a deal, man.

[00:05:49] Now getting your hands on physical media is becoming like the thing now. I never stopped. It's no longer. I don't trust those creators. I don't trust them. Ugh. I like owning my stuff. Touching it. I like being able to find it when I need it. Like, I want to find a really weird obscure movie. Oh, I have that weird obscure movie. Here we go. You know? Yeah. I don't like trusting. Like, it's not even weird in obscure movies. They'll be like, I just want to see The Hobbit. And be like, we don't have it. Nobody carries it. Yeah.

[00:06:17] And everyone changes it every like two months. It's like, oh, it's over here now. It's like, I'm tired. What it is with me right now is music because the streaming services have changed up music on you without you realizing it. Those old heads like me that know how a song goes from like soup to nuts when you hear the song and they kind of kind of feels off. Like this sounds a little different. No, this is supposed to ring a little longer here.

[00:06:45] Like, like from the original record or the original CD or whatever, you can listen to the song and you're like, wait, it sounds so different now. Yeah. You start finding out that they are recording versions or they have like up recorded versions just for Spotify or just for, for Apple music. Wait, are you listening to Taylor's version? Cause you should be listening to Taylor's version. Oh yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was hinting at it, but I didn't want to just come out and say it. You know what I mean? Like it's a little different. Taylor's version. I've had my students see after me several times because they hear my playlist and the

[00:07:14] Taylor Swift song will be on it and they'll be like, is this the Taylor version? Cause it better be. And I'm like, oh, okay. Oh my God. I don't even know that that's a thing. So what happened is, is that she got to an issue with her former producer. Basically was withholding all kinds of like royalties and stuff from her. So she goes, fine. I'm just going to rerecord all my old songs. So whenever they play those versions, I'll be getting my own royalties. Uh, because he was trying to like hold it above her head for something. So she's like, fine, I'll just record them again. So whenever you see Taylor's version at the end of it, it's because she's making her own money now.

[00:07:45] Okay. She rerecorded it. That's wild. The music industry. Yeah. It is a beast. Oh my God. It's a mess, but it's about physical media, physical content we can touch. Right. And as you know, things like we talk about, like comic books, gaming too. I'm all about having a physical game because you learned eventually, like they can revoke your license now. So if you download a game at any time, they can just pull the license from you and you earn money. It's gone. Yeah. So what tomorrow's the Nintendo store?

[00:08:15] I've been thinking about it all day. I'm like, okay, it's coming. It's coming. I'm there. Kevin dude. Yeah. I'm not going to get into a Nintendo thing, but I could go off a Nintendo cause I am a Nintendo fan boy from back in the day. Yeah. Yeah. From the days of the Donkey Kong. Hold on. I remember he, this is a guy that loves Zelda two. Everybody else. Zelda two is the best of the 2d Zelda games. It's not. Dude. Blasphemy. Link to the past is the best 2d Zelda. Look, I'm going to throw out Minish cap.

[00:08:45] No one talks about Minish cap. She's right. I can't argue that. It's a good one. It's a good one. Link to the past, Minish cap, then Zelda two. I will. Are we doing a list right now? Are we doing a two or three? I'm sorry. Ocarina. Okay. Don't talk shit about the one with the train. Cause everyone talks shit about it. And I think it's actually really good. I've been posted. Yeah. That's like one of the few Zelda games I haven't played. It's so bad. It is so relaxing. It's so relaxing. I'm going to burn. You're going to go back to the Zelda games. Like this would be a lot better if it was on a train. Yeah. Yes.

[00:09:14] I know it has nothing to do with the plot, but it was rather enjoyable to play. Leave it alone. It's like, I don't know, man. Spirit track sucked and Wind Waker sucked and- What? You shut your mouth about Wind Waker. I know I said. That's fire. That one got a lot of hate. Come at me. Come at me. At my Primo's Podcast. At my Primo's Podcast. You've been breathing that Fort Worth air too long. Hey, I'm telling you. Look, Ocarina of Time is not the best Zelda. It's not. Sorry. What about Majora?

[00:09:43] What do you say about Majora's Mask? Majora's Mask is way up there. Majora's Mask is way up there. Okay. Okay. I love Majora's Mask. And we're back. We're okay. I'm okay. Majora's Mask is the best. Someone down there at the bottom is like Spirit Tracks, Minish Cap, and then it's like Zelda 2 at the bottom. Okay. But we're getting the movie, what, in two years? 20 seconds. We're talking about Majora's Mask being Zelda, Link, right? Yeah, of course. Did you guys hear how they announced the date of the release?

[00:10:13] The release date? No. How? How was it? So Nintendo said a couple days ago, they're like, hey, we have an app now that you can download. That's the Nintendo calendar. And it'll let you know whenever there's an event coming. And people who download it start flipping through it, they're like, wait a minute. We already had the release date of Zelda movie on there. It's like, what time is that to announce? Really? I mean, Mark Wahlberg and Link was a weird choice. Mark Wahlberg as Zelda. Oh, I think, yeah, Mark Wahlberg as Zelda.

[00:10:41] Yeah, we got Danny Trejo as Tingle. Oh, man. I would pay to have Danny Trejo as Tingle. That would be great. Yeah, that's great. We have this. I was supposed to draw him. Yeah, we mentioned it before. Michael Cera is Link. Michael Cera is Link. Did you guys have the Zelda conversation when I wasn't there? No, you weren't here. What? Were you not here? Yeah, we fan-casted it. Who was it? Now I can't remember who it was. Sorry, if you were on the show that day, I am sorry.

[00:11:11] But it was like, we cast Ganondorf. It was Seth Rogen. No, Seth Rogen was Ganondorf. Was it Seth Rogen? The huh? Yeah, Seth Rogen was Ganondorf. It was Michael Cera as Link. Yeah. Zendaya as Zelda. But Zelda's the... Isn't Zelda the kid with the green suit and the sword? No, come on, man. Don't play. Don't do that. Come on, man. Don't do that. That was Mario. That's Mario. Mario.

[00:11:41] That's Mario. Mario. Mario. It's the Mario tween. I always said it the way my dad said his name, Mario. So I was like, Mario Brothers. You know, it was like... And it was weird. He's Latino. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he's a primo. He's a primo. He's a primo. He's Mario. The Mario tween. Mario. Yeah. No, but yeah. Like, no. Yeah. How do we get to Zelda? I don't know. But Hector, we are here today to chat. Video games. Hector. GameStop. Zelda. There we go. We're back. We're back. We found it. All right. That's our spirit track.

[00:12:11] That's our spirit track. Oh. Now we're back on spirit track. Goodnight, Gracie. Goodnight, Gracie. There you go. But Hector, you have your hands and a lot of different... I don't know. Fingers and a lot of pies. How's that going, Kevin? I was getting scared for a second there. I was like, where are you going with that? Where are you going? Irons and the... Hey, I said fingers. Yeah, your fingers are all of irons. Yeah, okay. A lot of fingers and pies, irons and pots. Fill in some holes.

[00:12:41] But, yeah. Hector, you're here to also... It's a passion, man. Yeah. It's a passion to fill those holes. Right, Kevin Garcia? All of it. It was after hours. I need to go. Ooh. Hey, man. It's that time. It's that time. This is not a kid's show. Every time YouTube asks me, is this a kid's show? I say no. I say no. I don't cuss. I don't cuss. Yeah, Kevin's the good one.

[00:13:12] I'll swear enough for both of us. There you go. Don't even get here, man. Thank you. Gosh darn it. You're here, man. But, Hector, you're here to talk about your current Kickstarter that's going right now, live. Right. Because we know that you are a creator of El Peso Hero. Tell us about the campaign. Yeah. Tell us how we can support you. Tell us what's going on with El Peso Hero this time around. Well, we're celebrating 14 years of El Peso Hero. It will be the 15th anniversary next year of El Peso Hero. Are you going to have a quinceanera? I know. It's the quinceanera.

[00:13:41] Oh, my God. Hey. I know a videographer. Wait. I know a videographer. I have a one-shot. El Peso Quinceanero. Yeah. A quinceanero. El Peso Quinceanero. Yeah, make it an apology. We'll all agree. I'm thinking about it. Oh, and all the villains come back and La DoƱa come back because they're all mad because they have to be invited to the party because they have to even if you don't get along. And then they're all mad. He's bringing them. They're trying to fight over the centerpieces. All right. Hold on. Let me make it happen. Let's go.

[00:14:10] What's the writer in the center, please? Write it down. It's just like a- it's a little gag fun comic. Yeah, it's a little fun one, man. Is this who he's writing it in? The Death Note. The Native Planner? What? It's the Death Note! Okay. I thought it was the death note. I thought it was the death note. I was like, what? Oh, my God. I was like, oh, shit. It's the death note. That's what I thought it was for a second. I was like, what? Things got real, right? Shit just got real. Just real quick. Things got real. Remind people again.

[00:14:35] I always describe El Paso Hero as being like, what if the 1938 Superman was Mexican and lived in Texas? Can you- Yeah, yeah. That's a great analogy. So like, Doc Savage. Yeah. Classic Pulp Hero. Classic Pulp Hero. You know, Mexican Luke Cage as well.

[00:14:58] You know, and so, you know, it's a NorteƱo borderland hero, you know, fighting against cartels, helping refugees, you know, dealing with the social aspects of the border culture between Texas and Mexico. And it's been, yeah, it's been going on quite a long time. And so, you know, we did a issue and you, you're with Ukraine crisis when it started. Got a lot of heat from that.

[00:15:27] My site was knocked down. It wasn't? What? Backtrack? It was. But Russian, yeah, yeah. The real Marvel comics. You got hacked by Russian? Yes, yes. God. I had a, I had a, yeah, because the, it was a, it was a free comic, you know, and it went viral. And it was the, you know, we were, we took a Pulp Hero away from the border and into somewhere completely different. You know, my, my deal was if, if their heroes are able to go around the world and be super

[00:15:57] humanitarians, you know, Superman, even you have Batman, you have other characters as well, you know, why not our own? And so I had a Pulp Hero doing humanitarian works in Ukraine, helping civilians, you know, and I was racing, it was a free issue. I was racing funds for UNICEF. NBC did a story on it. I think it was in Telemundo, I think too. Yeah. And so it went, it went viral.

[00:16:24] And then all of a sudden, my site was locked down. I had, I went, got some help and they're like, Hey, you know, your site was, the house attack, attack. Dan, that's right. Yeah. That's scary. And I'm like, oh, nice man. Badge of honor. I mean, you know, you're doing something right. Hey, at least somebody is standing up to Putin. Hey, somebody. Right. And I was, you know, and yeah. And I got a lot of heat even. Yeah.

[00:16:53] And it was the first thing the alt-right is always, you know, has been on to me or since 2015. It's the case you're doing something right. Right. In this case, I was confused because they were backing Russia. They were very open about it. And I'm like, I was like, y'all, I don't, I don't understand. You know, I said Ronald Reagan, your guy, you know, like, that was like, yeah. So you all for, you know, Russia or the authoritarian. Yeah.

[00:17:23] I'm like, yeah. Anyways. Yeah. It's always been going on and, you know, and, and so the last book was, uh, El Peseo

[00:17:50] Hero of Border War is no exception to that. It starts with a bang, just where El Peseo Hero of Sicario Wars ended off. And I'm actually really, really excited for the last page of this book. What happened on the page? Which I could tell you. It has never been done. I've never done this, you know, and it's, I've never done this. And it's, I've never done this. Yeah. It took a lot of self-reflection to do this.

[00:18:18] He puts on a mask and costume with a cape, but it is, yeah. It carries over to the 15th anniversary of El Peseo Hero. Oh. It's Quinceanero. It's Quinceanero. El Quinceanero. Well, Hector, um, the campaign is live right now. Yes. So how can people search for the campaign for this particular arc and this story? Yeah. I mean, you can just, uh, go to Kickstarter, type in El Peseo Hero, see our, um, you can, you know, it'll be right there on top.

[00:18:45] You can also go through our social handles at Peseo Hero, at El Peseo Hero. Uh, just Google Peseo Hero.

[00:19:15] But it's always that. And I'm just curious, how did that come about? Why did that come about? Well, that evolution happened. Uh, you know, it was, well, the birth of El, I'll say the birth of El Peseo Hero Hero happened 2003 when I actually started writing it and I really, uh, you know, got the idea.

[00:19:34] Well, you just, it was brought to me and it was just a, a big avalanche of, uh, a big, uh, point where I needed to express myself and, you know, everything came to it. So, but it was until 2011 that I actually started to make that into reality as a webcomic. And so I was very heavy into the webcomic scene with El Peseo Hero.

[00:20:02] Uh, and you know, and before that, yeah, I've done comics, you know, you know, I've done a storyboard for independent movies and, you know, and I met Javier. I've done this back when I was in college through MySpace. Name dropping. He was giving me to name dropping. I know. And he, you know, and I followed. No, Javier is a great guy. Yeah. He helped me a lot to grow, you know, and he, it was almost like, you know, it was my Nick Fury.

[00:20:29] You know, it's like, you think you're the only one, but there's a whole world of Latino creators. Right. And so, you know, it got Richard Dominguez, you know, Tocantou. Right. And so, yeah, Rafael, you know, creator of Sonambulo, you know, it's yeah. So it just brought in my horizons. And I'm like, wow. And yeah, he took me in. He, you know, and then it was, yeah, Pusir was a webcomic.

[00:20:56] And my, I really wanted to have a authentic portrayal of the border. So much so that I, even the cartels had their actual names from the real world, but I was advised not to do so. He's always over. He's always over. He's one thing to go after Putin. It's a whole other thing to. Yeah. Mess around with him. Yeah. But that gets the main question though. How did the language part come about?

[00:21:25] Where is, where he always speaks Spanish. Everybody else always speaks English. Yeah. And so I was, I was having it where I was maybe 70% Spanish and the other, you know, I had subtitles like under. But noting, noticing my analytics and my fan base that was mostly English speaking and my feedback from my webcomic. I was like, you know what? I think they want to, they prefer English. I just because they, it's this looking up, you know, there's that extra step, you know, of trying to.

[00:21:55] So I made everybody in English, even my Mexican characters. But for the exception of Pesajiro, he was, he needed to be in Spanish just because of that cultural representation, that language representation in Spanish being bilingual, growing up in the border, Spanish being my 50%. I was like, no, it feels very authentic to grow up in the border.

[00:22:15] Like I, that's exactly what I see every day, but I was describing it to somebody and they were like, it gave the impression of the, he understands English, but doesn't want to use it. But he expects everyone else to understand Spanish, which I'm like, I can respect that. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and funny thing, I was at a workshop with Mark Wade and, and then I had the question, you know, about Pesajiro language, right?

[00:22:38] And he's like, Oh, after, you know what you can do, just put his, put the, use the gutters, you know, just put the subtitles, you know, his translation, the gutters. And I'm like, ah, no, ah, no, it just feels too busy. And, um, I decided, no, you know what? I mean, he speaks pretty plainly. I don't go overcomplicating. He speaks from him. Right. And so you're able to, there's a lot of cognates and you're able to. I mean, I don't feel anything wrong with it. Your character speaks Spanish. That's it.

[00:23:08] Like period point blank. There shouldn't be any, you shouldn't give up any cache. I mean, I get it. It's interesting. Cause I, it's, it makes it distinctive. And I'm just kind of curious, you know? Yeah. And for that point, uh, you know, like Mark was saying, Hey, well, then Pesajiro will never make it mainstream or direct to market because you have majority English speaking. I'm like, eh, well then it's the way it is, you know? I don't know. You know, it's funny when I first read through it, I didn't catch it cause I'm bilingual.

[00:23:38] So I was just like, Oh, I'm just continuing reading. What the thing that, that, that, uh, made me go back and look was the font difference that I like. I was like, why is the font different? Oh, cause like in my brain, I'm just like reading the same thing. Reading the same voice. Yeah. So I feel like you write your, your stuff in bilingual too, right? I've seen a lot of your books have Spanish in there. What, how does that work on your end? In bilingual. So I just, what, like, I'll just switch thoughts when I'm like talking to somebody or it goes.

[00:24:08] So I just write the same way. So if somebody is using like a slang term or just, if they're talking to someone that only speaks in Spanish, I'm not going to translate it because they're speaking Spanish. Like that's just it. And you just keep going from there. I've never gotten a complaint. Someone asked me about it once and I just saw them like, that's just the way it is. Like, that's my life, man. Yeah. I just thought of something. There's a, there's a middle ground. You can do what Netflix does. Um, and just put speaking foreign language every time he talks. Oh my God. I have a shirt that says that. Oh my God.

[00:24:38] It pisses me off. So like I was watching Maya and the three of a show that's all about teaching kids language. And whenever a Spanish word pops up, it says speaking foreign language. I was like, are you serious? Are you serious? It makes me so mad. But telling you that a best hero has to speak English to get to the masses. I feel like there'd be somebody telling the judge dread creators. Well, you have to have him take off his mask. Otherwise people are going to watch it or read it. Right. Yeah. So yeah. So yeah. So yeah.

[00:25:06] 14 years, uh, uh, you know, a lot of ups and downs, but you know, it's all about like John, you were saying the last podcast by being consistent. You're right. I mean, folks ask you how you do it. Well, you know, like you said, you have a schedule, right? You said you, what you wake up in the four in the morning. Yeah. Right. It goes to three in the morning. Yeah. Yeah. Like a crunch time for stuff. So it's like going to bed at like 11, waking up at four.

[00:25:36] And then just, I mean, you just, if you make the time to do the stuff you want to do. So yeah. Yeah. You do. You know, it, it, it, especially if you have that drive, that passion, you know? And so for, you know, I wake up, yeah. At five, I go to the gym, listen to you all get back, go to work, my day job, but I'm always thinking, writing, you know, jotting down, you know, I'm always on the go, you know?

[00:25:58] And so whatever, I don't really don't have any downtime just because I'm always, you know, catching up on emails or, you know, Chispa, you know, writing ideas or, you know, Kevin from Mass Republic, you know? I mean, speaking of Chispa and Mass Republic, I feel we're going to dive into a deeper conversation here shortly after the break. But Primoz, remember, go check out the Kickstarter for El Peso Hero. Like I said, Kickstarter will search El Peso Hero and of course, add El Peso Hero.

[00:26:26] Kevin, before we go to break. It is, as I'm looking at it right now, it is over $1,000 of the $4,000 goal. So it's barely started off doing good. You have to go push. Push. Hey, there you go. Hey, Jonathan in the back seat. Till Cinco de Mayo. Till Cinco de Mayo. Look at that. Good timing, good timing. Perfect. Good timing, good timing. Party.

[00:26:56] I always want to try to, you know, push forward. That's when things kind of slow down a little bit in these lows. Almost everybody here has had a Kickstarter. They understand that. It's that's when it starts dragging and you start doubting like... That metal plateau, man. Where's my people? Is it going to go? Is it going to go? You're like, where are my people? Where are the family? Where are the Primos at? You know? So let's show Hector that Primoz are here. Let's not make it plateau. Let's not make it plateau. Let's just take it off. Mountain, mountain, mountain. Mountain. There you go, mountain. And Primoz, let's take a short break.

[00:27:26] See you soon.

[00:28:36] Everybody's favorite Chispa book is the 13 Coneja, which... I can't wait. Actually, now that I mention it, hasn't come out yet. No, seriously though. Chispa is a great venture that had, you know, Latino, Latina, Latine creators promoting Latine creations. And it got off a good start, but then there's been some quiet for a bit. People have been asking us what's happening with Chispa.

[00:29:02] And so right now, Chispa comics has a new partner. We've, we're working with Amp comics. You were with Scout. Now you're with Amp, Amp comics. And so right now, the way the industry is working, right? Diamond has gone through... That's a whole thing. ...going through their own thing, right? And so bankruptcy. And I think they're almost bought out, but they're not just fighting it or something. Yeah, the diamond is feeling rough. Yeah. Right. Exactly.

[00:29:31] And so they've been having their own delays. And so it's funny thing, those delays have always been there even through with us, you know, delaying some more books. And so right now the biggest partner is Lunar. But Lunar has closed its doors to new publishers. Oh, okay. So they're working.

[00:29:54] So right now we have partners with Amp comics working through our friends at Massive Publishing. They're working through their massive indies. They're working through their massive indies. Like the name of it is massive publishing? Massive, massive publishing comics. Yeah. Massive comics. Yeah. Right. And so they're the ones that put out mass for public books.

[00:30:17] And so they've currently, massive is currently working with different publishers to bring in some of their books through their massive indies line. And so it's a different, it's these partnerships in order for us to make sure that we have a opportunity to be at the comic book stores direct to market.

[00:30:40] And so we see this relationship going on maybe half a year, a year, depending with massive, I mean, we'll see. But with Amp, we're definitely in it for the long haul. We've cut our ties with Scout due to disagreements in scheduling. Right. And so this is also, I mean, we, we've had disagreements and.

[00:31:09] I mean, disagreements in scheduling is what they said about Century and the Thunderbolts movie. And we know it's all because of what Robert Kirkman did. So, I mean, this is code for like other stuff going on. Something happened. Yeah. You know, it, and not to say, you know, it was, we, we, we had, we met some great folks at. Yeah. Yeah. Comics and, you know, and they've, and there's always room for everyone to, you know, and so. A, there was some points of.

[00:31:38] Different perspectives on our, our scheduling the books. We wanted to make sure that we're consistent in our delivering our content. There is a, an issue with our books being bundled up. If you notice last year, it was during Texas Latino Comic Con, we launched like six books. And there was just, you know, it is. It, you don't want to do that. You know, you want to make sure that these books have room to breathe.

[00:32:03] You know, at least two a month, you know, and so. Uh, uh, and so right now, uh, we've, you know, and there's been a lot of. Back room. Uh, there was a lot of back room negotiations to, you know, hindering some of our launch launches for the fall of 2024.

[00:32:29] And we've made an announcement through, uh, Bleeding Cool and other venues that our new partner was AMP. And so with AMP comics, uh, we have Don Halffield. We have, uh, David Barnes. He comes from scout. Uh, and, uh, and Dr. Sterns, Sterns, um, scout too. And so we have a lot of alumni from other places too.

[00:32:59] So for someone like this, for example, I questioned because someone that may not be as familiar, right? You know, we do have listeners that are familiar kind of with this verbiage, the, the jargon, if you will, but someone that's not someone that wants to go, Hey, what happened to these books? What happened to cheese spot? Like where, where is the next chapter of the 13? Where is, you know, what happened? Like for someone to understand that business that I was just complicated. We understand distribution.

[00:33:27] We understand that, but the consumer, the consumer come in and going, Hey, like I was enjoying these books. Yeah. Well, keep in mind that in order for us to be in a direct market, our books need to be ready, need to be submitted to solicitations for diamond previews. Yeah. Five months before. Five months. I thought it was three. Yeah. Oh no. Five. That's right. I remember. Yeah. Yeah. It's so like right now for the Rosario, there's three, no, no, you're, I think it's a three.

[00:33:57] Well, no, no, it's cause I, cause I wrote some, no, cause I wrote some solicitations for, for Marvel back in the day. Yeah. Yeah. Three to five months. Right. Right. Right. And so, and like for right now, our, our book, the Rosario origins, which the movie comes out of May 2nd, which we're going to see a lot more, the movie, right. Mucho Mas. It's basically. Still working with that. Still working with cheese, but of course. Oh yeah.

[00:34:26] Mucho Mas is our parent company. They work. Yeah. That's the hand in hand. Yeah. Mucho Mas is on top and we're under. We're a division. We're holding them up is what it is. You're holding them up. You're, you're the one getting Mucho Mas out there and making it happen. But I guess for, to, to kind of move things where, where the answer of my, like, like, why is scheduling such a problem or the hurdle to get through, to get these books out with,

[00:34:56] with the support that you, you have through AMP now, how's that going to get you where you need to go? Well, it's, it's basically cutting the middleman too, because it, the problem has never been Cheespa comics, even though a lot of folks in the social media that we were scout, even though, yeah. And I got some hate mail too. And so I, you know, I ignore that, you know, just because they, you know, Scott were getting

[00:35:24] some bad, horrible publicity and, you know, controversial stuff. Yeah. I heard some artists that were not part of Cheespa that were complaining about working with it. Right. Yeah. And yeah, they have every right to do so. But at the same time they were throwing us under the bus. And so, and is the direct market works a little bit different than independent, just because there's so many gears in the machine, there's so many cogs in the machine.

[00:35:54] And so, especially when it comes to releasing a title, how many things they asked to go through. But with Amcomics, all they're doing is providing a venue for the direct market for Lunar. And so we're working through it. Lunar needed because they don't take new, new companies, for example. John couldn't walk in there and go, Hey, I have 50 fucking books. Let's make it happen. Sorry.

[00:36:23] No, but you will get, he can, I go up there. I mean, yeah, you get offers. Like I've gotten two offers to be bought out so that way they can like run Avena comics through a distribution company. So this happened with Blood Moon, where they bought Starbuck off me. And the moment Diamond closed, they shut down. So I was without the pay from Blood Moon printing my book, the work that I put into for the artists. They made me pay for varying artists.

[00:36:52] And then all of that went away with Diamond. So it's actually like, now it's a legal thing. So now we're working with like a lawyer to get all that funds back. Yeah. You'll hold the bag at the end. All of it. And now I have two other companies that have approached to make Avena comics sort of like a subsidiary. So my books would be released by either company A or B in the direct to shops. So they have their distribution company that they're working with. I would put out my book. They would take it. They would market it.

[00:37:22] They would push it out and then it would go to comic shops. But what I'm doing now is just going directly to comic shops. So I made flyers. We sent them out. We have like 10 different comic shops already in like California that we're working with. So I've just kind of bypassed that and went straight to my own market. And it's it's working, but it's a lot of work for a single person. Yeah. Wow. Okay. Makes sense. I asked that question because you think, you know, right. And even those listening may not know.

[00:37:49] And it'd be great to just kind of give them a little piece to understand why these partnerships are needed. It's not just falling on cheese by what what's he's doing. Why the fuck is cheese up on the back here? Like what's going on, man? You know, like you promised this and here we are six months later. And what's happened? Hey, everybody got paid. Let me tell you this. 100% right with that. And everyone got. Yeah. So it's yeah. And so that's that for our cheese book comics, cheese book comics. That's us.

[00:38:18] Okay. We'll hold you to that, man. Whatever the Huracanes book ever happens. You know, your boy right here has been waiting for that. I know. But when, but when can we expect Coneja? When can we expect that? I mean, I'm interested. How many of the 13 origins still are to come? Okay. So we have blue deer. We got malt. Malt, blue deer. I think I last time I count five. Five.

[00:38:47] And so we're, we're almost there. I know. And so for us, the, our scheduling begins knock on wood. Cause you know, it's the industry, you know, we have those study origins. July. So that's enough, even though originally it was going to be in April, but we made a comment, we had a meeting for, we're going to make sure that we have enough content backing from the movie marketing. The trailer's already out.

[00:39:13] And so a lot of that stuff would already be in place when the book comes out for the direct market. And so it was study origins. Then you have black demon. Mechanica. We're going back to black demon. In August. Uh, uh, back black demon. And then the following book, luminescence, but Veronique, that I know writing that one.

[00:39:39] And then by September, we're going back to Katrina's caravan. The last Latin X great story. And also with the black demon gods. So it's, uh, and then. So the scheduling is set up. We're not, not just waiting to see. Like we know, see the scheduling has been set up. We, I set up the schedule and sorry, I've set up for until next spring of 2026. The scheduling has never been a problem. It's the actual distribution that's been an issue.

[00:40:08] And it's like, right now we just have a backlog of great comic books from great artists and creators. And so it's not fair to say that this falls on cheese spot. It's not fair to say cheese spots just dragging their feet. I'll give you this a hundred percent. No, not, not, you know, there's been, I mean, obviously on our part, just, um, maybe we could do better communicating too, but our creators, you know, yeah. They've all gotten paid.

[00:40:38] And right now we just. Yeah, man. I mean, all due respect. Yes. People got to get paid. Like if you don't email me, but you fucking pay me, I'll be fine. Like, you know, like, I'll be okay. So yeah. Yeah. So I understand. What was that? Like an issue with our old friends. Um, you know what? Like it, it's the business, right? I don't really know, but at the same time, at least you acknowledge it, that the books were, are going to go out. Like you acknowledge the book is going out. Yes. What about, what about digital distribution?

[00:41:09] Any. Right. And so, you know, we have different venues, right? You have the direct market, direct to consumer. You have a digital, you have crowdfunding, right? And so we're exploring all venues currently. Wait, crowdfunding as a, as a, as a distribution tool? That's crowdfunding as a tool to, for SheSpa, yes. And that's an important venue too. And that you cannot ignore that. And I mean, even the big three crowdfund their books.

[00:41:37] I mean, what DC you have, uh, right now, uh, the DC Superman and Batman with, uh, almost Jorge. Oh, is that awesome artist? Sorry. Follow him. Cause he's a fan. Jimenez. Jimenez. Yes. You have this book crowdfunding and a Kickstarter doing. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's, you know, it's, it's a great way to connect with an audience. That's why El Paso Hero. I've been crowdfunding him. You know, it's just fan base.

[00:42:07] That's the way it's worked for me. You know, I do the independent shows. Um, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna have him, you know, one time I was, I was, I talked to image. I didn't like the deal, which I'm glad I did not. Um, and yeah, it's, it's, you, you get more out of being independent with your IP, your personal IP. I feel that's my, I mean, that's a conversation that John and Kevin had with TS, right?

[00:42:36] Last episode, you know, like being independent, getting your name known, like get yourself out there, work your books, right? John. I mean, what you, I mean, that's kind of what you're echoing, right? That's like we got, uh, so something that I've started doing more is like asking for pull quotes from other writers that I've gotten to become friends with. And now those books are trending higher in my sales already. So it, it helps. So like I got Kyle Higgins, Brian, as well, hopefully going to do one, what we're saying,

[00:43:03] but it's like getting people like that to put their names on my book will validate like, Oh, he's a good writer. So if it's between me and like four other guys in an artist alley, that's going to be the thing that separates and we'll get me the money over the next guy. So it's doing that. And then even help with my flyers, all those pull quotes are on the front of it. So when they went to the shops, that's why source callers started calling me back. Man, John, you're aggressive, bro. I could never imagine this guy's business acumen, man.

[00:43:33] It's just nonsense. That's good. But, but I mean, you have to be, have, you know, a person of different arts in order. I mean, independent comic book, it just involves so much. Indie comics involve so many spheres of industry. I mean, like for example, like with the, even with the show with our content, Elia, with your, what you do, you have so many, I don't want to say it wrong. What is it, Kevin? Like, pokers and fires and pies. You have so many pokers in people. Like, so many pokers in people.

[00:44:03] I do love putting my poker in people. What? Yeah. Okay. Okay. Well, I mean, talk on that, Elia. I mean, cause you have to, you have to diversify your, your, your, your, your time. Yeah. Oh yeah. I feel like I, I, I don't know peace, but I've also, I'm also very much like it, as long as I'm getting to like create or just put my work out there.

[00:44:28] Like the work is just another thing to do to, to put it out there and share it with the world, you know? Well, speaking of poking people with things, um, you mentioned master public earlier and I know master public has some children's books coming out soon. Um, by yeah. So writers that are by themselves. Um, yeah, no, I, I, I, I, I, some like crazy guy attacked you at a con and had you like, right? To give him a book deal.

[00:44:58] Well, yeah. And so I wrote a, a dragon Lee, a children's novel. There we go. Um, do we have a, a timescale yet of what people might be able to order or, or, or keep a lot of those? Yeah. Uh, I don't know if I get in trouble from. Get in trouble. It's okay. Dude, like nobody listens to this show, but like six people. That's true. I'm gonna dedicate six people. No, no, no. Uh, five of us are here right now. No, let's do it. What? April 25th.

[00:45:28] I'm looking at, I'm reading the press release. Hey, Kevin Garcia. Is this for release or this is for, um, ordering? Uh, for, I believe for ordering, uh, the future house publishing and that's upset for the launch. All right. All right. All right. Oh my God. April. April. You heard it here. Hey, we got it. April's the month. April's a month for a lot of things, right?

[00:45:57] Uh, somebody is launching a book as well this month. Um, John. Sure. I mean, he's launching something every other weekend. Yeah. You know, like, like, like seriously, like every other week, John's launching a new book, but Elia, your book, your book is launching as well. It is. It's happening. Yeah. It's happening.

[00:46:22] I don't, I don't, I don't have the physical, the physical copy, but there she blows. There she is. There's a taco launches this month. And as of this recording, we will be at C2E2. So John convinced the majority of us to go to Chicago. Well, somebody wasn't even asked if he would go with us. I said y'all should come. Yeah, y'all. Y'all should come. Oh my God. Y'all should fight.

[00:46:51] Y'all should fight. Hey, Texas Latino Comic Con. John Avina versus Kevin Garcia. There you go. I'll watch that. I will too. Like, uh. I'll watch it. We're going to have a special Texas Latino Comic Con because we're going to be celebrating 25 years of Baldo. Wow. Wow, Baldo. People can now see the cartoon finally, which is amazing. Yay. Baldo, 25 years. That'd be awesome. Hector Cantu. Hector Cantu. Definitely.

[00:47:22] I've been trying to get him on the show forever. And he won't come on my show. Hector. What? He listened to this. Come on the show, man. Hector. Hector. Listen, I wanted to explain why Baldo is still in high school. Like he hasn't. I mean, come on. How long can he be home back? Because Latinos don't age. That's true. Latinos, you know, they stay home. They don't go home to where? Look at me. I'm 135, so. Yeah. Hey, hey. Look at you, man. That beard's coming in nice and silvery. No, Hector, like, no, all kidding aside, I think it was just kind of like timing. It's always been timing with him.

[00:47:51] So I'm trying to narrow it down and get him on the show and talk about Baldo and talk about everything going on. We'll get him. We'll get him. We'll get him. We'll get him for sure. Yeah. But C2E2, not only, and John mentioned it here too, Ellie as well is going to be launching her book at C2E2. So it's a huge deal for Primos to go support. If you're in the area, I'm going to let John take over this one because this is his neighborhood. He runs Illinois over there. John, take over, man. What are we looking forward to in C2E2? A lot of cool writers are going to be there.

[00:48:22] I mean, C2E2 is just huge. So there's like panels. There's a lot of cool cosplay. I'm friends with a lot of cosplayers. I used to be a cosplay photographer for like everyone there. So just a lot of cool stuff to see everywhere. We have a new, just a self plug, I guess. La Llorona, number three is out. The Best is Yet to Come, number one is out. And then we did a spinoff of familiar dungeons called Legends from the Tavern. And that'll be out. So three books in a week. Okay. Pitch us on the best to come. Like, pitch us on that book, please.

[00:48:51] What is it about, Kevin? Is it better than other stuff? It is better than the stuff that is yet to come. Uh, it is a story about a couple whose like relationships falling apart. So they invest into like this AI robot thing to kind of repair their marriage. But they end up replacing their old, like, Jenny. It's a marital aid. It's a marital aid. Okay. Yeah. It really is.

[00:49:17] And they end up replacing their old, like, Jenny from the Jetsons type robot. Mm-hmm. And replace it with, uh, this new, like, design. The Cherry 2000. Yeah. And it all just goes the hell pretty quick. I am just constantly making decades old references that no one gets. I just know that. Yeah. But it's like a fun look at like old, that's why I'm wearing this shirt because I was doing promo videos, but like retro design stuff. Nice. Lots of like weird angles. I learned it's called Googie, by the way.

[00:49:47] I was wondering where you learned that from. Yeah. I learned that from this crazy guy. Kevin Garcia at Kevin Garcia underscore com. Yep. Yeah. But it's hard to show pictures from the book because I, it's gotta be, I'm pointed out. But it's fun. I see. Yeah. I was like, hey, you're all in the point right now. Look at this. Isn't this amazing? This is, oh my, oh my, oh my, oh my. What a skin you're showing there, Kevin Garcia. I shouldn't have shown that page. Shouldn't have shown that page. Oh darn. I have to go pray now. I just have to go pray. Okay.

[00:50:17] And then, uh, we re-released earlier dungeons with a cool little pull quote from, uh, Kyle

[00:50:46] it's so, it's so out there. Like you have to be looking for it. Like anybody at this in this before we move forward, because I, it's now it's in my brain. Sorry. What's the name, Kevin Garcia, since you're the guy or anybody else in here, because Kevin, I know Hector is kind of a movie buff too. There's a movie where a girl next door is getting like, just like abusive relationship with her dad, all this. And he ends up killing her.

[00:51:12] And then he, she befriends like the nerd next door and he ends up putting a computer chip in her brain and bringing her back to life. I swear to you, it's called like build a friend or something like that. Oh, actually I do. I've not watched that one, but I do know what you're talking about now when you say that name, cause it's something, it's not build a friend. It's something along those lines. Dang. So at my pretty most podcast, if you know this, come at me. Cause I want to know what it is. Sure. I can Google it, but what, what, where's the fun in that? Right.

[00:51:40] Right here because it's all about movies and fun and geek them and fandom. But speaking of, you know, we haven't caught up. It's been a minute, right? We usually kind of round out the show here with kind of what we've been consuming, what we've been into. Um, and of course I wanted to give everybody time to just know that we are going to be a C2E2. So I'll be there and they will be there. So what John, so definitely come check out, um, John, you know, your table as well, kind of some people are listening and kind of go find you. I can look it up right now.

[00:52:08] It's going to be small press with Kevin. Kevin's going to come down, but it's a small press table for, I'll be there in spirit. There we go. Yeah. We'll take a little, I'll take a little drawing of you. We need the Kevin standee. Remember? We need the Kevin standee. Like you know where we go. We need the standee. It's got a hole in it with a little plug so you can like fill it. Fill the hole. Oh my God. Instead of putting your face, you know, like those cut out, you put your hands inside

[00:52:37] them so it can go like this. Oh my gosh. You can go like this. They're putting their hand through your chest. Yes. Okay. John, what is your table going to be? Uh, small press table four. So we're right outside artist alley. I, I hate where we're at, but let's just hope that it's okay. Yeah. Small press. And small press. That's, that's one of my favorite spot to go to. Cause it's just guys like, Hey, you want to read my comic? And I'm just like, man, let them come to you.

[00:53:06] That's always my first stop. Like when I go to John Palooza, Houston or any other place, that's usually my very first stop is the small press stuff. Yeah. That's probably where I'm going to hang out when I'm not at the table. Just come by us. What's your table? And then you were able to find it out. Yeah. I'll be in the exhibitor area at booth two 78 with comic or press. Okay. You guys are going to have a big space. I think so. Yeah. I'm going to have a little table. It's going to be the princess. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I did. Queendom.

[00:53:36] The queendom of princesses. I like it. I like it. Well, those support area. I'll be out there too. I'll be running around with the fam. Uh, it'd be a lot of fun and kind of just get to hang out in that, that sphere up there. Wait, you can just like paint a beard on and just say you're me. That's true. Can I pull off a Kevin Garcia look? Yeah. We'll get you some reading glasses. That's every time you take a photo. Yeah. All right. Just do that. Cosplay. Cosplay. Cosplay. You should cosplay as Kevin. Ooh. Can I watch it with me?

[00:54:06] Do you think I can pull off a Kevin Garcia cosplay? She goes yes. We got to find you a Hawaiian shirt. To everyone. Everyone. Do you think I can pull off Kevin Garcia clothing? Please. With permission. Can you pull off his clothing? Mmm. Yeah. A magic dream. Just get some reading glasses, you're good. A magic dream. Do it. Oh, she said she can find something at the Goodwill. Hell yeah! Thanks for all my clothes. I'm going thrifting this weekend, yeah.

[00:54:33] I bought a shirt like this at Goodwill and the lady at the counter goes, wow, you're very brave. And I was like, oh, come on. Wow. So yeah, I don't know. We'll see. Maybe I'll end up being Kevin Garcia for an hour. I don't know. We'll see. Hell yeah. But. Let's just start off, right? Here at the end, we'll talk about what we're into, but check out or just really want to talk about. Hector, start with our guest. Hector, you know, what's something that you've been kind of like vibing on recently?

[00:55:02] Something you really want everybody to check it out if you haven't already? What's been consuming your time now? Oh my gosh. All right. So that's a Kickstarter. Yeah, right. I mean, yeah. Okay. So, you know, I have a backlog on everything, right? And I have the Lichus Dungeon on my watch list. Thank you, Liam. So it's there. So I got to get to it right now, obviously. I'm double. I'm reading absolute Batman. Sorry, absolute Superman picked up absolute flash.

[00:55:30] I'm really into the Energon universe currently image. You know, I need to finish my Transformers, G.I. Joe, Void Rivals. And then I'm listening to this really awesome heavy metal band called Ignea from Ukraine. Ignea. So check it out. It's a female lead singer. She has, she'll sing Ukrainian, she'll sing in English, but it's all, and some of the

[00:55:59] music is kind of symphonic metal too. So check it out. And yeah, I mean, it's, you know, just got to read currently reading. I have a secret project in Chispa. Oh my gosh. There's a secret project. I've been researching a lot for the past. Okay. Don't you can't tell us what it is, but can you tell us what you've been researching? Like what? Yeah. What's all of... Okay. Okay. Sure. History books.

[00:56:30] That narrows it down a lot. That's a history book. That's just somewhere in time. So you're reading the history of Western civilizations. It's going to be all about Europe. Awesome. Yeah. The feudal dynasty of Japan. Got it. Right. Right. Okay. Let's do that. But yeah, no, definitely. Thank you for that. Just definitely a, a, I'm all about music. I'll check them out. Yeah. Uh, Elia, um, what have you been consuming or obsessing with or want to recommend to the primos out there right now?

[00:56:59] I feel like it's not as much as it could be because I've been on a big project the past two weeks. It was due today. It's done. It got done. Um, but, uh, I've been on a big white Lotus kick as everyone has been following. We kept Wednesdays. Yeah. We kept Wednesdays. Y'all can catch it on the primos YouTube. You should review it. Um, wait, but wait, if you did it, where would you, where would you post that? I mean, I, it's on the my primos podcast YouTube channel. Yeah. There you go.

[00:57:27] But if you want the uncut uncensored raw. Patreon with wigs and everything. Yeah. Guys. Uh, but no, I've been watching white Lotus and I think that like everyone was like, this is such a slow season. Um, I think it's a great season writing wise. Uh, we have one episode to go, uh, as of today. Uh, and so I can't wait to see where that goes. Um, I started watching righteous gem. So as I'm not caught up yet.

[00:57:55] Um, I will say, Oh my God, the season opener for this final season deserves an Emmy. It deserves an, it was beautiful. I cried. I was like, this is a comedy show, but, uh, I'm not going to spoil anything about the opening, but it's definitely not, uh, to, to script as the rest of the season. It was a good, uh, setting setter. I don't know what I was trying to say, but it was really good. It's been a fun season so far. It's the final season.

[00:58:24] So I'm kind of sad. Um, Danny McBride's writing is just hilarious. Uh, but you can buy a tequila if you really want to just, you know, keep them, uh, you know, Yeah. And flush cause El Gato tequila. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but what I've been doing a lot is listening to music. Cause while I work, I listen to a lot of music. Um, I'm, I cannot talk enough about Selena Gomez's new album. I said, I love you first. Uh, I'm, I'm not even joking.

[00:58:52] It's probably, oh, I'm going to say something controversial. I liked it better than Lady Gaga's new album. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Dagger's been thrown. Yeah. Oh, like the other, you know, bye. No. Um, the thing about like Selena's album, it, it kind of like hits on like synth wave. It's like girly pop synth wave, which is like a sound that I like. Um, and I don't know. It's just really fun. I feel like it's her best work yet musically.

[00:59:21] So, um, I've had that on loop like all week. Uh, yeah. And also, um, she can sing Spanish. I blame the director of Amelia Perez for really just messing up Mexico. Yeah. Keep talking shit about Amelia Perez. Yeah. The movie is terrible. Amelia Perez is horrible. Horrible. Horrible. It's, it made every mistake that they taught me the first day of film school not to do. Yeah.

[00:59:50] I was like, Oh yeah, this is a director's commentary on like, Hey, you want to fuck up a movie? Let's do it. Yeah. Hey, there you go. You want to watch a fucked up, dumb, horrible movie? There you go. That should be on the quote. The box quote. Uh, uh, John, since we're with you here, what about you, man? What are we, um, on the talk to people about here to close out the show? The only thing I've watched or consumed is daredevil. Like literally my entire life right now, it's just getting things done and made.

[01:00:17] And I, I haven't slept in like a month. Yeah. Like easily since. I recommend sleeping when you can. Cause it's a nice activity. I'm a fan of it. I had coffee right before we started this and I'm ready to keep going. So. Oh, no. I have to. I just got an email a while ago. The next 72 hours. Well, hopefully. Yeah. So, but yeah, daredevil has been great. I have a feeling that I figured it out.

[01:00:46] I think Matt Murdock's daredevil. I don't want to spoil it for other people, but I'm pretty sure that that's what's up. Wow. You know, that better not be the case. I'm going to be really upset if you spoil this. Good job, John. Yeah. Look at you, Kevin Garcia. What about you, sir? You know, I've been, I'm, you know, I used to listen to the news, either NPR or TV news, like all day long, you know, I I've been limiting my intake. So on the, on the ride to work, I've now been listening to books on tape.

[01:01:18] I'm, I'm a, you may not know this, but I'm obsessed with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and pretty much everything, Douglas Adams. And when he passed away almost 25 years ago. And, and it's hard to get new books by him. Right. But then they've been releasing over the past several years, like old scripts that he wrote into new books. Uh, so I, you know, listening to Dr. Who and the Cricket Men, uh, audio book. And I was freaked out for something that it's going to mean nothing to any of you, but,

[01:01:47] uh, it's read by an actor named Dan Starkey. And he does the most spot on Tom Baker impression that I have ever heard. I thought that the whole book was narrated by somebody else. And then they would just bring in the actual doctor, the voice himself. I was like, wow, it was so spot on, but, but no, but, but they really good books. They, they, the authors who, who took Douglas Adams notes, they really captured his voice. Uh, you know, that was by James Goss. And I, and now I'm listening to one, uh, Dr.

[01:02:14] Who shot a, which I wish I listened to first. Cause I found out that the Cricket Men is a sequel to shot. And I should have realized that, but whatever point is I've been enjoying books on tape. I have a question or I don't know, comment on the Hitchhiker's Guide of the galaxy, right? Me and my son were reading something online about it, that every version of Hitchhiker's Guide that's out there is different from every other version, but it's done that way on purpose because of the continuity engine. Yeah.

[01:02:43] But that's the continuity engine. I've blogged about this before and I keep meaning to do some videos about it, but I haven't. Um, but, uh, Hitchhiker's Guide of the galaxy is to my knowledge, the only property that has ever existed in which it had a book version, a radio play version, a stage version, and a movie version and a TV show and a video game actually. And they were all written by the same person. Wow. So, because now the movie, he passed away during the making of it.

[01:03:12] So they had somebody else finish writing it and you can tell where it stopped him being him. Yeah. And the, the, the video game version, he was co-written by, um, the, uh, shoot, what's the, what's the Zork? Zork. It was co-written by one of the first video game, uh, writers. Uh, yeah, he helped.

[01:03:29] And so like, but beyond those two being co-written, he, it was the only property I've ever heard of where one person wrote every version and yet he wrote them all differently because you have different things that are going to appeal to different audiences based on. So for example, the first version was a radio version. And the reason one of the characters has two heads and three arms is just for an audio gag because up to that point, everybody had been talking to a normal. And when they start talking about his second head and third arm, the audience is like, wait, what?

[01:03:58] But that same joke doesn't work in a movie or TV show because you can see it immediately. Right? So they have, so he would change the jokes and the gags and the order based on the medium that it was in. Uh, so there's some bits that only show up in, in, uh, in one version, some bits that only show up in another version. And so whenever somebody is like, well, it's different from the book. And I'm like, yeah, on purpose. Yeah. Yeah. That's cool. That's kind of cool. You should make a video, Kevin Garcia at Kevin Garcia. I really should. Yeah. I should do it.

[01:04:26] I should do it for me because that's top international towel day, which is when Douglas Adams fans around the world, take their towels everywhere they go. There you go. Take a towel everywhere you go. I love that. I've been reading a lot. I was on a trip recently. I got to get my second volume of destroy all humans. They cannot be regenerated. Uh, it's a magic, the gathering, uh, manga. Yeah. And it is awesome. It's become like this obsession because it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a romance, a budding

[01:04:53] friendship to romance story that uses magic, the gathering in the nineties. And they're prepping for the end of the world because 1999, this was 1998. And so they're like, Hey, the year 2000, you think the world's really going to end. Yeah. And so that's why it's called destroy all humans. They can't be regenerated because of the, uh, you know, wrath of God for those that know. Uh, and it really plays well into that aesthetic of magic. If you played the game, everything from the color pie to the people running the pilot in

[01:05:23] the decks to atmosphere of a card shop, how the community there works. Um, it's a blast. It's such, such a great read. Uh, the second volume's out and you get an exclusive magic foil card inside of it. So if you're a collector, you get something out of it and a great story. Um, as far as music, I've been listening to a new band out of Monterrey. Okay. So, uh, Charles recommended it. We talked about it on the podcast, uh, in our Spanish version. Uh, I did start listening to the warning.

[01:05:53] He did a big old speech about how the warning is just this huge metal or rock band out of Mexico, but because they don't sing in Spanish exclusively, Mexico doesn't consider them Spanish rock because they don't sing in Spanish, but they're like the, like the biggest mech, like rock band out of Mexico are these three women. And they went viral when they were kids. They were, they played like Metallica, interesting man. Yeah. Metallica. And so like they were huge. I think I know the band you're talking about then.

[01:06:22] I remember when that went viral. Yeah. Yeah. They were everywhere. They're going to be here for a riot fest if you want to come with me. When is it? Uh, I'll find out. We got, my uncle knows the promoter guy. So we got tickets ready. So yeah. Shit. Look, give me some plane tickets. Uh, let's all go. Let's go. Let's all go. Let's all go. Riot fest. Okay. Hey, we might meet up again for sure. Fuck. Yeah. They're going to play. That's dope. Um, they're great, man. Really aggressive. Uh, I give it up to Charles. Charles knows his music.

[01:06:50] Um, I really recommend them if you want some, just some power. And I love female leads. I love female vocals. Uh, so check out the Ukrainian metal band. I think you'll like it. No, I put it down on my list here for Ignea. And then recently I watched, uh, two movies kind of, I watched one on the back of an airplane seat, which was a pretty interesting. And then I had to like watch it again. Cause I was like, I got to figure out what's going on. Uh, cause I have a friend that exclusively watches movies on the back of other people's seats.

[01:07:19] Like for some reason, like he's like, I wonder, I wonder what's happening. Cause there is something about that. Like when you're in your little bubble, but then you see what they're watching. What is going on over there? What are over there? Uh, Novocaine. With Jack Quaid. Actually really well done. I really, it's a, it reminds me of shoot them up. Remember shoot them up at the width. Yeah. I can't remember his name, but I know the movie. Children of men. Yeah. Children of men. Okay. I don't want to, I don't want to say. What's his name?

[01:07:49] No, it's not. I'm not. I know. Um, you're gonna make me look it up. Oh gosh. I'm gonna look it up. Yeah. It's, it's, it's the tip of the tongue of us. Clive Owen. Thank you. Yeah. Clive Owen. I'm gonna shoot him up. I saw you in the top. Crazy scenarios. Um, over the top, crazy stuff. Um, but it's a lot of fun. It's about a guy that has SIPA. That was principle where he cannot feel, uh, anything like a texture touch. Uh, so like literally it's like, he's, he's numb completely around his body.

[01:08:19] And he uses that as an ability to basically go hunt down guys as the kidnap his girlfriend and everything from broken bones to like, like really the tough to watch like injuries and stuff. It's a, it's a fun, it's a fun. I would say fun romp, bloody romp through some stuff. Uh, I'd recommend that. And then, um, Mickey 17. Ooh. I want to see that. Me too. James Patterson. Right? I know. I'm not a big fan of, of James Patterson. Is it John Patterson? James Patterson? Robert. Robert.

[01:08:48] Patterson or Pattinson? Pattinson. Pattinson. I don't know the guy, man. I only know cause I was in Twi-hard. Yeah. My wife watches the Twilight films and she enjoys them. He's there. He glows in the dark, right? That's kind of what he does. Glows in the sun. I think. Whoa, whoa. Calm down. He's the people in the sun. Calm down. Calm down. He was a Batman. Right? You know, we can't get a copy of, of Twilight from, from Edward's point of view.

[01:09:19] And just get him to read that one. Yeah. See, I knew so. One of us knew what it was. My, Emily's first name was to see Twilight. Yes. Yeah. But either way, Mickey 17, it looks amazing. I saw the, yes, audio book. That works. Uh, I saw the trailer for Mickey 17 and I thought, oh, who's this actor? He seems pretty good. I didn't recognize him. I didn't recognize him. Yeah. Dude, this cat has range. Like it shut me up. Like, I was like, what is happening? Like there were.

[01:09:47] The whole thing was just clones and the, the conversation between cloning and the ethics behind it, et cetera, which was great sci-fi, by the way. It's hard. I haven't seen a good sci-fi film that brings that conversation of ethics and morality into, you know, are we leaving morality aside for the benefit of this new civilization? Watch the moon. They're the colonizers. Look at John like you. Watch the moon. Is the colonizer really allowed? Are they're the invader as opposed to the colonizer? And then the people on the planet, are they the aliens? No, they're, that's their home.

[01:10:17] And humans are invading or colonizing, regardless if it's manifest destiny or survival. Those conversations are there. And it has everything that it's good. It's fucking good, man. It's a, it's, it makes you laugh. It makes you go, hmm. And it makes you like, oh shit. Are they really going to show that? Like, Ooh, like you kind of get like, whoa, like the, the erotic stuff there, but now they don't go over the top. We have the full Monty. The full Mickey.

[01:10:46] Uh, but I recommend it. It's fun. A really fun movie. Uh, I, me and my family saw it. We're like, wow, this is surprisingly good. Bad things happen to Cedric Diggory again. Oh. A lot of bad things happen. I think Mark Ruffalo's in it too, by the way. He plays a villain. He plays a heel. I love Mark Ruffalo. He can make a good villain. Pretty good. Yeah. It's funny. You watch, talk about watching movies in the back of somebody else's seat.

[01:11:11] The last movie I saw on an airplane was Gem and the Holograms, the movie, which I think people forgot existed. Uh, if they knew it all. Yeah, I remember. It was good. Like he was actually. It's not bad. Have you seen it? The movie? Yeah. Yeah. Cause it was like, it was one of those things like, who are they marketing it to? Cause like, it seemed like they, you know, well, it was a good movie, but like, it was like, part of it seemed like it was trying to be one of those, like a nostalgia remake with things.

[01:11:39] Part of it seemed like it was trying to be like a serious emotional story of like a daughter, you know, and then the father and stuff. And then part of it was like, well, maybe we can throw in a little bit of sci-fi in here. Um, and it was good, but what's really neat about it is that is it was directed by John Chu, who's the guy that did Wicked, you know? And it's like, why haven't more people seen this? Like it was actually worth watching. Yeah. And I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't a second airplane for hours. John Chu's movies. John Chu's movies. John Chu's movies. Or whatever, you know what I mean?

[01:12:09] I don't know. I have the vinyl. John Chu's. John Chu's. That's the original song. You have the She's All That soundtrack too? I do. I actually started like pulling a favor. It was like, I just need to be here because she's like my lifelong crush. Oh, man. Hopefully this year at the next, but we'll see. Yo. We can all dream. But you know what? Your dream can come true.
