[00:00:00] Que ondas Primos, Primas y Primas, Welcome to my, My Primos, My Primos, My Primo Podcast.
[00:00:08] My name is Freddy. My name is Kevin Garcia. My name is Elia Maria Matriz. This is Chukuma, whenever I can make it.
[00:00:14] My Primos Podcast discusses all things fandom and pop culture. From comics, movies, to whatever obsession we have this week.
[00:00:21] But with a Latine, Latine, Latine perspective. Remember, we're all Primos. We're all Primas. We're all Primos.
[00:00:28] No matter what part of the world we're from.
[00:00:32] Que ondas Primos, Primas, and Primas. And welcome to my Primo Podcast. I'm your Primo Freddy.
[00:00:37] And with me tonight is my Prima and yours, Ms. Spice Illustrations, Elia Maria Madrid. Say what's up, Elia.
[00:00:44] What's up, Elia? Elia, Elia, Elia. Elia, fresh off the...
[00:00:49] Tell me you're not feeling the energy and the vibe of...
[00:00:53] And we have a guest today. Of course, we'll introduce them here.
[00:00:56] But we are in the presence of a television star, everybody.
[00:01:00] Stop.
[00:01:02] Elia Maria Madrid was featured on a television show in Mexico for her upcoming comic book,
[00:01:12] Our upcoming comic book, Princesa Taco. How are you feeling about that, Elia?
[00:01:16] It was so wild.
[00:01:18] Because it was like, I was tuning in, like you gave me the link last night.
[00:01:21] And like, as I tuned in, it was like one segment.
[00:01:24] And then my... I just see Princesa Taco at the bottom.
[00:01:26] I'm like, oh my god, is this it?
[00:01:28] It was so surreal.
[00:01:30] Like, just seeing in another country, my book on the screen.
[00:01:35] And like, it...
[00:01:37] Yeah.
[00:01:38] It was really cool.
[00:01:41] But we do have a special guest and we'll gush over Elia a little bit here too.
[00:01:44] But I am going to gush over this guest.
[00:01:46] We are excited because we have an amazing piece of work that we're going to go over.
[00:01:51] This novella, if you will.
[00:01:53] I am just...
[00:01:54] I'm infatuated with it.
[00:01:57] We want to welcome, of course, Primo Eli Mendoza.
[00:02:01] Say what's up, Primo Eli.
[00:02:03] What's up, Primo Eli?
[00:02:05] Yay!
[00:02:07] You got it.
[00:02:08] You got it.
[00:02:10] Yeah.
[00:02:11] You got it.
[00:02:11] You got it.
[00:02:12] It's all we are.
[00:02:12] We're all Primos here having fun.
[00:02:14] But Primos, remember, you can follow us at MyPrimosPodcast and MyPrimosPodcast.com.
[00:02:19] And of course, let us know your thoughts.
[00:02:21] And big shout out to Javi and Nino and everybody at Mixamerican.
[00:02:27] We just got back from Mixamerican this past weekend.
[00:02:30] And I want to just thank them for all the work they do and all the staff there.
[00:02:33] It was awesome.
[00:02:34] Even with rain.
[00:02:35] Okay.
[00:02:36] It wasn't all...
[00:02:37] It didn't rain the whole time.
[00:02:39] It was a grand finale.
[00:02:41] It was a really grand finale.
[00:02:44] It was a grand finale.
[00:02:46] Eli, so we went to Austin this past weekend.
[00:02:49] And it's a convention.
[00:02:50] This is the seventh iteration of it.
[00:02:52] And it's a community event with the city and a lot of artists in town.
[00:02:56] And Elia's been going for a while as well.
[00:02:58] And we were able to dominate the convention, I would say.
[00:03:04] Pop Kiss Primos was a hit, by the way, which video coming soon.
[00:03:07] We had a game show.
[00:03:09] That was fun.
[00:03:10] And it was a lot of fun.
[00:03:12] We had a lot of great, very, great...
[00:03:14] I had like...
[00:03:15] You know what's cool?
[00:03:15] Javi, one of the organizers told me, he goes,
[00:03:17] you know you've done a good job when all the old heads show up.
[00:03:20] Like the older, older crowd.
[00:03:21] And they tell you, hey, that was good.
[00:03:25] I like that.
[00:03:26] Like that was really good.
[00:03:27] Okay, cool.
[00:03:29] It wasn't dull.
[00:03:31] It was fun.
[00:03:31] Everybody had a blast.
[00:03:32] And of course, Mix America on next year.
[00:03:33] We hope to be there again as well.
[00:03:36] But enough of that.
[00:03:38] Let's dive into Eli.
[00:03:40] I want you to kind of tell the primos out there who you are,
[00:03:45] what you do,
[00:03:46] and just kind of lead us into why we're having you on the show today.
[00:03:52] Okay.
[00:03:53] So, yeah, I'm Eli.
[00:03:57] I use he, they pronouns.
[00:03:58] I'm actually currently a student getting my master's degree in subculture studies,
[00:04:03] which is pretty cool that I get to do.
[00:04:06] And here I'm basically talking about my published work that I have,
[00:04:12] which is some cool like gay novel stuff.
[00:04:15] It's been out for a little bit already.
[00:04:19] But I'm really excited to talk about it with you all today.
[00:04:21] And I'm really glad that you all were like so enthusiastic about this.
[00:04:25] Oh, yeah.
[00:04:26] A hundred percent.
[00:04:27] The work,
[00:04:28] The Theory of Reality by Eli Mendoza.
[00:04:31] Theory of Reality.
[00:04:32] That is the work.
[00:04:34] Now,
[00:04:36] Elia,
[00:04:37] let's start with you here.
[00:04:39] Let's start with like a bird's eye,
[00:04:41] I guess,
[00:04:41] perspective or just our thoughts.
[00:04:43] How's that to kind of gush?
[00:04:44] Yeah.
[00:04:45] And, you know,
[00:04:45] and kind of let Eli know how we enjoy their work.
[00:04:49] Go ahead.
[00:04:50] Let's start.
[00:04:51] Cause I have thoughts too.
[00:04:52] Oh man.
[00:04:52] It was just really cool to pick up a story that was set in high school.
[00:04:58] That wasn't just your cookie cutter high school story.
[00:05:00] It actually,
[00:05:01] it embraced the reality.
[00:05:04] You know,
[00:05:04] the Theory of Reality.
[00:05:05] It brought reality into a new perspective and not just through the eyes of one character.
[00:05:11] You get the eyes of multiple characters that are going through really different intense stories in this world that we experience.
[00:05:20] And how important it is that certain chains of events and even like the small community that they make can set them on a path towards positivity outside of their own power.
[00:05:33] And it just,
[00:05:35] it was one of those stories where as I was reading,
[00:05:37] I was like clutching my chest at some points.
[00:05:40] Like,
[00:05:40] I hope that this character is okay because they don't deserve this and I hope it ends up okay.
[00:05:48] And in a way it's like they,
[00:05:51] they find their way and it's,
[00:05:53] it's not like,
[00:05:54] Oh,
[00:05:55] happily ever after.
[00:05:56] Yay.
[00:05:56] Yay.
[00:05:56] But it's,
[00:05:57] it's content.
[00:05:59] It's content.
[00:06:01] And that's,
[00:06:02] that's great.
[00:06:03] And I love that.
[00:06:04] Yeah.
[00:06:04] You're like,
[00:06:05] what is the,
[00:06:06] the pitch,
[00:06:07] if you will,
[00:06:07] for someone that wants to know,
[00:06:08] what is this book about?
[00:06:10] Maybe that would kind of lead a little bit into our thoughts and how it correlates with that.
[00:06:15] Okay.
[00:06:15] Yeah.
[00:06:16] So the little elevator pitch I like to give is theory of reality is a queer young adult novel about a transgender student in high school who struggles with mental illness,
[00:06:30] as well as perspective of another character who is cisgender,
[00:06:35] but is like new to school,
[00:06:36] new to the whole environment and is dealing with like a lot that's suddenly coming at him.
[00:06:42] And both of them sort of connect through this third character and they kind of work together to kind of combat some of the things that have been like really not making their lives a lot harder.
[00:06:54] And it kind of focuses on like ethnic and LGBTQ identity and like the effect of the environment on people's experiences.
[00:07:03] And of course,
[00:07:04] you know,
[00:07:05] mental illness and teenagers,
[00:07:06] because we all know that's a bit of a ride.
[00:07:08] Oh yeah.
[00:07:09] Yeah.
[00:07:10] So,
[00:07:11] you know,
[00:07:11] touching on that,
[00:07:12] you know,
[00:07:13] it really kind of hit it.
[00:07:15] I mentioned that off air,
[00:07:17] but really what it is,
[00:07:18] is the fact that I may not have experienced some of the,
[00:07:21] the,
[00:07:22] the situations that these characters were in,
[00:07:24] but everybody's gone through high school has gone through something that they can latch onto and feel seen.
[00:07:31] Everything from the fact of,
[00:07:32] Hey,
[00:07:33] I'm,
[00:07:33] am I the only Latino in this fucking like school?
[00:07:37] Yeah.
[00:07:38] Like,
[00:07:38] is that really a thing?
[00:07:39] Cause I,
[00:07:39] I got bust out when I was younger.
[00:07:41] I used,
[00:07:41] I grew up in the inner city in LA.
[00:07:43] I knew nothing but the inner city,
[00:07:45] nothing but Latinos,
[00:07:47] the black community,
[00:07:48] just,
[00:07:49] you know,
[00:07:50] just,
[00:07:50] that's my neighborhood.
[00:07:51] And my mother,
[00:07:52] cause I got into a lot of trouble cause I was a wannabe tagger and all this stuff.
[00:07:56] And I got kicked out of Les Mis,
[00:07:58] you know,
[00:07:58] that's a whole nother story.
[00:08:00] Yeah.
[00:08:01] Yeah.
[00:08:01] It's a lot of groping involved.
[00:08:03] But there was a,
[00:08:04] yeah,
[00:08:04] you should go back and listen to those episodes.
[00:08:06] If you haven't listened to it yet.
[00:08:09] The,
[00:08:10] my mom got into her head.
[00:08:12] She goes,
[00:08:12] I need to get my kid out of here.
[00:08:13] And so in LA,
[00:08:15] there was a time where they allowed you to apply for schools within the LA USD.
[00:08:21] LA USD was huge.
[00:08:23] LA is huge.
[00:08:23] It's a huge County,
[00:08:24] right?
[00:08:25] And I said,
[00:08:25] fine.
[00:08:26] You know what?
[00:08:27] She actually tried to get me into a writing program.
[00:08:29] Cause she,
[00:08:30] she knew I love to write.
[00:08:31] And my sister,
[00:08:32] older sister convinced her,
[00:08:33] Hey,
[00:08:33] Freddie likes to write,
[00:08:34] maybe get them to a writing program.
[00:08:36] I didn't get in.
[00:08:37] Apparently like my writing sample was,
[00:08:39] it wasn't up to snuff.
[00:08:41] And I'm like for a public school,
[00:08:43] you're turning literally,
[00:08:44] you're in East LA.
[00:08:45] It's not like you're fucking like,
[00:08:47] we're not in Ivy league here.
[00:08:49] Whatever.
[00:08:50] I was in ninth grade.
[00:08:51] In ninth grade,
[00:08:52] you're not fucking writing poetry.
[00:08:53] You're not writing an epic,
[00:08:55] right?
[00:08:55] You're,
[00:08:55] you're trying,
[00:08:56] you're trying.
[00:08:57] But anyways,
[00:08:58] so second choice was a marine biology magnet school.
[00:09:03] Randomly.
[00:09:03] Like,
[00:09:04] do you like the ocean?
[00:09:05] Sure.
[00:09:06] Like,
[00:09:06] okay,
[00:09:06] cool.
[00:09:07] And I applied and I got in and I walked into this school thinking,
[00:09:11] am I the only Latino kid?
[00:09:12] Right here.
[00:09:14] Eventually I found my own,
[00:09:15] right?
[00:09:16] Like kind of like some of the characters in the book,
[00:09:17] right?
[00:09:17] Cause we have there that they are not white.
[00:09:21] They are,
[00:09:21] they are like ethnically diverse,
[00:09:25] right?
[00:09:25] We have Trevor,
[00:09:26] Asian American.
[00:09:27] We have Emily.
[00:09:29] That's half Mexican.
[00:09:31] Yeah.
[00:09:32] Right.
[00:09:32] And then we have Cole,
[00:09:34] which,
[00:09:34] or Michael,
[00:09:35] it's Cole.
[00:09:36] That's Mexican.
[00:09:37] Right.
[00:09:37] And so then I love,
[00:09:39] and I'm kind of feeding into it.
[00:09:41] And why I mentioned it,
[00:09:42] bring it up that scene.
[00:09:43] And the fact that,
[00:09:44] yeah,
[00:09:45] it was,
[00:09:45] it correct me since I have the author here where they said,
[00:09:49] Oh,
[00:09:49] Hey,
[00:09:50] that kid looks Mexican.
[00:09:51] Maybe I can learn some cultura from them.
[00:09:55] Like there was like,
[00:09:56] Oh,
[00:09:56] I recognize that,
[00:09:57] you know?
[00:09:57] And I think that that's such a,
[00:09:59] a heartwarming,
[00:10:01] this like feeling or thought to the experience through them,
[00:10:05] because you don't really think about that.
[00:10:07] Me,
[00:10:07] the way I grew up,
[00:10:08] I was immersed.
[00:10:10] And so when I show up over there,
[00:10:12] I literally,
[00:10:13] it's not embarrassing.
[00:10:14] Back in the day,
[00:10:15] you print,
[00:10:15] remember the old printers that would go to the printers.
[00:10:20] I had printed one out that said like Latino something on it.
[00:10:24] I forget what it was like Latino heat or the rest of it.
[00:10:26] Only thing just to kind of say like my,
[00:10:27] my folder,
[00:10:28] you know,
[00:10:28] cause you carry the folder.
[00:10:29] Oh,
[00:10:30] just to announce Latino.
[00:10:32] Like the white folder with the clear,
[00:10:34] like film,
[00:10:35] you put pictures or whatever,
[00:10:36] like Aztec ladies dying or sad clowns,
[00:10:39] whatever that was.
[00:10:41] Mine was anime pictures,
[00:10:43] but it was just anime.
[00:10:45] Mine was like the low rider calendar,
[00:10:47] the Aztec guy.
[00:10:47] And then it was like,
[00:10:48] and it was like Latino heat,
[00:10:51] you know,
[00:10:51] I was like,
[00:10:51] Oh,
[00:10:51] so people can know I'm Latino.
[00:10:54] There's no,
[00:10:54] I'm like,
[00:10:55] yeah,
[00:10:55] yeah,
[00:10:56] you know?
[00:10:56] And then I learned,
[00:10:57] I went to fucking San Pedro and San Pedro might as well be like,
[00:11:00] there's so many fucking Latinos from everywhere.
[00:11:02] Yeah.
[00:11:03] I learned,
[00:11:04] I met like,
[00:11:04] I got really cool with like,
[00:11:06] uh,
[00:11:07] Tungan and Samoan and Filipino,
[00:11:10] uh,
[00:11:11] yeah,
[00:11:12] cruise and stuff.
[00:11:12] And I was like,
[00:11:12] okay,
[00:11:13] cool.
[00:11:13] We're fucking cousins at this point.
[00:11:15] Like this might be the same thing,
[00:11:16] you know,
[00:11:17] like you eat the same shit I eat,
[00:11:19] you know?
[00:11:19] And we just got along that way.
[00:11:21] And the community grew,
[00:11:22] but I really,
[00:11:23] I connected with that.
[00:11:25] And then I know we'll dive through it here in the story,
[00:11:27] but,
[00:11:27] um,
[00:11:29] Eli,
[00:11:29] did this,
[00:11:30] I'm assuming we write what we know.
[00:11:32] Yeah.
[00:11:33] Is that,
[00:11:34] is that kind of your experience?
[00:11:36] Is that kind of where that kind of vibe came from?
[00:11:40] Um,
[00:11:41] um,
[00:11:42] I grew up around,
[00:11:43] like,
[00:11:43] I grew up in a pretty diverse suburb.
[00:11:45] Um,
[00:11:47] but like,
[00:11:47] there still weren't like a ton of like,
[00:11:51] um,
[00:11:51] I wasn't around a lot of Latino people because like,
[00:11:54] um,
[00:11:54] the side of my family that was Latino wasn't really like involved.
[00:11:57] Um,
[00:11:59] so I didn't really like,
[00:12:01] all I really knew was stuff that like my mom told me,
[00:12:05] which,
[00:12:06] you know,
[00:12:06] wasn't necessarily stuff that we acted on.
[00:12:08] Um,
[00:12:08] for example,
[00:12:09] when I was 15,
[00:12:10] I was like offered a quince,
[00:12:12] you know,
[00:12:12] if I wanted it,
[00:12:13] um,
[00:12:13] I did it for,
[00:12:15] uh,
[00:12:16] quite a few reasons,
[00:12:17] namely that,
[00:12:17] you know,
[00:12:18] I was trans,
[00:12:18] but,
[00:12:20] um,
[00:12:20] you know,
[00:12:21] so it was like,
[00:12:21] I knew some Spanish stuff like that,
[00:12:23] but it wasn't until like,
[00:12:25] honestly,
[00:12:26] kind of college where I really got to like,
[00:12:30] be in with like a Latino community specifically.
[00:12:33] Um,
[00:12:34] I grew up around a lot of like,
[00:12:36] um,
[00:12:37] it was more of like a lot of Asian,
[00:12:38] Asian communities of just like all over,
[00:12:41] which was great because like,
[00:12:42] I love that.
[00:12:43] I love everyone there,
[00:12:44] but it was also just like,
[00:12:46] I think Cole's experience was something that I wrote about.
[00:12:51] But then once I entered college,
[00:12:52] I was like,
[00:12:54] Oh wait,
[00:12:54] I kind of feel like how Cole was supposed to feel.
[00:12:57] So that like,
[00:12:58] it did inform that a bit.
[00:12:59] I think,
[00:13:00] you know,
[00:13:00] when you were,
[00:13:01] when it's just like,
[00:13:02] Oh wait,
[00:13:03] there's like stuff to learn about.
[00:13:04] Like,
[00:13:05] that's cool.
[00:13:05] So.
[00:13:06] Yeah.
[00:13:06] Oh,
[00:13:07] no,
[00:13:07] you mentioned to me,
[00:13:08] you know,
[00:13:08] we always talk about,
[00:13:09] about inclusion,
[00:13:10] right?
[00:13:10] But you know,
[00:13:11] it's just hard because wherever you grow up is just kind of,
[00:13:15] it just depends on the situation.
[00:13:17] And I love the book because it's grounded in,
[00:13:20] again,
[00:13:20] in reality,
[00:13:22] it is a very true form to what it is because my son's 15 years old and he started high school this year.
[00:13:31] Right.
[00:13:31] And the,
[00:13:32] one of the biggest things that I,
[00:13:34] a parent worries about is their safety.
[00:13:37] And when you read some of the situations that are this intense bullying that happens and not giving too much away,
[00:13:44] but just there's heavy bullying here that is downright scary,
[00:13:49] you know?
[00:13:50] And as a parent,
[00:13:52] I sat there reading and I'm like,
[00:13:55] should I go hug my kid and be like,
[00:13:58] Hey,
[00:13:58] are you okay?
[00:13:59] Like,
[00:14:00] it's okay to tell me that you're,
[00:14:02] that something's up.
[00:14:02] Like I really,
[00:14:03] and thankfully we have a good relationship and he's very vocal.
[00:14:06] Uh,
[00:14:06] he feels safe with us.
[00:14:07] And,
[00:14:08] but I thought of my child and I thought of myself in those,
[00:14:12] those kids shoes.
[00:14:13] I say kids,
[00:14:14] I'm probably the oldest year.
[00:14:15] I'm from my forties,
[00:14:16] but I remember walking into situations that were dangerous,
[00:14:20] that were,
[00:14:21] I knew walking in that it was a dangerous situation.
[00:14:25] And we have someone like Emily going through some,
[00:14:28] she knew every single day waking up that it was a battle.
[00:14:33] And I,
[00:14:34] I,
[00:14:34] I told you earlier,
[00:14:35] like I may not have specifically gone through these challenges,
[00:14:39] but I felt seen and I felt something akin to them.
[00:14:42] So even though this book is written as a YA,
[00:14:44] at least it feels in that form.
[00:14:46] There's a lot here to unpack as an adult.
[00:14:49] I agree.
[00:14:51] No,
[00:14:52] absolutely.
[00:14:53] Like the,
[00:14:54] it's definitely like,
[00:14:56] it would,
[00:14:56] it would be good that teenagers,
[00:14:59] young adult readers definitely read this,
[00:15:01] but as an adult,
[00:15:02] like I don't have kids and I was like,
[00:15:04] I need to go hug my kid.
[00:15:05] I don't have a kid,
[00:15:06] but like,
[00:15:06] no,
[00:15:07] it's so true because like,
[00:15:09] even when I look back on my high school years,
[00:15:12] like I thankfully didn't get bullied or if I was,
[00:15:16] I just didn't realize I was,
[00:15:17] I was kind of like,
[00:15:19] okay.
[00:15:20] Yeah.
[00:15:22] But like,
[00:15:23] I do think about like the kids that were,
[00:15:25] and it's like,
[00:15:26] God,
[00:15:27] what,
[00:15:27] what were they going through?
[00:15:29] And then I think about the fact that there should be adults present.
[00:15:31] This is an educational world and they're not there to help them.
[00:15:35] And why,
[00:15:37] until it gets this bad.
[00:15:39] And it just made me think about everything that in the world and how to protect everyone.
[00:15:47] And it's like,
[00:15:48] how do you protect everyone from,
[00:15:51] from any of that experience?
[00:15:53] Cause you don't want anyone to go through anything.
[00:15:54] At least I hope no one wants anyone to go through anything bad.
[00:15:57] Um,
[00:15:58] but no,
[00:15:59] like that,
[00:15:59] like I like related to each character in a little bit.
[00:16:04] There were little bits that I was like,
[00:16:06] Oh,
[00:16:06] I was in theater.
[00:16:07] Oh,
[00:16:07] I was an anime club.
[00:16:08] Like,
[00:16:09] Oh my God.
[00:16:10] And,
[00:16:10] and it was just so refreshing to,
[00:16:14] to kind of like relate to a work like that versus like something that's very sugarcoated,
[00:16:21] the,
[00:16:21] theatricized,
[00:16:22] um,
[00:16:23] in an unrealistic high school setting.
[00:16:24] This is raw.
[00:16:26] This is real.
[00:16:27] And it's,
[00:16:28] it's something that I feel a lot of people,
[00:16:31] everyone should read and experience in the journey.
[00:16:35] Literally.
[00:16:36] We love your work.
[00:16:36] Okay.
[00:16:37] That's what we're saying.
[00:16:38] Like,
[00:16:38] no,
[00:16:39] we like it.
[00:16:39] You can,
[00:16:40] you can smile.
[00:16:41] You can say,
[00:16:41] yeah.
[00:16:42] Okay.
[00:16:43] There you go.
[00:16:46] no,
[00:16:46] it's okay.
[00:16:46] Yeah,
[00:16:47] no,
[00:16:47] I definitely,
[00:16:48] that was the,
[00:16:49] that was like,
[00:16:50] I liked that because like,
[00:16:51] that was part of the whole reason that I wrote it the way I did though.
[00:16:54] Cause like,
[00:16:54] it actually started out as like a little bit of like a personal vet work while I was in like middle school where I was just like,
[00:17:01] kind of,
[00:17:01] you know,
[00:17:02] it sounds stereotypical,
[00:17:03] but like taking out some of that teen angst or whatever.
[00:17:05] Yeah.
[00:17:06] But I worked on it like on and off,
[00:17:07] like all the way through high school.
[00:17:09] And it was around like,
[00:17:10] I think 10th or 11th grade where I was like,
[00:17:14] Oh wait,
[00:17:15] I'm like actually making a whole manuscript.
[00:17:17] And so I was just like,
[00:17:20] okay,
[00:17:20] I'll just keep working on that.
[00:17:21] And that's when it was like,
[00:17:23] it turned from something where I'm like,
[00:17:24] Oh,
[00:17:24] I'm secretly writing,
[00:17:25] writing this into like,
[00:17:26] I'm doing this intentionally with the goal of being published someday.
[00:17:29] Cause that was always like a dream I had.
[00:17:32] Like my,
[00:17:33] my mom will like always reference that when I was in like second and third grade,
[00:17:37] I would bring like this giant binder full of notebook paper to my classes.
[00:17:41] And during reading time,
[00:17:42] I would just write stuff instead.
[00:17:43] Oh,
[00:17:45] I'm sure I'm sure I still have that back at home somewhere.
[00:17:48] Honestly,
[00:17:48] I,
[00:17:48] I know where it is,
[00:17:50] but I,
[00:17:51] I don't know.
[00:17:52] I think every writer or every creative has that binder or box or something like,
[00:17:57] Oh,
[00:17:57] it's there.
[00:17:58] I can never get rid of it because I,
[00:18:00] one day I'm going to give to it or one day I just can't,
[00:18:03] I wrote that.
[00:18:03] Like I,
[00:18:04] I literally have to like,
[00:18:05] just in general.
[00:18:06] Yeah.
[00:18:07] No joke.
[00:18:08] I still have like my kindergarten through like third grade me journals of art.
[00:18:12] Yeah.
[00:18:13] Like if you don't,
[00:18:13] if you're not someone who burns your sketchbooks,
[00:18:15] like you keep them.
[00:18:16] Yeah.
[00:18:17] Absolutely.
[00:18:18] Yeah.
[00:18:18] You keep them.
[00:18:19] Yeah.
[00:18:19] A hundred percent.
[00:18:20] Yeah.
[00:18:21] My kiddo,
[00:18:21] he's very creative.
[00:18:22] He loves art.
[00:18:23] He's drawing,
[00:18:24] he's writing.
[00:18:25] And I can,
[00:18:25] I get so excited when I see that because I was not able to grow up in an environment.
[00:18:29] My mom tried.
[00:18:31] My father,
[00:18:33] very misogynistic,
[00:18:34] very like,
[00:18:35] I'm going to beat you up.
[00:18:37] Very homophobic.
[00:18:38] He was always about be the strongest guy there.
[00:18:42] Um,
[00:18:43] Oh,
[00:18:44] it's cute that you'd like to write,
[00:18:45] but I need you to go for some concrete,
[00:18:47] you know,
[00:18:48] like,
[00:18:48] um,
[00:18:50] and so whenever we can,
[00:18:52] we can talk at this play in this place,
[00:18:54] you know,
[00:18:54] in the safe,
[00:18:55] safe space here about being creative and enjoying that fact.
[00:18:59] And like that,
[00:18:59] I can have my son feel comfortable enough to go,
[00:19:02] Hey,
[00:19:03] maybe I want to just draw.
[00:19:05] And I go,
[00:19:05] okay,
[00:19:05] great.
[00:19:11] Whatever you want to do.
[00:19:12] Like we'll make,
[00:19:13] we'll do the cruise ship tour.
[00:19:15] We'll figure it out.
[00:19:16] I love that.
[00:19:17] It's great to be in a position like that.
[00:19:19] Yeah.
[00:19:20] Exactly.
[00:19:21] I feel like we were,
[00:19:23] with works like yours,
[00:19:24] and I'm sure there's others that we just,
[00:19:26] I haven't been able to consume or come across.
[00:19:28] Right.
[00:19:29] That the touch on these,
[00:19:29] these,
[00:19:30] these tones.
[00:19:31] But the reason I look at it,
[00:19:33] we mentioned it a little bit ago,
[00:19:34] was that it's not the typical things that you see in the market.
[00:19:36] It's not the,
[00:19:38] what is it?
[00:19:39] we'll use an example,
[00:19:40] like Twilight,
[00:19:41] right?
[00:19:41] That whole like vampires and the,
[00:19:42] the cool high school with everybody,
[00:19:44] you know,
[00:19:45] or like save by the bell as I grew up with,
[00:19:47] you know,
[00:19:48] or like,
[00:19:49] uh,
[00:19:49] confessions of a wallflower,
[00:19:51] we know,
[00:19:51] yeah,
[00:19:51] we're not all rich kids and running around.
[00:19:53] All that stuff.
[00:19:54] But it's,
[00:19:55] it's,
[00:19:55] it's,
[00:19:56] it's real.
[00:19:57] And the fact that they get up,
[00:19:58] they go to school,
[00:20:01] dysfunctional families,
[00:20:01] if you will,
[00:20:02] by the way,
[00:20:03] I'm going to say it out loud.
[00:20:04] I'm sorry.
[00:20:04] I'm going to spoil one thing.
[00:20:05] I'm like,
[00:20:06] Oh my God.
[00:20:08] Okay.
[00:20:10] The last,
[00:20:10] the last instance,
[00:20:12] I'm not going to spoil what it is,
[00:20:14] but it set me off.
[00:20:16] Yeah.
[00:20:16] I was like,
[00:20:17] I had to reassure my mom when this was published.
[00:20:20] I had to be like,
[00:20:21] this character is not based on you.
[00:20:25] Yeah.
[00:20:25] When my grandparents read it,
[00:20:27] they were like,
[00:20:28] I didn't know until later,
[00:20:29] but they were like,
[00:20:30] Hey,
[00:20:31] so Eli wrote this.
[00:20:32] Is this you?
[00:20:33] And my mom was,
[00:20:33] my mom was able to be like,
[00:20:35] no,
[00:20:35] Eli told me this is not based on me.
[00:20:38] Oh man.
[00:20:39] I had to do some damage control there.
[00:20:41] Can we,
[00:20:42] I was like,
[00:20:43] no.
[00:20:43] Jumping,
[00:20:44] jumping off of that.
[00:20:46] Right.
[00:20:46] Cause we've having fun and we're enjoying it.
[00:20:48] Right.
[00:20:48] But let's,
[00:20:49] some of the tones are serious or dark.
[00:20:51] Um,
[00:20:52] I learned from my sister,
[00:20:54] you know,
[00:20:54] my sister went through when she came out,
[00:20:55] it was a tough situation for my father to accept and still to an extent.
[00:21:00] Right.
[00:21:01] But the fact that,
[00:21:05] how can I phrase this?
[00:21:06] Because when I read this,
[00:21:07] when I read the work,
[00:21:07] it touched on her there.
[00:21:09] Cause I remember my sister being to a point where she was afraid to even be in the home.
[00:21:14] She was afraid of a reaction,
[00:21:17] you know,
[00:21:17] be it verbally,
[00:21:19] physically,
[00:21:19] or mentally abusive in a sense.
[00:21:21] Thankfully it never got to that stage,
[00:21:23] you know,
[00:21:24] but I had friends and things that felt that they had to leave home,
[00:21:28] you know,
[00:21:29] and,
[00:21:29] and they had to escape because it wasn't the right environment for them.
[00:21:32] And so we have Emily that's dealing with her environment and the mother that we talk about here.
[00:21:38] I mean,
[00:21:39] what can we,
[00:21:40] well,
[00:21:40] what can you,
[00:21:40] Eli,
[00:21:41] I mean,
[00:21:41] and Ellie,
[00:21:42] of course,
[00:21:42] your thoughts as well.
[00:21:43] Um,
[00:21:44] take away from that,
[00:21:45] you know,
[00:21:45] as far as how that is ignored,
[00:21:48] because you,
[00:21:48] you don't,
[00:21:49] you,
[00:21:50] you don't think about that being your reason why someone ends up on the street.
[00:21:54] Yeah.
[00:21:54] There are like,
[00:21:56] it,
[00:21:56] it is,
[00:21:57] it is a little bit of research I did going into is like a large amount of homeless youth,
[00:22:02] like a disproportionately high amount of homeless youth are LGBTQ.
[00:22:06] And it's not always cause it's like,
[00:22:08] oh,
[00:22:08] I ran away,
[00:22:09] even though that can be part of it.
[00:22:10] A lot of times it's like,
[00:22:12] you know,
[00:22:12] I'm sure you all know this,
[00:22:13] but it's like,
[00:22:14] people will just like kick kids out of their house.
[00:22:17] And,
[00:22:18] you know,
[00:22:18] and that can happen for like,
[00:22:21] unfortunately more reasons than that.
[00:22:23] Um,
[00:22:23] but that was kind of something I wanted to like touch on because that's also how,
[00:22:28] like,
[00:22:28] at least historically,
[00:22:29] that's how we've ended up with like drag houses and stuff like that.
[00:22:32] Like,
[00:22:32] I love that culture comes from people having to like find their own communities because they don't have anything else.
[00:22:38] But then you have,
[00:22:39] you know,
[00:22:40] oh,
[00:22:40] they're just like in a suburb,
[00:22:42] you know,
[00:22:43] like,
[00:22:44] you're not,
[00:22:44] it's like,
[00:22:45] you don't even really have that.
[00:22:46] Like,
[00:22:46] what are you going to do?
[00:22:47] Um,
[00:22:48] and especially when,
[00:22:50] you know,
[00:22:50] by the time you reach high school,
[00:22:52] if you've been like through the system before,
[00:22:56] or you know,
[00:22:57] people who have like,
[00:22:58] there's,
[00:22:59] there's either like this kind of resignation to it or like a big distrust of it.
[00:23:02] And I mean,
[00:23:03] you both see that in the work as well from different perspectives and it's,
[00:23:09] you know,
[00:23:09] and even,
[00:23:10] you know,
[00:23:10] just as a teenager,
[00:23:12] there tends to be kind of that questioning of authority just in general,
[00:23:15] even if it's not necessarily based on prior experiences.
[00:23:18] And so it's like,
[00:23:20] I wanted to like,
[00:23:22] remember that feeling of like being in middle school and high school and that feeling of like,
[00:23:28] you know,
[00:23:29] that it was like trapping or there wasn't a way out because,
[00:23:32] I feel like as an adult,
[00:23:35] we tend to kind of forget that a bit.
[00:23:37] Um,
[00:23:38] cause I know a lot of people will be like,
[00:23:40] oh,
[00:23:40] well,
[00:23:40] you know,
[00:23:40] back then I was like,
[00:23:42] you know,
[00:23:42] younger or whatever.
[00:23:44] Um,
[00:23:45] but so I felt that was like really important to capture how like,
[00:23:50] you know,
[00:23:51] it's not like,
[00:23:52] oh,
[00:23:52] there was something you missed that you could have done.
[00:23:54] It's like,
[00:23:54] for some people,
[00:23:55] like,
[00:23:55] it's just not there.
[00:23:56] Yeah.
[00:23:57] And I,
[00:23:57] that was kind of a big thing for me to try to emphasize,
[00:24:02] you know,
[00:24:02] that it's like,
[00:24:04] there's,
[00:24:05] for some people,
[00:24:06] it's like,
[00:24:06] that is kind of what they got to do.
[00:24:08] Um,
[00:24:09] whether or not you,
[00:24:10] we agree with it or not.
[00:24:11] It's like,
[00:24:11] that's what you're going through,
[00:24:13] you know?
[00:24:14] Yeah.
[00:24:16] I think it's,
[00:24:17] oh,
[00:24:17] no.
[00:24:18] Yeah.
[00:24:18] No,
[00:24:18] I was just gonna say like,
[00:24:19] especially if you're like 15 or 16,
[00:24:21] um,
[00:24:22] you know,
[00:24:23] and if you're even younger,
[00:24:24] you're definitely not,
[00:24:26] if your situation's bad enough,
[00:24:28] there's a point where you're no longer like,
[00:24:30] oh,
[00:24:30] if I just wait three years,
[00:24:32] then like,
[00:24:32] I'll be out or whatever.
[00:24:33] Like three years is forever.
[00:24:34] You know?
[00:24:35] I mean,
[00:24:36] I've known kids who have gotten like emancipated and stuff like that,
[00:24:38] but that can be like a very difficult legal process.
[00:24:40] And it's still difficult afterward because when you're emancipated,
[00:24:44] like all the legal responsibility is on you.
[00:24:46] So you still end up at risk and things like that.
[00:24:49] So,
[00:24:49] you know,
[00:24:51] that,
[00:24:51] that was kind of a big thing that I tried to have people take from it.
[00:24:54] Yeah.
[00:24:54] I liked how in this instance,
[00:24:58] community helped them a lot,
[00:25:01] even,
[00:25:02] even with like Emily's in their experience,
[00:25:05] just having that one interaction,
[00:25:07] that one day that built up to trust,
[00:25:10] that helped them get out of a situation and helped another one get out of a
[00:25:14] situation together.
[00:25:16] It's,
[00:25:16] it's literally the start of found family and that community.
[00:25:21] And it just shows.
[00:25:22] It can make that huge difference.
[00:25:24] Like the community doesn't have a ton of people.
[00:25:26] Yeah,
[00:25:26] you know,
[00:25:27] exactly.
[00:25:27] And that's the power of it,
[00:25:29] that community in itself should be taken positively like that.
[00:25:34] Like you find the one person that you can relate to in a positive way and y'all
[00:25:40] can help each other.
[00:25:41] That's the part of community.
[00:25:43] It's not about bringing each other down.
[00:25:44] It's building each other up.
[00:25:45] And they did,
[00:25:45] they built each other up,
[00:25:46] made each other realize they're worth more than what they think.
[00:25:50] And they were able to,
[00:25:52] to make better.
[00:25:54] It was so rough,
[00:25:55] but they were able to get there.
[00:25:57] They finally got to the point where it was like,
[00:25:59] I'm worth better than this.
[00:26:01] And yeah.
[00:26:03] And it just,
[00:26:03] it's so powerful.
[00:26:04] I love that coming together of like community help them.
[00:26:08] And it's literally,
[00:26:09] you're not alone.
[00:26:11] Literally.
[00:26:12] Yeah.
[00:26:12] Yeah.
[00:26:13] Or like,
[00:26:13] even if it does feel like it,
[00:26:14] it's like,
[00:26:15] there's,
[00:26:15] you know,
[00:26:16] like even just one person,
[00:26:18] it's like,
[00:26:18] it can make a difference in it.
[00:26:19] Yeah.
[00:26:19] It really can.
[00:26:20] Yeah.
[00:26:21] Yeah.
[00:26:21] I mean,
[00:26:21] let's talk about the one that,
[00:26:23] no,
[00:26:24] not just Cole,
[00:26:24] but I was going to say Trevor,
[00:26:26] like,
[00:26:26] let's just announce,
[00:26:27] I mean,
[00:26:27] Trevor is the driving,
[00:26:30] like he's the hero.
[00:26:32] He,
[00:26:32] he,
[00:26:33] you know,
[00:26:34] he's the hero.
[00:26:35] He's,
[00:26:36] he's the cool punk rock kid,
[00:26:38] you know,
[00:26:38] that just kind of like walks amongst the tribes and does as he,
[00:26:42] as he feels is right.
[00:26:44] And has that conviction.
[00:26:46] And to,
[00:26:46] to help Cole and to help Emily.
[00:26:49] And again,
[00:26:49] we're talking about the theory of reality part one,
[00:26:53] which touch on that here by Eli Mendoza.
[00:26:57] Amazing,
[00:26:58] amazing book.
[00:26:59] But Trevor,
[00:27:00] like Trevor,
[00:27:01] where did that character come from?
[00:27:02] What was the thought behind Trevor being,
[00:27:07] being created?
[00:27:08] Is that just how you see,
[00:27:10] I have a theory.
[00:27:11] If you stop me,
[00:27:12] I'm wrong.
[00:27:14] I feel that,
[00:27:15] that Trevor is a version of you.
[00:27:19] After the fact.
[00:27:21] That's come back somehow to kind of usher them through this.
[00:27:24] Am I wrong?
[00:27:25] Am I just,
[00:27:26] what is it projecting?
[00:27:29] I think it's like who I wanted to be.
[00:27:33] Cause you know,
[00:27:34] when I was writing Trevor,
[00:27:35] like I was still in high school,
[00:27:36] I was still figuring it out,
[00:27:37] but I had also like just gotten into punk rock and stuff like that.
[00:27:42] And so I was kind of like first starting to get really interested in like
[00:27:47] the attitude and like subcultures and things like that,
[00:27:50] which now that I'm researching subcultures as a master's student,
[00:27:52] that went very well.
[00:27:53] But yeah,
[00:27:54] I mean,
[00:27:55] you're going to,
[00:27:55] me and you're going to be friends.
[00:27:56] Cause I'm all about it.
[00:27:57] I'm all about subculture.
[00:27:59] Yeah.
[00:27:59] No,
[00:27:59] you were,
[00:27:59] you're talking about the lowriders and stuff and I'm like,
[00:28:01] okay,
[00:28:01] you were getting the cholos,
[00:28:02] but yeah.
[00:28:05] But no,
[00:28:06] Trevor,
[00:28:06] I think came more from like what a combination of what,
[00:28:11] like I would have wanted and like kind of what I would want to be for
[00:28:17] someone else.
[00:28:18] Um,
[00:28:19] but also kind of having like,
[00:28:21] you know,
[00:28:22] that like kind of cool punk character.
[00:28:25] Cause I,
[00:28:25] I just liked that.
[00:28:26] Um,
[00:28:27] but try not to make it too much of like a stereotype.
[00:28:30] If that makes sense.
[00:28:31] That's like,
[00:28:32] I mean,
[00:28:32] you all have,
[00:28:34] you know,
[00:28:35] talked about the characters.
[00:28:36] I,
[00:28:37] my writing focuses a lot on like stream of consciousness and characters.
[00:28:42] Like I can't not try to get into the mindset of my characters every time I'm
[00:28:46] writing.
[00:28:46] So that's like,
[00:28:48] I think that makes it a bit easier.
[00:28:50] Cause I'm not trying to make up people that I feel like are fake.
[00:28:55] And I feel like that's also why,
[00:28:57] you know,
[00:28:57] some of you mentioned like,
[00:28:59] Oh,
[00:28:59] I could relate to like little bits of it.
[00:29:01] And it's like,
[00:29:01] I feel like I put like different parts of myself into all of the characters.
[00:29:05] And so I'm like,
[00:29:07] I'm glad that other people are kind of resonating with that.
[00:29:10] Oh yeah.
[00:29:10] That actually,
[00:29:12] now that I think about it,
[00:29:13] that is one thing I really love about your book.
[00:29:16] It didn't,
[00:29:16] it stays strict to stereotypes.
[00:29:18] Whereas a lot of high school works,
[00:29:20] they rely on stereotypes,
[00:29:22] but like these kids were just figuring it out.
[00:29:25] They,
[00:29:25] they were like,
[00:29:26] I mean,
[00:29:27] yeah,
[00:29:27] this is fun.
[00:29:28] Okay.
[00:29:28] Let's try this.
[00:29:29] Okay.
[00:29:29] Let's try that.
[00:29:30] But that's not their personality.
[00:29:31] Cause that's literally what I like.
[00:29:33] Yeah.
[00:29:33] It's like,
[00:29:34] yeah,
[00:29:34] we're going to like dress goth,
[00:29:36] but like,
[00:29:37] that's not my personality.
[00:29:37] I'm still a human.
[00:29:38] I still enjoy things.
[00:29:39] I still do this.
[00:29:40] Yeah.
[00:29:41] And also Trevor's not like an elitist about punk either.
[00:29:43] He's like,
[00:29:44] yeah,
[00:29:44] I listened to like metal,
[00:29:45] like golf music.
[00:29:46] Like who cares?
[00:29:47] Like,
[00:29:47] I feel like Trevor would just like unapologetically listen,
[00:29:51] listen to Britney Spears and be bad at anyone.
[00:29:53] You would like,
[00:29:54] yeah.
[00:29:54] Yeah.
[00:29:55] You know?
[00:29:55] Yeah.
[00:29:56] I mean,
[00:29:57] I love toxic as much as anybody else.
[00:29:58] Right.
[00:29:59] Cause I mean,
[00:29:59] it's like the best one.
[00:30:01] Sorry.
[00:30:01] It is.
[00:30:03] Can we talk about part two,
[00:30:05] Anna and Reina's ballad?
[00:30:06] That's,
[00:30:07] I think that should be the next,
[00:30:08] the next book you write.
[00:30:09] Okay.
[00:30:10] Okay.
[00:30:10] Okay.
[00:30:13] So they were my heroes calling out at the auditions because that's how I felt in theater.
[00:30:21] Yeah.
[00:30:21] I had a lot of friends that went through that.
[00:30:24] And I mean,
[00:30:24] I also like kind of went through that once,
[00:30:27] which was a little weird.
[00:30:28] Cause I'm like light skinned.
[00:30:30] Yeah.
[00:30:31] Yeah.
[00:30:32] So no,
[00:30:33] that's something like,
[00:30:34] yeah,
[00:30:34] exactly.
[00:30:35] I,
[00:30:36] that was also something that I just saw more of once I got into college,
[00:30:40] unfortunately,
[00:30:41] with some of my like,
[00:30:42] you know,
[00:30:43] with the very few like non-white people in the theater department or like with some of the Jewish people in the theater department,
[00:30:48] it's like the typecasting or just like weird,
[00:30:52] like suggestions to make something look more cultural,
[00:30:55] which were questionable.
[00:30:58] And so when I went to college,
[00:31:00] I was like,
[00:31:01] well,
[00:31:01] that it was like,
[00:31:03] unfortunately what I wrote just got solidified as like.
[00:31:07] Yeah.
[00:31:07] I just want,
[00:31:08] I just want an offshoot of Anna and Reina,
[00:31:10] like being Avengers.
[00:31:12] You know what I mean?
[00:31:13] Like just say,
[00:31:13] no,
[00:31:14] no,
[00:31:15] like,
[00:31:15] no,
[00:31:16] this is wrong.
[00:31:17] This is all wrong.
[00:31:18] You're done.
[00:31:19] Yeah.
[00:31:20] You're done.
[00:31:20] Yeah.
[00:31:20] Yeah.
[00:31:21] Yeah.
[00:31:22] I mean,
[00:31:22] there is like a part two in the works,
[00:31:25] but it's not Anna and Reina's ballad,
[00:31:27] but they are still in there.
[00:31:29] You know,
[00:31:30] we didn't,
[00:31:31] we didn't get rid of anyone.
[00:31:33] Okay.
[00:31:34] Okay.
[00:31:34] Good.
[00:31:34] Cause I think they,
[00:31:35] they're fun.
[00:31:37] They were something I look forward to whenever they were involved.
[00:31:39] So I definitely dig it.
[00:31:41] So you're like,
[00:31:41] where can the primos find you,
[00:31:44] find your work?
[00:31:45] How can we support and make sure more people can read this amazing book?
[00:31:49] All right.
[00:31:50] So first off for anyone who just wants to like follow on socials,
[00:31:54] keep track of everything.
[00:31:55] Um,
[00:31:56] I have an Instagram and a Tik TOK.
[00:31:58] Um,
[00:31:59] both are,
[00:32:00] uh,
[00:32:01] e dot L dot I dot underscore Mendoza underscore author.
[00:32:07] Um,
[00:32:07] so there's like some,
[00:32:08] we'll have links guys.
[00:32:09] So we'll have links.
[00:32:10] Yeah.
[00:32:10] Yeah.
[00:32:11] But you can also just,
[00:32:12] um,
[00:32:13] look me up as well.
[00:32:13] It should pop up.
[00:32:15] Um,
[00:32:15] and then for the book,
[00:32:17] you can get it on Amazon,
[00:32:18] of course,
[00:32:19] but,
[00:32:19] um,
[00:32:19] if you don't want to do that for whatever reason,
[00:32:21] um,
[00:32:22] it's also available at Barnes and Noble on Kobo.
[00:32:25] It's available on bookshop.org.
[00:32:27] Um,
[00:32:30] and also if you want it at your local library,
[00:32:33] you can also always request it,
[00:32:34] which would be really cool because live.
[00:32:36] We know libraries can get it.
[00:32:40] Um,
[00:32:40] and if you want it,
[00:32:41] I'm shouting you out right now,
[00:32:43] make it happen,
[00:32:44] man.
[00:32:44] And just so we all know.
[00:32:46] Yeah.
[00:32:47] Then this is for everybody out there.
[00:32:49] Go recommend these books to libraries.
[00:32:52] That's how they get them in their library.
[00:32:54] So please,
[00:32:55] please,
[00:32:55] please.
[00:32:55] That's the best way to spread the word and also make sure that these books are
[00:32:58] accessible to anyone who maybe can't like afford them and relies on
[00:33:02] libraries for books,
[00:33:03] which is a great way.
[00:33:04] Everyone should.
[00:33:04] Libraries.
[00:33:05] I'm a big library.
[00:33:06] Take it home.
[00:33:07] Yeah.
[00:33:08] You know,
[00:33:08] for some reasons.
[00:33:10] Libraries are not just to rent DVDs guys.
[00:33:12] Okay.
[00:33:12] There's books there too.
[00:33:14] Remember.
[00:33:14] They have so many fun resources and community events.
[00:33:16] I think you probably just let people know that you can rent DVDs at
[00:33:20] libraries.
[00:33:20] I think is what you just did.
[00:33:23] I think you just let people know.
[00:33:25] This plastic disc that we used to listen to music on.
[00:33:29] Right.
[00:33:29] And watch movies.
[00:33:32] Now,
[00:33:32] but I love the library.
[00:33:33] I used to volunteer at the library during high school was forcing me to do
[00:33:37] volunteer hours somewhere.
[00:33:39] Yeah.
[00:33:39] And the local library was my place.
[00:33:41] I hung out.
[00:33:41] That's the best place.
[00:33:43] My library system where I grew up was like excellent.
[00:33:46] So I loved to go there.
[00:33:48] I used to go play Yu-Gi-Oh!
[00:33:50] And then I'd go hang out at the library and do my thing,
[00:33:53] you know?
[00:33:54] But Primos,
[00:33:55] of course,
[00:33:56] we want you to follow Eli.
[00:33:57] Get his book.
[00:33:58] This book is awesome.
[00:34:00] Oh yeah.
[00:34:01] Etsy.
[00:34:01] Oh,
[00:34:02] Etsy.
[00:34:03] What's your Etsy?
[00:34:04] Yeah.
[00:34:05] It's Luxolotl DIY spelled like Lux.
[00:34:09] And then like the second half of the,
[00:34:11] of like Oxolotl because those are my favorite animal.
[00:34:14] And you can kind of see the stuffies in the background.
[00:34:17] Yeah,
[00:34:17] no.
[00:34:17] So I mean,
[00:34:18] I've got the book on there.
[00:34:19] I've also got buttons.
[00:34:21] So like pins that have like little quotes from the book that are,
[00:34:25] you know,
[00:34:25] kind of cool.
[00:34:26] There's some ones with the bisexual flag on them for all my bi friends.
[00:34:30] So there's that.
[00:34:31] But so feel free to go check that out.
[00:34:34] Yeah.
[00:34:35] Etsy,
[00:34:36] Instagram.
[00:34:37] Yeah.
[00:34:37] And part two is going to work.
[00:34:38] Okay.
[00:34:39] So maybe offline,
[00:34:41] but what can you tease a little bit?
[00:34:43] Maybe what is this next chapter entail at all?
[00:34:47] If you can at least give us something.
[00:34:50] Okay.
[00:34:50] I can give something.
[00:34:51] It still needs to be edited and all that,
[00:34:53] but it's still going to follow Emily and Cole.
[00:34:58] They just might not be in the same places,
[00:35:00] but that's okay.
[00:35:02] And.
[00:35:05] Yeah.
[00:35:05] I'm not sure.
[00:35:06] You don't have to give away.
[00:35:07] You don't have to give anything away.
[00:35:09] It's still going to involve them.
[00:35:10] None of the,
[00:35:11] like I said,
[00:35:11] none of the characters getting taken out.
[00:35:13] Like you're still going to be following everyone you've been following.
[00:35:16] It's just going to,
[00:35:17] you know,
[00:35:18] it's,
[00:35:18] you're just going to get a lot more happening,
[00:35:21] you know?
[00:35:21] So you'll still get that like,
[00:35:23] you know,
[00:35:24] intense action that you got in the first one.
[00:35:27] Okay.
[00:35:28] I'm ready for it.
[00:35:29] I'm ready.
[00:35:29] Primos.
[00:35:30] Oh,
[00:35:31] new characters.
[00:35:32] Yeah.
[00:35:32] But again,
[00:35:33] it was so great.
[00:35:34] Like as I closed the book,
[00:35:37] it was just like,
[00:35:38] I hope they're okay.
[00:35:40] That was just my like.
[00:35:42] Also,
[00:35:42] if y'all remember Trevor's friend Zita.
[00:35:45] Yes.
[00:35:46] Yes.
[00:35:47] There will be more of them.
[00:35:49] Good.
[00:35:49] Good.
[00:35:49] A lot more Zita.
[00:35:51] I love Zita.
[00:35:52] I was like.
[00:35:53] And you primos,
[00:35:54] you have to read the book to know what we're talking about here.
[00:35:56] Yeah.
[00:35:56] We're not going to give it away.
[00:35:57] Read it.
[00:35:58] Yeah.
[00:35:59] I'm going to gush about queer media,
[00:36:01] especially if it's Latina.
[00:36:02] I'm going to gush about it all day long.
[00:36:04] Cause it needs to be out there.
[00:36:06] I'm going to gush about it all day.
[00:36:08] A hundred percent.
[00:36:09] A hundred percent.
[00:36:09] Primo,
[00:36:10] stay tuned.
[00:36:11] We'll be back with the recommendations for the week.
[00:37:29] Primos,
[00:37:29] we are back.
[00:37:30] And of course,
[00:37:31] on that musical break,
[00:37:32] I want to thank Sin Color.
[00:37:34] Sin Color at Sin Color Music has done to us her music for the show this season.
[00:37:39] And so definitely check out her music.
[00:37:40] It's awesome.
[00:37:41] You've been enjoying it all season long.
[00:37:43] Go check out her album,
[00:37:44] Frutas.
[00:37:45] It is awesome.
[00:37:45] It's always has new music coming out at Sin Color Music.
[00:37:48] I wanted to just take that moment to shout out.
[00:37:51] Sin Color.
[00:37:52] Yeah.
[00:37:53] We've reached a point in the show where we're going to talk about our recommendations.
[00:37:56] We've been into recently.
[00:37:58] Talk trash if need be.
[00:38:00] Elia,
[00:38:00] I'm looking at you.
[00:38:01] Who and I?
[00:38:02] Surprisingly none this time.
[00:38:05] I have not checked out Dandadan,
[00:38:07] but I heard it's fun.
[00:38:08] And I want to,
[00:38:08] I haven't either.
[00:38:10] It's on my list.
[00:38:10] It looks fun.
[00:38:11] It looks fun.
[00:38:12] Especially in the anime,
[00:38:13] which,
[00:38:13] you know,
[00:38:13] Eli's book does have anime stuff sprinkled through there.
[00:38:18] There you go.
[00:38:19] Speaking of,
[00:38:20] I have been reading a manga,
[00:38:21] manga,
[00:38:22] manga,
[00:38:23] manga,
[00:38:24] manga,
[00:38:25] manga.
[00:38:26] It is called
[00:38:29] Destroy All,
[00:38:29] Humans.
[00:38:32] They can,
[00:38:32] can't be regenerated.
[00:38:34] Oh my God.
[00:38:35] Another good love title.
[00:38:36] And it's a magic gathering manga.
[00:38:37] And it takes place in the 90s.
[00:38:40] And what's really cool is that
[00:38:42] I got turned on to this because of a random Reddit thread.
[00:38:46] Nice.
[00:38:49] You know,
[00:38:50] I remember this manga that came out and it included a promo card that came with it.
[00:38:59] Yo.
[00:39:00] And I'm like,
[00:39:01] what?
[00:39:02] And I'm like,
[00:39:02] not the promo,
[00:39:03] not the promo.
[00:39:05] All it is,
[00:39:06] is a shiny version of this card.
[00:39:09] It's not a very valuable card at all.
[00:39:11] dang.
[00:39:12] Drag them.
[00:39:13] It's like the GameStop Pokemon cards.
[00:39:16] Yeah.
[00:39:16] Just like the McDonald's Pokemon and all that.
[00:39:19] But regardless,
[00:39:21] it's still a shiny.
[00:39:23] Yeah.
[00:39:24] And it's an exclusive and it's in this cool magic book.
[00:39:26] So I have.
[00:39:27] Is it just one volume?
[00:39:28] No.
[00:39:29] So there's,
[00:39:30] there's multiple volumes,
[00:39:31] but this volume came out just recently.
[00:39:34] The next volume was out in January.
[00:39:36] But apparently it's been,
[00:39:37] it's,
[00:39:37] it's already been out like fully released in Japan.
[00:39:40] I think there's like seven volumes of this.
[00:39:43] Viz Media,
[00:39:43] you know,
[00:39:44] Viz.
[00:39:44] Yeah.
[00:39:45] Hell yeah.
[00:39:46] So yeah.
[00:39:46] I've been reading this and it revolves around these two main characters.
[00:39:51] One of them is like an obsessed tabletop game player.
[00:39:55] And he thinks he's all shit.
[00:39:57] That he's the fucking dopest guy there that he can play magic and blah,
[00:40:00] blah,
[00:40:00] blah.
[00:40:00] She is like the student council president,
[00:40:03] if you will.
[00:40:03] Of course.
[00:40:04] Right.
[00:40:04] Like,
[00:40:05] don't waste your time on this.
[00:40:06] This game's a waste.
[00:40:07] This is,
[00:40:08] this is,
[00:40:09] this is contraband.
[00:40:10] You can't even have this on here.
[00:40:12] And it turns out that she is like almost a pro level status at this game.
[00:40:19] And they challenge each other so that they can,
[00:40:22] he has to,
[00:40:23] he is trying to convince her to like join his team to play magic competitively.
[00:40:29] But she's just like,
[00:40:30] nah,
[00:40:30] not worth my time.
[00:40:31] And they ended up having like a,
[00:40:32] a cool battle with real cards.
[00:40:35] Using the real mechanics from it.
[00:40:36] Not like Yu-Gi-Oh!
[00:40:37] Where you banish people to the shadow realm,
[00:40:39] which is something I'm going to do with.
[00:40:42] But it's a lot of fun.
[00:40:43] Slice of life-ish.
[00:40:44] It's a game.
[00:40:45] Because I love anything with games in it.
[00:40:47] I love magic.
[00:40:48] And this checks all the boxes.
[00:40:50] Anime.
[00:40:51] It's funny.
[00:40:52] It's,
[00:40:52] you know,
[00:40:53] slice of life at school.
[00:40:54] And magic.
[00:40:55] So I'd recommend it very,
[00:40:57] very much.
[00:40:58] And if you like magic,
[00:40:59] anime,
[00:41:00] and all the things I just said,
[00:41:01] check out.
[00:41:02] Destroy all humans.
[00:41:03] They can't be regenerated.
[00:41:04] That is a term on a card called Wrath of God.
[00:41:09] And that card says,
[00:41:11] destroy all creatures.
[00:41:12] They cannot be regenerated.
[00:41:14] Nice.
[00:41:14] So there's my pick.
[00:41:15] My pick.
[00:41:17] And secondly,
[00:41:19] Elia might know because she watches my feed sometimes here and there.
[00:41:22] I got to go see a couple people perform this,
[00:41:24] this thing.
[00:41:25] And I haven't talked about it,
[00:41:27] but I got to see Jungle Live.
[00:41:29] And I loved,
[00:41:31] my wife and me were just over the moon about it.
[00:41:34] But if you have not.
[00:41:36] You sent me that picture on,
[00:41:37] I was like,
[00:41:38] are you kidding me?
[00:41:40] Well,
[00:41:41] what Shady was like,
[00:41:41] I was like,
[00:41:42] everybody was kind of like just busy work.
[00:41:43] And I go like,
[00:41:43] this is a last minute thing.
[00:41:45] We got to go.
[00:41:45] Yeah.
[00:41:46] And I sent Elia the picture.
[00:41:47] She's like,
[00:41:47] no,
[00:41:48] I'm literally listening to them.
[00:41:51] Oh my God.
[00:41:53] I don't know if any,
[00:41:54] if we haven't mentioned it,
[00:41:55] but you know,
[00:41:56] Jungle has been such a,
[00:41:58] like a man.
[00:41:59] We were surprised because they're huge in Mexico.
[00:42:02] They're huge.
[00:42:02] Like they don't come to Texas.
[00:42:03] Are they really?
[00:42:04] Yeah.
[00:42:05] Huge in Mexico.
[00:42:06] Like huge.
[00:42:06] I didn't even know that.
[00:42:07] Oh my God.
[00:42:08] They're huge.
[00:42:08] My wife,
[00:42:09] I was to see their feeds.
[00:42:10] They're like,
[00:42:10] oh,
[00:42:10] they're in Mexico again,
[00:42:12] again.
[00:42:13] And like,
[00:42:13] they haven't come here.
[00:42:14] And so we got to see Jungle,
[00:42:16] which is a blast.
[00:42:17] If you have not heard Jungle,
[00:42:18] I don't know how to describe it.
[00:42:19] It's like this funk,
[00:42:21] um,
[00:42:23] techno.
[00:42:24] I mean,
[00:42:24] just calm,
[00:42:26] chill wave,
[00:42:27] chill wave,
[00:42:28] vibe music.
[00:42:30] And you can sit there and wiggle.
[00:42:32] Oh yeah.
[00:42:33] More than wiggle.
[00:42:35] You can jump up and down,
[00:42:36] wiggle,
[00:42:37] shmiggle,
[00:42:38] all that stuff.
[00:42:38] It was a blast.
[00:42:40] But if you have not listened to Jungle,
[00:42:42] uh,
[00:42:42] definitely,
[00:42:44] they got so popular.
[00:42:46] You can do that song Casio.
[00:42:48] That's like their thing right now.
[00:42:49] If you just type in Casio,
[00:42:50] jungle.
[00:42:51] Well,
[00:42:51] that,
[00:42:51] and I feel like if,
[00:42:53] if you've never like heard them or gone to look for them,
[00:42:55] you've heard back on 74 that brought them back into the light.
[00:42:59] Like it,
[00:42:59] it got a fortnight dance.
[00:43:01] It got like it.
[00:43:02] Yeah.
[00:43:03] Back on 74 was everywhere.
[00:43:05] Um,
[00:43:05] but that's not even the best song on that album.
[00:43:08] I'm just going to say that.
[00:43:10] Eli,
[00:43:10] are you,
[00:43:11] do you know jungle or are you familiar with jungle?
[00:43:12] Not really.
[00:43:14] That's okay.
[00:43:15] Maybe if I listened to like the music,
[00:43:16] I would be like,
[00:43:17] Oh,
[00:43:17] I do know.
[00:43:18] Oh yeah.
[00:43:19] It is that type of band though.
[00:43:20] Like once you,
[00:43:21] Oh yeah,
[00:43:21] I've heard this before.
[00:43:23] So my favorite go-to jungle,
[00:43:25] little jam to kind of move this forward would have to be,
[00:43:28] um,
[00:43:30] time.
[00:43:31] The song time.
[00:43:32] Like it's just,
[00:43:33] it's just epic.
[00:43:34] It's a fun song.
[00:43:35] I would say start there.
[00:43:37] Um,
[00:43:37] and then work your way through the catalog and whatever.
[00:43:40] And the videos are dope.
[00:43:42] The world got me through yesterday on,
[00:43:45] like I listened to that on loop a lot.
[00:43:47] Oh,
[00:43:48] yesterday,
[00:43:49] yesterday,
[00:43:49] yesterday.
[00:43:50] Well,
[00:43:50] we're not going to sully our energy.
[00:43:54] Yesterday's in the past.
[00:43:55] Yeah.
[00:43:55] This shit is in the past.
[00:43:57] We're going to move forward pretty much,
[00:43:58] but that's my recommendations.
[00:44:01] Uh,
[00:44:01] Eli,
[00:44:02] what about you?
[00:44:03] Let's put you on the spot.
[00:44:04] Yes.
[00:44:05] Uh,
[00:44:06] so thinking about the present and the future,
[00:44:09] um,
[00:44:10] there's an artist I really like on Instagram who just started doing commissions.
[00:44:14] Um,
[00:44:15] they're kind of like a really smaller artist,
[00:44:17] but we love our small artists.
[00:44:18] Yes.
[00:44:19] Um,
[00:44:19] and they,
[00:44:20] they are,
[00:44:21] uh,
[00:44:21] the uniquely normal on Instagram.
[00:44:24] So if y'all want to go check out some of their commissions,
[00:44:26] they do like this kind of like cool,
[00:44:28] kind of like,
[00:44:29] kind of like angular cartoony,
[00:44:31] like muscular sort of art.
[00:44:33] So it's really nice.
[00:44:35] Lots of,
[00:44:35] uh,
[00:44:35] gaming influences and anime influences.
[00:44:38] If any of y'all are into these characters are awesome.
[00:44:42] Yeah,
[00:44:43] no.
[00:44:43] So,
[00:44:44] you know,
[00:44:45] just a little shout out there.
[00:44:47] And then I also recently started watching a YouTube channel,
[00:44:51] um,
[00:44:52] where it's these,
[00:44:53] instead of just watching South park myself,
[00:44:56] it's,
[00:44:56] um,
[00:44:57] these two guys like reacting to South park.
[00:45:01] Um,
[00:45:02] I love it.
[00:45:03] And it's like the,
[00:45:06] one of the guys is named Hobbs.
[00:45:07] And I briefly forget the name of the other person.
[00:45:11] I'm wondering,
[00:45:12] I'm curious now.
[00:45:12] Cause I get sucked into,
[00:45:14] okay.
[00:45:15] There was like a week where I got sucked into watching British kids eat
[00:45:18] American food.
[00:45:19] Oh,
[00:45:20] I know.
[00:45:21] Cause it got on everyone's recommended.
[00:45:23] But yeah,
[00:45:24] yes,
[00:45:24] exactly.
[00:45:25] I was like,
[00:45:25] what is this?
[00:45:26] What is this?
[00:45:27] And yeah.
[00:45:29] Yeah.
[00:45:29] This is,
[00:45:30] um,
[00:45:30] yeah.
[00:45:31] Hobbs and it's him and his like best buddy.
[00:45:34] And they react to like different shows.
[00:45:35] Like they'd done South park.
[00:45:37] And smiling friends and stuff,
[00:45:39] but,
[00:45:39] um,
[00:45:39] they'll also do streaming.
[00:45:40] So they still like stream video games and stuff too.
[00:45:43] So it's like,
[00:45:44] it's kind of nice to,
[00:45:46] I don't know.
[00:45:46] I just,
[00:45:47] their voices are cool.
[00:45:48] They always have nice commentary.
[00:45:50] They're just like a good vibe.
[00:45:51] So I've been watching them.
[00:45:52] You know,
[00:45:53] it was a cool streamer that has like really cool vibes and like,
[00:45:55] has like really cool engagement.
[00:45:57] Uh,
[00:45:58] this streamer named,
[00:45:59] uh,
[00:46:00] Spiced Eliastrations.
[00:46:02] Yeah.
[00:46:03] I think,
[00:46:03] I think I met them,
[00:46:04] um,
[00:46:05] a few years ago.
[00:46:06] Yeah.
[00:46:06] Cool.
[00:46:06] I got like that,
[00:46:07] a trans concha tin or something.
[00:46:09] It was like really cool.
[00:46:10] that's her.
[00:46:11] That's her.
[00:46:12] She still owes me.
[00:46:13] She still owes me a concha sticker.
[00:46:15] That's like,
[00:46:17] So December drop,
[00:46:19] December drop.
[00:46:21] Well,
[00:46:22] Ms.
[00:46:22] Elia,
[00:46:22] it's up to you now to close out the show,
[00:46:25] the recommendations.
[00:46:27] okay.
[00:46:27] So I,
[00:46:28] I haven't done a lot of,
[00:46:28] I have a stack of books right here.
[00:46:30] You can see my stack of books over here.
[00:46:32] That's to read when we're on break for,
[00:46:34] for,
[00:46:34] uh,
[00:46:35] the holidays.
[00:46:36] Like I have a lot of reading,
[00:46:37] but I've done a lot of watching.
[00:46:39] Um,
[00:46:39] I will say I did go and watch the contestant for your recommendation.
[00:46:43] What did you,
[00:46:44] what did you think?
[00:46:45] Oh my God.
[00:46:47] Eli,
[00:46:48] did you know about this?
[00:46:49] The contestant?
[00:46:50] I've heard of it,
[00:46:51] but I don't really know like what it's about.
[00:46:53] Yeah.
[00:46:53] For those that don't remember,
[00:46:55] what is it?
[00:46:56] Oh,
[00:46:56] wait,
[00:46:56] it's this guy.
[00:46:57] Yeah.
[00:46:58] So,
[00:46:58] um,
[00:46:59] there's a Japanese game show and like,
[00:47:01] I had heard his story,
[00:47:02] like through like YouTube documentaries,
[00:47:04] not in depth,
[00:47:05] um,
[00:47:06] about a guy who,
[00:47:07] uh,
[00:47:07] was on a game show,
[00:47:09] got,
[00:47:09] got selected through a quote unquote audition,
[00:47:11] no contracts,
[00:47:12] no anything.
[00:47:13] Um,
[00:47:13] and his task was to survive in an apartment off of,
[00:47:19] um,
[00:47:20] raffles,
[00:47:21] like just like mail-in raffle.
[00:47:23] Magazine raffles.
[00:47:24] Yeah.
[00:47:24] Magazine raffles.
[00:47:25] And,
[00:47:26] and he had a radio as well.
[00:47:28] Um,
[00:47:28] and,
[00:47:28] and he,
[00:47:30] he was being recorded the whole time and he didn't even know.
[00:47:33] Um,
[00:47:34] and like live streamed and it like,
[00:47:36] it just kind of opened my eyes to like,
[00:47:38] how far,
[00:47:39] like this,
[00:47:40] this kind,
[00:47:40] this is kind of far,
[00:47:41] you know,
[00:47:42] it,
[00:47:43] it was,
[00:47:43] I didn't realize the depth and exploit exploitation levels that he had gone
[00:47:49] through.
[00:47:50] But I think seeing his story and also how he ended up getting out of it
[00:47:54] and all the things that he did,
[00:47:57] like,
[00:47:57] he's a good person.
[00:47:58] I follow him on Instagram now.
[00:48:00] he,
[00:48:00] he's done a lot,
[00:48:02] especially to his hometown.
[00:48:03] Yeah.
[00:48:04] Um,
[00:48:05] he,
[00:48:05] he's done a lot to like help his hometown,
[00:48:07] which was affected by,
[00:48:08] it was a tsunami.
[00:48:09] The tsunami.
[00:48:11] Yeah.
[00:48:11] Yeah.
[00:48:12] The 2011.
[00:48:13] Yeah.
[00:48:14] So it's like one of those things where it's like,
[00:48:15] he went through this intense,
[00:48:19] it's essentially torture,
[00:48:20] uh,
[00:48:21] of a game show for the sake of entertainment,
[00:48:23] but he thankfully like found the light of it in his own self.
[00:48:27] It's a great documentary.
[00:48:28] I didn't think I was going to cry.
[00:48:29] I did end up crying.
[00:48:30] I cried.
[00:48:31] Me and my wife had cried.
[00:48:31] Like,
[00:48:32] I was like,
[00:48:33] well,
[00:48:33] there it is.
[00:48:34] Um,
[00:48:34] but yeah,
[00:48:35] I,
[00:48:35] I heard you talk about it and I knew,
[00:48:37] I knew the story roughly.
[00:48:38] I just didn't realize that the whole story.
[00:48:40] So.
[00:48:41] Okay.
[00:48:41] Last thing on the contestant.
[00:48:42] Yeah.
[00:48:43] Yeah.
[00:48:43] Isn't the producer the fucking devil.
[00:48:45] I hate him.
[00:48:46] I hate him.
[00:48:46] I don't know how he forgave him.
[00:48:48] I would never.
[00:48:50] So yeah,
[00:48:51] go watch it and we can talk about it.
[00:48:52] Eli.
[00:48:53] Okay.
[00:48:53] Okay.
[00:48:54] As soon as you mentioned it,
[00:48:55] I was like,
[00:48:56] zero.
[00:48:57] All right.
[00:48:58] What else?
[00:48:59] And then,
[00:49:00] um,
[00:49:01] for,
[00:49:01] for the opposite of reality TV,
[00:49:03] that is just so crazy.
[00:49:05] So,
[00:49:05] um,
[00:49:05] my besties and I,
[00:49:06] we had a,
[00:49:07] uh,
[00:49:08] eat trash and watch trash,
[00:49:09] uh,
[00:49:10] birthday party this past weekend.
[00:49:11] And one of the trash shows that we watched was it's Florida man.
[00:49:16] Like it's Florida comma man.
[00:49:18] Um,
[00:49:19] so this is,
[00:49:20] I know this show.
[00:49:21] Okay.
[00:49:22] So it's insane,
[00:49:24] but like these stories,
[00:49:27] I mean,
[00:49:27] it's Florida.
[00:49:29] It's Florida,
[00:49:30] but the way that it's told is like,
[00:49:32] they get the people who really went through these stories and they do like,
[00:49:36] they have professional actors like that.
[00:49:38] You will know,
[00:49:39] come in and like reenact the story and tell it out.
[00:49:42] It's produced by Danny McBride.
[00:49:44] So it's got like that tone to it.
[00:49:46] Um,
[00:49:46] but it's,
[00:49:48] it's like the whole time I was just like,
[00:49:49] yeah.
[00:49:51] Yeah.
[00:49:51] And it's like,
[00:49:52] this is real life.
[00:49:53] Y'all really did this.
[00:49:54] Oh my God.
[00:49:54] But if you're into like feral reality TV,
[00:49:59] go for it.
[00:50:00] And if you have a strong stomach.
[00:50:03] Yes.
[00:50:03] Okay.
[00:50:04] Yes.
[00:50:05] For episode one,
[00:50:06] particularly.
[00:50:08] Um,
[00:50:08] that's the one I saw.
[00:50:10] Oh man.
[00:50:11] That's the one that got me.
[00:50:12] I was like,
[00:50:13] what?
[00:50:14] Yeah.
[00:50:15] I'm not going to,
[00:50:17] lots of the,
[00:50:18] yeah.
[00:50:19] Um,
[00:50:20] and then finally.
[00:50:22] I love,
[00:50:22] I love his face.
[00:50:23] I'm just,
[00:50:24] you know,
[00:50:24] I'll,
[00:50:26] you know,
[00:50:27] I'm always down to like,
[00:50:28] check something out.
[00:50:29] That's unusual.
[00:50:30] Yeah.
[00:50:31] Yeah.
[00:50:32] It's very unusual.
[00:50:33] Very.
[00:50:48] that first episode.
[00:50:49] It just,
[00:50:50] it exists in my brain.
[00:50:51] Like it.
[00:50:52] Yeah.
[00:50:52] Wow.
[00:50:52] That,
[00:50:53] that's.
[00:50:54] Yeah.
[00:50:54] Yeah.
[00:50:56] Yeah.
[00:50:57] Yeah.
[00:50:58] Um,
[00:50:58] and then.
[00:50:58] Good stuff.
[00:50:59] You're.
[00:51:00] No,
[00:51:01] yeah.
[00:51:01] No,
[00:51:02] no.
[00:51:02] Here's a good one though.
[00:51:03] Here's a good one though.
[00:51:04] I started watching Ranma one half the new one.
[00:51:07] Um,
[00:51:07] cool.
[00:51:08] Oh,
[00:51:09] I adore it.
[00:51:10] I'm in love with it.
[00:51:12] Like I,
[00:51:12] I know the,
[00:51:13] the story of,
[00:51:14] and the,
[00:51:14] the old anime from when it was coming on and the,
[00:51:17] the manga.
[00:51:18] And so when I saw the new version,
[00:51:20] I'm like,
[00:51:20] this animation style looks cute.
[00:51:22] I want to like,
[00:51:22] and it's like,
[00:51:23] it's done so perfectly.
[00:51:25] I think it's a really great,
[00:51:27] um,
[00:51:28] reboot.
[00:51:29] I'm not a reboot fan,
[00:51:30] but this one was just like,
[00:51:33] Oh,
[00:51:33] like fruit basket.
[00:51:34] Yes.
[00:51:35] Like fruit basket.
[00:51:36] Yeah.
[00:51:37] Oh,
[00:51:37] I love fruits.
[00:51:38] Oh my God.
[00:51:38] I could.
[00:51:39] Oh my God.
[00:51:40] But no,
[00:51:41] I think Ranma one half this go round is being given good treatment.
[00:51:46] I feel like the animators do what?
[00:51:49] Oh,
[00:51:50] I've heard good things about like one half lately.
[00:51:53] Yeah.
[00:51:54] And like,
[00:51:54] what I love about it is the animation style is definitely giving like service
[00:52:01] artistically to Rumiku Takahashi who,
[00:52:04] who created it.
[00:52:05] Like it's nice.
[00:52:06] It's so good.
[00:52:07] It's so good.
[00:52:08] I do recommend it.
[00:52:09] If you've never watched even the original Ranma and y'all watch this one,
[00:52:14] that's okay.
[00:52:15] It's,
[00:52:15] it's so good.
[00:52:16] And it's,
[00:52:16] it's just great.
[00:52:17] I recommend it.
[00:52:18] Especially if you're an anime fan,
[00:52:20] put it on your list.
[00:52:21] It's on Netflix,
[00:52:22] I think,
[00:52:22] right?
[00:52:22] Yeah.
[00:52:22] Netflix.
[00:52:23] I think that's right.
[00:52:24] Yeah.
[00:52:24] It's on there.
[00:52:25] Yeah.
[00:52:25] Every Friday right now.
[00:52:26] Fridays.
[00:52:27] What's going on on Fridays for you?
[00:52:29] I think Fridays are,
[00:52:30] you're doing some event,
[00:52:32] right?
[00:52:32] I see.
[00:52:33] I see your little segue there.
[00:52:35] Um,
[00:52:36] yeah.
[00:52:36] Every Friday starting the not today's the seventh,
[00:52:40] but next Friday,
[00:52:41] the 15th,
[00:52:42] um,
[00:52:42] every Friday in November,
[00:52:44] I'm going to be hosting my beatus birthday bash,
[00:52:48] uh,
[00:52:48] which is the birthday streams that I do every year.
[00:52:51] Uh,
[00:52:52] not for me.
[00:52:53] I end up raising funds for the JDRF,
[00:52:56] which is now known as breakthrough T1D.
[00:52:58] Um,
[00:52:59] cause I'm a type one diabetic myself,
[00:53:00] but I like to use my platform to help raise money towards a type one diabetes cure,
[00:53:05] as well as technology advancements.
[00:53:07] And this year I'm doing a commission a thon.
[00:53:09] Um,
[00:53:10] so my commissions online are closed.
[00:53:12] However,
[00:53:12] if you want to commission,
[00:53:13] you got to donate to the JDRF and I will draw you whatever you want at cheaper prices right now too.
[00:53:19] So like it'll cost less to get you a commission,
[00:53:21] but everything goes towards breakthrough T1D.
[00:53:24] Cause yeah.
[00:53:25] Yeah.
[00:53:26] So I'm excited.
[00:53:27] You're doing that every Friday,
[00:53:29] primos definitely go check out Twitch spicy illustrations.
[00:53:33] And don't forget Elia,
[00:53:35] your Kickstarter is live.
[00:53:37] Your Kickstarter is still live.
[00:53:39] Primos.
[00:53:39] We already get the 50% mark.
[00:53:42] 50%.
[00:53:43] It's only been seven days,
[00:53:45] seven days.
[00:53:47] Okay.
[00:53:47] Thank you.
[00:53:48] Everybody also who has helped the campaign thus far and who will be,
[00:53:53] and who have been sharing.
[00:53:54] I see y'all.
[00:53:55] We're going to do it.
[00:53:56] We're sharing.
[00:53:56] We're sharing.
[00:53:57] Primos go out there and check out,
[00:53:58] just search on Kickstarter.
[00:54:00] Elia.
[00:54:02] I have an inkling.
[00:54:03] It pops right up.
[00:54:05] So check out Kickstarter.
[00:54:07] I have an inkling or Elia Maria and boom,
[00:54:09] it pops right up.
[00:54:10] Definitely.
[00:54:11] She,
[00:54:11] she's,
[00:54:12] you know,
[00:54:12] I read your,
[00:54:12] your proposal.
[00:54:13] Like I actually went through it like an adult,
[00:54:16] like reading.
[00:54:17] Oh,
[00:54:19] cards and graphs.
[00:54:20] And,
[00:54:20] you know,
[00:54:21] I can support her getting her hair done.
[00:54:23] If this,
[00:54:23] if this goes extra,
[00:54:24] like I'm okay with that.
[00:54:25] Yeah.
[00:54:26] My little pie chart.
[00:54:27] So the pie chart separated by printing costs,
[00:54:32] shipping and handling.
[00:54:33] And then 1% because my ends are dead.
[00:54:36] As you can see,
[00:54:37] they stand up by themselves.
[00:54:39] I need a haircut.
[00:54:42] Yes.
[00:54:43] We need to get her to come to Fort Worth.
[00:54:44] That's the only way she'll come out here.
[00:54:45] Okay.
[00:54:46] So I need you to make that happen.
[00:54:48] Okay.
[00:54:49] Please.
[00:54:50] I want to see my friend.
[00:54:51] Okay.
[00:54:52] It doesn't come out here unless it involves hair.
[00:54:55] So you need to make it happen.
[00:54:57] That's not,
[00:54:57] I will go to Fort Worth for other reasons.
[00:55:02] We'll see.
[00:55:03] We'll see.
[00:55:03] I don't know.
[00:55:05] Well,
[00:55:06] Elia,
[00:55:06] is there anything else you want to announce?
[00:55:07] Anything else you want to pimp?
[00:55:09] Where's wise?
[00:55:10] Uh,
[00:55:11] no,
[00:55:12] I think that's all I have to annoy you all this time.
[00:55:15] No,
[00:55:15] that annoying.
[00:55:16] Cause we love to consume.
[00:55:17] Remember,
[00:55:17] we love to consume.
[00:55:19] We love to obsess.
[00:55:20] We love to get into things and goofy things.
[00:55:22] And I really appreciate it.
[00:55:25] First and foremost,
[00:55:26] Eli,
[00:55:27] Eli,
[00:55:27] I want to thank you again.
[00:55:28] Just bow my heart and gush over the book.
[00:55:31] Cause I really enjoyed it.
[00:55:33] I'm almost done.
[00:55:34] I'm being very honest,
[00:55:34] right?
[00:55:35] I'm almost done,
[00:55:36] but,
[00:55:37] um,
[00:55:37] I enjoy the characters.
[00:55:38] I enjoy the world you've built there.
[00:55:40] And it is something that I highly recommend in the recommendation section here.
[00:55:44] Check out the theory of reality part one by Eli Mendoza.
[00:55:48] Again,
[00:55:48] Amazon,
[00:55:49] you can search for it on his Etsy.

[00:56:03] You're doing great work,
[00:56:05] Eli.

[00:56:05] really,
[00:56:05] um,
[00:56:07] hope that you enjoyed the visit here with the Primos.
[00:56:10] Yeah,
[00:56:11] no,
[00:56:11] I had a really good time.
[00:56:12] Like,
[00:56:12] I'm really glad that you all invited me here.
[00:56:15] It's been great.
[00:56:16] No,

[00:56:24] And of course,
[00:56:24] your Kevin Garcia is out right now.
[00:56:25] He's doing his Kevin Garcia dot com things.
[00:56:28] You know,
[00:56:28] we never know.
[00:56:29] Uh,
[00:56:29] but I want to just thank everybody for listening.

[00:57:55] Discuss geekdom.
[00:57:56] And everything else in between.
[00:57:59] Take care of each other,
[00:58:00] primos.
