[00:00:00] What's up, Primos, Primas, and Primes? Welcome to my, My Primos, My Primos, My Primo Podcast. My name is Freddy. My name is Kevin Garcia. My name is Elia Maria Matriz. This is Chukuma, whenever I can make it. My Primos Podcast discusses all things fandom and pop culture. From comic books, movies, to whatever obsession we have this week. But with a Latine, Latine, Latine perspective. Remember, we're all Primos. We're all Primos. We're all Primos. No matter what part of the world we're from.
[00:00:37] What's up, Primos, Primas, and Primes? And welcome back to My Primos Podcast. My name is Primo Freddy. And with me tonight is my, Primo, and yours, Mr. Kevin Garcia, underscore, calm. Say what's up, Kevin.
[00:00:49] What's up, Kevin?
[00:00:50] He's back, everybody. He is back. There was a big gaping hole over here.
[00:00:55] Look, I listened to the last episode, and I heard that our other co-host properly introduced herself, so.
[00:01:03] Definitely. Of course, with us, my, Prima, and yours.
[00:01:06] The Spice Illustrations, Elia Maria Madrid. Say what's up, Elia.
[00:01:11] What's up, Elia?
[00:01:12] Yes.
[00:01:13] Yeah, look at those. Look at those hands.
[00:01:16] Those hands. Those hands.
[00:01:21] Okay. I'm, I don't know. I need little hands, too.
[00:01:24] I need something. I need something.
[00:01:27] Guys, we're having fun, of course. We have a special guest night returning.
[00:01:31] We didn't scare him off. Mr. Rafael Flores Jr., the creator of The Return of Camazots, the Camazots comics.
[00:01:38] Say what's up, Rafael.
[00:01:39] Hey, guys. What's up, man?
[00:01:41] How are you back, man?
[00:01:42] Yay.
[00:01:43] I'm glad you're back, man. I'm glad you're back.
[00:01:45] But we're going to get right into.
[00:01:46] You always have the most epic hair, man.
[00:01:48] Yeah.
[00:01:49] It is the greatest quaff I've seen.
[00:01:53] I'm so upset that I'm a Latina.
[00:01:55] Close with that.
[00:01:56] I didn't get the curly hair jeans. I'm forever upset.
[00:01:59] It's a blessing and a curse.
[00:02:01] Fair enough, fair enough.
[00:02:03] I'll take the curse. Whatever comes with it.
[00:02:05] Like, you know, getting pulled over by cops.
[00:02:08] You know, whatever.
[00:02:09] Like, getting tangles.
[00:02:10] It happens.
[00:02:11] Like, you know, whatever comes with it, I'm down.
[00:02:13] Like, give it to me. I'll take it.
[00:02:14] As long as I can just go like this and do that.
[00:02:19] Look, you guys made fun of me because I used to have the rat tail.
[00:02:21] But the reason I had the rat tail was specifically so I could have something move around.
[00:02:24] No, that was just a bad decision in 1993 that just needed to stop.
[00:02:29] I'm not saying it wasn't a bad decision, but that's why I had it.
[00:02:32] Hashtag bring back the rat tail.
[00:02:34] No, kill the rat tail.
[00:02:36] Chop it off.
[00:02:37] Oh, no. Why?
[00:02:38] Why? Why?
[00:02:39] I'm thinking about turning it into like a bullet or something, you know?
[00:02:43] Just shave one side and then like comb over that and then be like.
[00:02:47] Business in the front, party in the back.
[00:02:49] But it'll look good because it's curly.
[00:02:52] It'll look like Lars from Steven Universe.
[00:02:55] It would.
[00:02:56] Do a reverse bullet.
[00:02:58] Shave the whole back but leave the front.
[00:03:00] No.
[00:03:01] Like a devil lock.
[00:03:03] Oh, my God.
[00:03:04] You know, you could be like Cousin It and then be like.
[00:03:06] But look, in the back.
[00:03:07] Very respectful.
[00:03:09] No.
[00:03:10] That's terrifying.
[00:03:11] I was just watching somebody right now do a Spanish cosplay of Wednesday.
[00:03:17] And she had It.
[00:03:18] Was it It?
[00:03:19] Thing.
[00:03:20] Thing, right?
[00:03:22] It's like, soy miércoles.
[00:03:23] And it's a cosita.
[00:03:24] And they call it cosa o cosita.
[00:03:26] Thing, right?
[00:03:27] Yeah.
[00:03:28] What did they call Cousin It in Spanish?
[00:03:31] Eso.
[00:03:33] I don't know.
[00:03:34] Both of them.
[00:03:35] We would guess.
[00:03:35] I have to look it up.
[00:03:36] I don't think so.
[00:03:37] Yeah, that's my guess.
[00:03:38] Cousin It.
[00:03:38] Now I gotta watch it in Spanish.
[00:03:41] In Spanish.
[00:03:42] My friend from Mexico always tells me that the better way to watch everything is in Spanish.
[00:03:46] Yeah.
[00:03:46] And honestly, I've seen some anime in Spanish.
[00:03:48] And yeah, he's not wrong.
[00:03:49] Hey, the Shrek movies dubbed.
[00:03:51] Let me tell you something.
[00:03:53] I heard it's crazy.
[00:03:55] It's top tier.
[00:03:56] I actually watched Shrek 2 in theaters in Mexico for when it premiered.
[00:04:01] And I was dying.
[00:04:03] And then I came back to the States and watched it.
[00:04:05] I'm like, man, some of these jokes, like they're good jokes.
[00:04:08] But the Spanish ones, they were great.
[00:04:11] No, I can't find it.
[00:04:13] It says, all it's telling me is how to say cousin in Spanish.
[00:04:17] What you need to do is search Google.mx and then see what you find.
[00:04:23] All right, Timo.
[00:04:24] If you can, I'm going to leave it up to the audience.
[00:04:27] Tell me what was cousin It's name in Spanish.
[00:04:30] Por favor.
[00:04:31] You know what?
[00:04:33] I was going to say watch.
[00:04:34] His name is cousin It in Spanish.
[00:04:36] Like that's his whole name.
[00:04:37] No, what could be like?
[00:04:39] Something like cousin Javier.
[00:04:40] Just like a straight up like, oh, that's Javier.
[00:04:42] Alejandro Gustavo.
[00:04:43] Alejandro Gustavo Javier III.
[00:04:46] And it's not like you don't even have to replace his lip flaps or anything, right?
[00:04:49] It's still the same.
[00:04:49] Yeah.
[00:04:50] Yeah, it's true.
[00:04:51] Well, guys, of course, I want to just put it out there because you can follow us at My Primos Podcast.
[00:04:55] And of course, visit myprimospodcast.com for all our updates.
[00:04:59] Now, just for warning, it's getting close to the end of the year, which means it's getting close to the end of our season.
[00:05:06] I very much am proud to say that we put out week-to-week content sometimes.
[00:05:11] You know, we get breaks and things happen.
[00:05:13] But for the most part, it's hard.
[00:05:15] It's hard to make consistent content on a weekly basis.
[00:05:18] And those that do and have a power to you because it's awesome and it's hard work.
[00:05:24] But I'm very proud to say that we are climbing, if not very near to like our 200th episode or so of this show.
[00:05:33] So we're like this close to catching up to The Simpsons.
[00:05:36] Yeah.
[00:05:37] Very close.
[00:05:37] Very close.
[00:05:38] Which, by the way, didn't The Simpsons like end recently?
[00:05:40] No.
[00:05:41] Wasn't there a gag or something?
[00:05:42] Like a...
[00:05:43] Season 36.
[00:05:45] But it said something along the lines of like the last Simpsons episode ever.
[00:05:48] Like that was the name of the episode.
[00:05:49] Was that for real though?
[00:05:52] They said Bart Simpson had a birthday for the first time.
[00:05:54] At the real birthday.
[00:05:55] He's no longer 10 years old.
[00:05:57] They've had other incidents where they've moved.
[00:05:59] Anyway, back on topic.
[00:06:01] We are growing and staying and steadily growing.
[00:06:05] We have amazing guests like Rafael.
[00:06:09] And that's why we're here.
[00:06:11] That's why we're here, guys.
[00:06:12] I want to thank, of course, everybody that's been on the show and everybody listening and supporting us.
[00:06:17] You know, primos out there.
[00:06:18] We always say it, you know, no matter where you're from, we're all primos.
[00:06:21] And I thank everybody because we wouldn't be doing this if we didn't have the community, the comunidad behind us, willing to share their time, their stories, their lives.
[00:06:31] Sharing your art is a very personal thing, even though we want to be public with it.
[00:06:34] It is still a personal thing we're putting out there in front of so many people.
[00:06:37] So I appreciate every creative person out there, every content creator, every artist, every musician, every editor, everybody that's ever just helped us and got us where we are today.
[00:06:48] So I want to just put a big thank you for all the primos out there.
[00:06:50] And stay tuned.
[00:06:51] We're going to do more and more in the next year.
[00:06:53] This is our first full year doing, one, with Elia with us.
[00:06:57] And secondly, of course, just doing video consistently.
[00:06:59] So we've been getting a lot of good feedback on that.
[00:07:02] So I want to just put that out there and thank you before we jump in.
[00:07:05] But Rafael, as Mr. Kevin Garcia has just alluded to, we have a great creator with us today.
[00:07:11] Mr. Rafael Flores, right behind you, we have a big, huge, dope poster.
[00:07:16] I love the branding.
[00:07:20] You have two bats behind you, don't you?
[00:07:24] Whoa.
[00:07:26] Which is the better bat, man.
[00:07:27] Which is the better bat.
[00:07:28] That's it.
[00:07:29] Yeah.
[00:07:32] Hey, man.
[00:07:33] Kamazats was the original Batman, right?
[00:07:36] Yo.
[00:07:36] That's what I wanted to hear.
[00:07:38] That's what I wanted to hear, man.
[00:07:39] Three days, Bruce, what's his name?
[00:07:41] Definitely.
[00:07:42] Well, let's talk about Kamazats.
[00:07:43] I mean, we have volume one release, right?
[00:07:45] And you also debuted the book on your first show, which we're really excited about.
[00:07:50] You know, we visit Texatino Comic Con.
[00:07:52] Can you talk a little bit about the reception of the first book and how that's been for you since we got spoke?
[00:07:58] It's been great, man.
[00:07:59] And the reception has been amazing.
[00:08:02] Way better than I expected, honestly, because this is my first comic.
[00:08:05] You know, like, who knows?
[00:08:07] I thought I was, I could have been terrible, you know?
[00:08:09] I don't know.
[00:08:09] I wrote it.
[00:08:11] You know, but no, everybody's been loving it.
[00:08:14] I'm super proud of it, too.
[00:08:16] I'm super proud of it.
[00:08:17] The work that the team has done.
[00:08:19] All our cover artists, the interior artists, especially, Azrael.
[00:08:24] So, it's just amazing.
[00:08:26] Working with the publisher, Grimcore Studios, it's been so helpful for me to get my start, you know, in the comic book industry.
[00:08:35] Because, you know, before, I mean, I could have done it, you know, by myself, like, at this level.
[00:08:40] And, you know, getting all this, you know, we've gotten a couple of reviews and stuff like that.
[00:08:44] And from, like, websites and, you know, doing shows like this.
[00:08:48] Yeah, a really dope website called My Primo's Podcast gave it a pretty solid review.
[00:08:52] If I say just so myself.
[00:08:54] I trust everything they say implicitly.
[00:08:58] Everything.
[00:08:59] Everything.
[00:09:00] Except that, you know, Kevin doesn't agree that the website wholeheartedly says Zelda 2 is the worst Zelda ever created.
[00:09:06] Just putting it out there again.
[00:09:07] No.
[00:09:08] But, Rafael, like, we're moving past that.
[00:09:10] So, we're here today because you also are promoting book two.
[00:09:14] You have a Kickstarter that's live right now.
[00:09:15] The Return of the Return of Kamisats.
[00:09:18] Oh, yeah.
[00:09:20] Tell us a little bit about your book.
[00:09:22] I'll give you the floor here, man.
[00:09:23] Like, tell us about the new Kickstarter, the new book, the pitch.
[00:09:26] So, everybody that maybe is familiar with your work can kind of get enticed like we are.
[00:09:31] Or maybe they aren't and want to know why they should get involved and tell them about the story.
[00:09:36] Sure.
[00:09:36] The Return of Kamisats is a book that I wrote.
[00:09:39] It's about these two twins.
[00:09:44] They were inspired by the Mayan hero twins.
[00:09:46] And the story of them and Kamisats.
[00:09:49] And I wanted to make this, like, modern gothic horror version of that tale.
[00:09:54] And it's the Return of Kamisats.
[00:09:57] It's about Victor and Vincent.
[00:10:00] They go to Mexico to kind of honor their deceased mother who committed suicide.
[00:10:06] And it's a very emotional story.
[00:10:10] The two brothers are very – they have different viewpoints about what happened with the mother.
[00:10:15] And it's about that tension between them and about what happened.
[00:10:21] And there's some mystery involved.
[00:10:22] There's, like, this almost cultish type secret kind of going in the background.
[00:10:30] You know, there's Mayan mythology and giant bats and blood and gore.
[00:10:35] And it's dope, man.
[00:10:37] And I'm really proud of it.
[00:10:39] The first issue came out last year.
[00:10:41] And we're doing the second issue right now.
[00:10:43] It's live on Kickstarter.
[00:10:46] And we have four great covers.
[00:10:49] One by Azrael, the main interior artist.
[00:10:52] We got one by Peytono Valenzuela.
[00:10:57] He's a great artist.
[00:10:59] Black Rabbit comics.
[00:11:01] Really good, cool dude.
[00:11:03] I love his stuff, dude.
[00:11:04] I love that cover.
[00:11:05] I follow him online.
[00:11:06] I love his stuff.
[00:11:06] His stuff is good.
[00:11:07] Yeah, really great stuff.
[00:11:08] And we also got one by Ariel Medell, who worked on TMNT versus Street Fighter.
[00:11:14] A great, great artist.
[00:11:16] He's going to do the chrome, like, foil cover.
[00:11:19] Oh, nice.
[00:11:20] Yeah.
[00:11:20] Oh, yeah.
[00:11:21] We got an EC Comics, like, homage cover, too.
[00:11:24] Not on the list.
[00:11:25] Homage cover.
[00:11:26] Known by Alejandro Samara.
[00:11:28] And, yeah, great, man.
[00:11:30] I love all these cover artists.
[00:11:31] They really nailed it.
[00:11:32] And I'm super proud of this campaign, particularly.
[00:11:36] When you first told me about this, like, almost two years ago, I want to say,
[00:11:40] I love the concept of using my mythology and the culture and the history for a gothic horror.
[00:11:48] Because I think so often, you know, whenever they're going to show Mesoamerican cultures,
[00:11:52] it's like Indiana Jones, just set piece for the American hero to go do a thing.
[00:11:57] Yeah.
[00:11:57] But, like, you could make Mesoamerican stuff.
[00:12:00] It could be sci-fi.
[00:12:00] It can be horror.
[00:12:01] It could be romance.
[00:12:02] It can be adventure.
[00:12:03] And I love the idea of taking it and doing this kind of, like, I don't want to say hellboy,
[00:12:07] but being a gothic horror and having fun with it, you know what I mean?
[00:12:10] Yeah.
[00:12:11] So I just love that.
[00:12:12] I felt like it was just a natural fit for, like, you think about the Mayan and the Aztec mythology and the religion.
[00:12:20] And it's like, it's so goth already, you know?
[00:12:22] Yeah.
[00:12:23] For real.
[00:12:24] So it was always there.
[00:12:26] It was just about, like, showing it to the world, you know?
[00:12:28] Like, it's already there.
[00:12:29] And bring it out into the light, you know?
[00:12:31] And, like, don't be afraid to do it.
[00:12:33] Just do it, you know?
[00:12:36] Hell yeah.
[00:12:36] And then I love that you were showing it at Texas, you know, Comic-Con because that's where other creators could check it out.
[00:12:40] And you got to meet with other creators as well.
[00:12:43] Yeah, man.
[00:12:44] It was dope.
[00:12:44] That was my first convention ever.
[00:12:47] I got seated right next to the Chiswa table.
[00:12:50] And right across from John Avina, who was, like, the special guest of honor.
[00:12:55] I was like, oh, my God.
[00:12:56] This is, like, the greatest table I've ever, like, I could imagine.
[00:12:59] And you were right across from Elia, too, right there.
[00:13:02] Elia was right there.
[00:13:03] You had Pesta Hero right there.
[00:13:05] You had Avina right there.
[00:13:06] David Bowles was somewhere around there, too?
[00:13:09] Yeah, he was right next to me.
[00:13:09] I mean, it was great talking to all the creators there.
[00:13:13] A lot of them came and they bought the book or they said, hey, I know you, man.
[00:13:17] Like, I've been following your stuff.
[00:13:18] That's so fun to hear that.
[00:13:20] Like, oh, really?
[00:13:21] Me, too, man.
[00:13:22] I was like, like, Quetzalcoatl comic was there.
[00:13:27] Martinas, yeah.
[00:13:27] Check out those guys.
[00:13:28] And Sam, those guys are dope.
[00:13:31] I was following them.
[00:13:32] We're kind of friends, like, online.
[00:13:34] It's funny, like, how that happens.
[00:13:36] And then you meet in person and it's like, wow.
[00:13:38] Like, John Avina, too.
[00:13:39] Like, it was great meeting him.
[00:13:41] I got a picture with the three of us.
[00:13:44] And it was dope, man.
[00:13:45] It was one of the best times I've ever had.
[00:13:47] So we made a lot of money.
[00:13:49] The future.
[00:13:50] Look at Elia.
[00:13:51] She's blushing, man.
[00:13:52] She's like, yes.
[00:13:53] I was so happy knowing people had fun at the show.
[00:13:55] You know?
[00:13:56] That's why I love, like, helping with it.
[00:13:58] It was so great.
[00:13:59] It was like a family experience for my family because they were there.
[00:14:01] They were supporting me.
[00:14:02] Like, they had the Kamasas T-shirts.
[00:14:05] It was great.
[00:14:06] They were selling the book while I was, like, you know, signing autographs.
[00:14:09] They were like, yeah, hey, read it, man.
[00:14:11] And it was just, it was great.
[00:14:13] It was a great bonding experience for my family and me.
[00:14:15] And, like, and just, like, meeting the other creators, other Latino creators, especially.
[00:14:19] It was just, it felt like, it felt like you're meeting all your friends.
[00:14:23] You know how exciting and how great it makes us feel to hear that, right?
[00:14:28] It's like, oh, wow.
[00:14:29] Look at this enthusiasm, this warmth, this community that we always talk about, right?
[00:14:34] You know how you can really help and be part of it is by joining the Kickstarter, right?
[00:14:39] Helping this book get made.
[00:14:41] You'll get the same feels because you're helping create something that can get out there.
[00:14:46] You know, not only that, you bring people together, you bring creators together,
[00:14:48] and you get a dope, dark-ass, bloody story that I really enjoy.
[00:14:55] You read it for the first time recently.
[00:14:57] What were your thoughts on the first book?
[00:14:59] Dude, like, by the third page with, like, so, like, people who know me and, like, my vibe.
[00:15:05] Like, yeah, I love, like, cutesy art.
[00:15:08] I love comedy.
[00:15:09] But I love consuming horror titles.
[00:15:12] I love horror so much.
[00:15:14] So, as soon as, like, I got to, like, the third page with, I don't want to, like,
[00:15:18] anything, but, like, when the mother is on the page during the nightmare, I was, like,
[00:15:23] let's go.
[00:15:24] Like, I was so ready.
[00:15:26] Like, what are we getting into?
[00:15:28] And, like, I don't know.
[00:15:29] There's something really cool about having it tie in with our, like, heritage, like,
[00:15:35] and the legends from that and bringing it into an all-new story.
[00:15:39] Like, oh, yeah, now you have a curse.
[00:15:41] And it's based off of, like, history and stuff, like, that's been written.
[00:15:45] And it's just really cool to see it both tie in together for a story.
[00:15:49] And I'm already ready for volume.
[00:15:50] I'm ready for volume two, three, four, five.
[00:15:52] Like, I want to know what happens.
[00:15:53] Like, it's, it's, I'm very much consumed by the story.
[00:15:58] Thank you.
[00:15:58] Thank you.
[00:15:59] I'm glad.
[00:16:00] I'm so glad.
[00:16:01] Like, you know what?
[00:16:01] Writing it, like, I'll just say writing it.
[00:16:04] You got to feel that when you're writing it.
[00:16:06] You got every page turn.
[00:16:07] Every page turn.
[00:16:08] You got to, like, surprise yourself while you're writing it.
[00:16:10] You got to, like, you think you're thinking while you're writing this is where it's going.
[00:16:15] But then when that page turn happens, you got to be like, no, actually.
[00:16:18] Yeah, no, for real.
[00:16:20] Yeah, like, actually I have to do this.
[00:16:22] That's what it felt like.
[00:16:23] Yeah.
[00:16:23] And you want to keep twisting your audience.
[00:16:26] And, like, I love the feedback.
[00:16:28] I'm glad.
[00:16:29] Because, like, that's what I was trying to do.
[00:16:30] And I'm glad that it worked and it succeeded.
[00:16:32] It makes me happy.
[00:16:33] I'm really proud of the comic.
[00:16:35] And, oh, yeah.
[00:16:37] It was fun writing it.
[00:16:38] So this next one, you can't fuck up, right?
[00:16:40] It's going to be amazing.
[00:16:41] It has to be better.
[00:16:42] Right?
[00:16:42] Yeah.
[00:16:43] It's going to be dope.
[00:16:44] No pressure.
[00:16:44] It just has to be better.
[00:16:46] It is.
[00:16:46] It's going to be better.
[00:16:47] It's even better than the first one.
[00:16:48] Trust me.
[00:16:49] Oh, there you go.
[00:16:49] Even better.
[00:16:50] Like, I'm going to forget about the first one because I'm going to be so obsessed with
[00:16:53] the second one, right?
[00:16:54] Yeah.
[00:16:54] That's how good it can be.
[00:16:55] It continues the story.
[00:16:56] It continues the story.
[00:16:56] I was going to say, I would hope you remember the previous part.
[00:16:59] It's a whole new plot.
[00:17:00] I'm just saying, I mean, I like Back to the Future, but Back to the Future 2 is my favorite
[00:17:04] Back to the Future.
[00:17:04] I'm just going to say, you know?
[00:17:06] It was good.
[00:17:06] Even though they all need to be together to enjoy the whole film.
[00:17:09] But Back to the Future 2.
[00:17:10] You know, you're not wrong.
[00:17:17] I thought about calling them part one or part two, part three, because I feel like that's
[00:17:22] very horror-esque, right?
[00:17:24] Makes sense.
[00:17:25] Yeah.
[00:17:26] What's the second one called?
[00:17:27] Yeah.
[00:17:28] What's the second one called?
[00:17:29] Just issue two?
[00:17:31] Yeah.
[00:17:31] It's just issue two.
[00:17:34] Okay.
[00:17:34] You're going to be like, ooh.
[00:17:36] A little straight to the point.
[00:17:37] Yep.
[00:17:37] It's called Second Blood, part one.
[00:17:40] Second Blood.
[00:17:41] Isn't that Rambo kind of?
[00:17:42] I think the return of Kamazots is a radio sentence.
[00:17:45] It's like, I can't add more to this.
[00:17:47] You can't do it.
[00:17:48] The return of Kamazots to the bloodline of the third and the second twin.
[00:17:53] Yeah.
[00:17:54] Part two.
[00:17:58] I'm down.
[00:17:59] Fuck it.
[00:17:59] I'm in.
[00:17:59] I'm all the way in.
[00:18:01] Yeah.
[00:18:01] No, but again, Kickstarter, it's live right now.
[00:18:02] But even though this is going live all the way through October 31st.
[00:18:06] There are tons of covers you can get to.
[00:18:08] We'll show off the covers on our socials here as well.
[00:18:11] But there are some great perks.
[00:18:14] Grimcore.
[00:18:14] I mean, talk a little bit about Grimcore.
[00:18:15] I know Daniel Grimm has kind of really kind of pushed you in front of his label and what
[00:18:21] he's doing.
[00:18:22] Talk about Grimm and what he's up to.
[00:18:24] Can you share a little bit of what you guys are planning?
[00:18:27] Or what can you share about Grimcore a little bit?
[00:18:29] I can't share much, honestly.
[00:18:31] But I can just say that working with Grimcore has been great.
[00:18:35] Daniel Grimm, the publisher, editor over there, has been super fantastic.
[00:18:41] Working with me, helping me create this universe and doing the Kickstarter campaign.
[00:18:48] He runs it all.
[00:18:49] So I'm kind of just the writer.
[00:18:51] But no.
[00:18:53] Do the eye candy.
[00:18:55] It's great, man.
[00:18:56] And honestly, it's better than not doing it all on my own.
[00:19:00] Because eventually I'm going to learn it.
[00:19:01] I'm going to learn how to do it eventually on my own.
[00:19:04] But no.
[00:19:06] He's been great.
[00:19:07] He's basically gotten me started in this industry.
[00:19:10] And he's doing a lot of great stuff.
[00:19:12] I mean, he's got a lot of new talent that are going to come and make some books.
[00:19:16] And they just released Screams from the Past, which is an anthology.
[00:19:21] Anthology.
[00:19:21] Like old 1950s and 40s comics.
[00:19:26] And so, yeah.
[00:19:27] But Return of Commons Lots is their main title right now.
[00:19:30] And I'm just super proud and happy to be a part of the team.
[00:19:34] Honestly, it's always good to work with a team like that.
[00:19:36] It's good to have support.
[00:19:38] Like, you know, when you're a creator and you're making your own thing, it's always amazing.
[00:19:41] But when you can have people that not only have your back but can also give you kind of a ladder so you can keep moving forward, that's what it's all about.
[00:19:48] Yeah.
[00:19:48] Community.
[00:19:49] And Grimm's cool.
[00:19:49] He's good people.
[00:19:50] Yeah, definitely.
[00:19:51] Not fellow, that Grimm.
[00:19:53] Mystery.
[00:19:54] Mystery wrapped in an enigma.
[00:19:56] But definitely, definitely a big supporter of your stuff, man.
[00:19:59] Like, he couldn't say.
[00:20:00] He just said nothing but good things.
[00:20:01] Like, hey, you got to check out Camelzot's comics.
[00:20:04] Check out his book when we first started talking.
[00:20:06] So, yeah, man.
[00:20:07] Definitely good stuff out of Grimm.
[00:20:08] Grimmcore Studios.
[00:20:09] But Primos, I want to go ahead and just remember, go check out the Kickstarter.
[00:20:13] Return of Camelzot's issue two.
[00:20:15] It'll be on our socials and, of course, follow at Camelzot Comics.
[00:20:19] Stay tuned.
[00:20:20] We'll be right back.
[00:21:23] And we're back, Grimmos.
[00:21:24] Thanks so much for hanging with us.
[00:21:26] And we are back here with Rafael Flores, Elia Maria Madrid, and, of course, Kevin Garcia, Doc.
[00:21:32] Kevin.
[00:21:33] Oh, sorry.
[00:21:34] I got to put my feet down.
[00:21:36] I know you're at home, right?
[00:21:37] Most of us work from home still, but you couldn't even put shoes on.
[00:21:42] I know you maybe have pants on.
[00:21:44] For free, Kevin?
[00:21:45] For free?
[00:21:49] Oh, man.
[00:21:51] Oh, man.
[00:21:51] I don't know.
[00:21:51] Elia's just look like...
[00:21:56] Remember that?
[00:21:57] Look at that.
[00:21:58] Ugh.
[00:22:00] I went easy.
[00:22:03] Yeah.
[00:22:04] It got me.
[00:22:05] It got me.
[00:22:06] I don't know.
[00:22:07] It just got me.
[00:22:07] Look, I'm like red.
[00:22:09] It looks realistic.
[00:22:11] Yeah.
[00:22:11] It looks really realistic.
[00:22:16] Oh, guys.
[00:22:17] We're going to talk about some of the things we've been watching or consuming recently.
[00:22:20] One of the big ones that I got to experience recently was I watched Joker.
[00:22:26] The second Joker movie.
[00:22:27] I don't even know how to pronounce the title.
[00:22:31] The two.
[00:22:32] Joker, the opera.
[00:22:34] Folie adieu.
[00:22:36] Folie adieu.
[00:22:37] That follies?
[00:22:39] Folly adieu.
[00:22:41] Folly adieu.
[00:22:42] The second folly?
[00:22:44] Yeah.
[00:22:44] Okay.
[00:22:45] I don't speak French, I'm assuming.
[00:22:46] But yeah.
[00:22:47] Folie adieu.
[00:22:48] You know we have a large French-speaking audience.
[00:22:50] They're going to get after me for a while.
[00:22:50] Of course.
[00:22:51] All the primos in France.
[00:22:53] Assistance, you're playing?
[00:22:54] Okay.
[00:22:55] Dang it.
[00:22:56] Please help.
[00:22:57] Please help.
[00:22:57] Please help.
[00:22:58] But I'm going to try to speak on the film a little because the internet's been abuzz about
[00:23:02] it by the time this is out and moving.
[00:23:05] Is it an actual musical or is it one of those things where they just have a hallucination
[00:23:08] and they start singing?
[00:23:12] The fact that he can't answer yes or no.
[00:23:14] I can't answer it honestly.
[00:23:16] Okay.
[00:23:17] Fair enough.
[00:23:18] There's.
[00:23:19] Yeah.
[00:23:19] Okay.
[00:23:21] Where to begin?
[00:23:22] Okay.
[00:23:23] I want to try not to spoil things.
[00:23:24] Okay.
[00:23:25] I don't want to.
[00:23:25] But I want to.
[00:23:26] I want.
[00:23:26] But I want to give you at least an impression of what I saw and what I felt.
[00:23:30] From there, take it for what it's worth.
[00:23:32] Right.
[00:23:32] So.
[00:23:34] The singing.
[00:23:35] I can appreciate when you want to mix music or some sort of performance or theater to
[00:23:39] a film.
[00:23:40] Right.
[00:23:40] You can kind of.
[00:23:40] Okay.
[00:23:40] Like La La Land example.
[00:23:42] I know it's a bigger hit.
[00:23:43] It's more commercial.
[00:23:44] Right.
[00:23:44] But the set design was great.
[00:23:46] They kind of pushed things out there to nowhere.
[00:23:48] You kind of seamlessly saw these things occur and you kind of ran with the film and
[00:23:52] the performance, the dancing, what have you.
[00:23:54] Right.
[00:23:55] This kind of.
[00:23:57] I'm not against Joaquin Phoenix in a moment of sorrow or joy.
[00:24:03] Like breaking into a song.
[00:24:05] Then it feels like, wow.
[00:24:06] Like the depth of a character going through a change or through a loss or something and
[00:24:12] expressing himself through song or even through dance.
[00:24:15] You kind of go, oh, okay.
[00:24:17] But when I tell you that they literally.
[00:24:21] They.
[00:24:22] I feel they shove musical numbers down your throat that go way too long.
[00:24:28] Then it does feel as if they're trying to do a musical where, okay, let's sit down and
[00:24:33] we're going to watch a two, maybe a four minute performance of song and dance.
[00:24:38] But when you watch a song and dance performance, it's supposed to be enjoyable.
[00:24:43] You're supposed to like, oh, like this is.
[00:24:46] Wow.
[00:24:46] It brings an emotion out of you.
[00:24:48] Be it.
[00:24:48] Be it a dark or a lively or jovial emotion.
[00:24:52] This was like unnecessarily done.
[00:24:55] Like this makes.
[00:24:56] This doesn't move the story forward.
[00:24:58] You're just showing me that Lady Gaga can sing.
[00:25:00] Great.
[00:25:00] Wait, she can sing?
[00:25:02] Oh my God.
[00:25:03] Has she ever recorded any songs?
[00:25:04] Oh my God.
[00:25:05] Something about poking her face.
[00:25:07] I don't know.
[00:25:07] Something like that.
[00:25:07] That's right.
[00:25:08] That's right.
[00:25:08] Let me ask.
[00:25:09] Let me ask you.
[00:25:10] Like, have you seen other musicals?
[00:25:11] Like, I think Dreamgirls is always one of my favorite musicals.
[00:25:14] It's really well done.
[00:25:15] Chicago is one where it's very surreal.
[00:25:17] And then, of course, the best musical of all time.
[00:25:19] Little Shop of Horrors.
[00:25:20] Yes.
[00:25:20] Little Shop of Horrors.
[00:25:22] Not a fan of Grease.
[00:25:23] Grease?
[00:25:23] Never been a fan of Grease.
[00:25:24] No.
[00:25:25] I love Grease.
[00:25:25] My mom would make me watch Grease.
[00:25:27] Mine did too.
[00:25:29] How do I kick Kevin out of the room again?
[00:25:31] Hold on.
[00:25:31] Sorry.
[00:25:33] I'll go with Kevin.
[00:25:33] Little Shop of Horrors.
[00:25:35] Like you said, right?
[00:25:36] Like, okay.
[00:25:37] Elia and Kevin to an extent.
[00:25:39] Rafael, I don't know.
[00:25:40] You all have more of a pulse on the theater performance side of things maybe than I would.
[00:25:46] What would you consider most musicals?
[00:25:48] Even Sweeney Todd was a musical, right?
[00:25:50] Yeah.
[00:25:50] I enjoyed that.
[00:25:51] Yeah.
[00:25:51] I loved it.
[00:25:53] Yeah.
[00:25:53] I enjoyed that one.
[00:25:55] It's enjoyed.
[00:25:56] There's a point where you can even go like, wow, this is a...
[00:25:58] You can kind of get into the vibe of the song or the performance.
[00:26:03] This wasn't that.
[00:26:04] This was them performing standards.
[00:26:07] Sinatra standards.
[00:26:08] I was going to say, they're not even original songs, right?
[00:26:10] No.
[00:26:11] They're all covers.
[00:26:13] Everything from Sonny and Cher to Frank Sinatra.
[00:26:18] And it was very disappointing.
[00:26:20] People were walking out of the free screening.
[00:26:22] Like, all right.
[00:26:23] They left and never came back.
[00:26:25] I thought they were going to get a drink.
[00:26:26] No.
[00:26:26] They were like 40 minutes in, got up and just left.
[00:26:29] Like, they did not come back.
[00:26:32] My wife and I enjoyed the first film.
[00:26:35] And we...
[00:26:36] The film teases you as a fan of writing.
[00:26:39] They hint at certain characters doing certain things, certain nods.
[00:26:42] Things are like, okay, there's a twist coming, right?
[00:26:45] Why are you showing me this character?
[00:26:46] It's like Chekhov's gun.
[00:26:47] Why are you showing me this?
[00:26:48] Why are you focusing on this and not delivering?
[00:26:51] I hate when I see a movie and I can tell, like, the camera zooms on the item and it never comes up.
[00:26:56] I know.
[00:26:57] It happens a lot.
[00:26:58] It happens a lot in this film.
[00:27:00] With people, places and things, and even Gaga's performance.
[00:27:06] Not to knock anybody out of it.
[00:27:09] It was a vehicle for her.
[00:27:11] She could be a good actor.
[00:27:12] She can be a good actor.
[00:27:13] It was a vehicle for her to sing.
[00:27:15] It's like that joke I made last year with Captain Marvel.
[00:27:19] I'm like, oh, let's remind everybody that she can sing.
[00:27:22] Because that's literally what it was.
[00:27:23] It was a lot of singing.
[00:27:25] That movie needed a second number.
[00:27:27] It really did.
[00:27:29] No, no, because one made it sound, feel out of place.
[00:27:32] If it had the two, it would have been like, oh, it's a reprise.
[00:27:35] We get it.
[00:27:35] Like, it makes sense.
[00:27:36] Okay.
[00:27:36] I have a question about the content of Joker.
[00:27:38] So, sure.
[00:27:39] One sec.
[00:27:39] Touching on that, Captain Marvel, it was almost a fun, okay, it's goofy, it's campy, right?
[00:27:45] They're singing and dancing, okay.
[00:27:47] They acknowledged it.
[00:27:49] This is not.
[00:27:50] This is very much like hard cuts.
[00:27:52] No seamless transitions.
[00:27:54] And then when you see it happen, you're like, you're kind of jarred.
[00:27:56] Oh, okay.
[00:27:57] We're in a number now.
[00:27:58] And then you kind of said, like, that was unnecessary.
[00:28:01] Like, there was, they did nothing for the story.
[00:28:03] I feel.
[00:28:04] So, I even tried to dig.
[00:28:06] Okay, hold on.
[00:28:06] Let's give it a shot.
[00:28:07] Maybe I'm being too commercial.
[00:28:09] Let me go to my art school days.
[00:28:11] And I'm like, okay, what would this represent?
[00:28:14] Well, what does this mean for the character, right?
[00:28:15] There were only blips of the Joaquin Phoenix's character, the Joker, Arthur, and kind of that tug of war between what they, in this version of it, that they believe there's a psychosis, that there's a split personality.
[00:28:30] Okay?
[00:28:30] That's what they believe.
[00:28:31] And so, that on top of the story from the first film, they kind of just leave it to a side.
[00:28:38] And you feel like you're lost.
[00:28:39] That's what I want to ask you about.
[00:28:40] Go ahead.
[00:28:41] What's the question, though?
[00:28:42] Yeah.
[00:28:42] So, like, part of why, like, I enjoyed the first film on its own merits.
[00:28:49] It's not great as a quasi-remake of the better Scorsese films, nor is it super great as a movie that would, in theory, exist in a superhero universe.
[00:28:59] But, like, on its own, it was okay.
[00:29:02] But the bigger issue for me is the messaging.
[00:29:06] The first movie was basically like, hey, you're an incel that feels the world hates you.
[00:29:10] You are right to do that, and you can get revenge.
[00:29:12] And I even said the only way this is going to work is if he gets a severe comeuppance at the end or learns a lesson.
[00:29:20] Instead, the lesson he learns is I was right and people loved me for it.
[00:29:23] And that by itself made me upset that the movie was made at all.
[00:29:27] And then when I found out the sequel was going to have Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn, my issue with that is the story of Joker and Harley Quinn was always intended to be an example of a bad relationship.
[00:29:39] Whenever I see people being like, oh, I'm his Harley and he's my Joker.
[00:29:42] No, if you want a gothic, horrible, like, relationship, Gomez and Morticia, they're amazing.
[00:29:48] They murder each other and other people and they smile and love each other while doing it.
[00:29:52] But Harley and Joker are meant to be, this is an example of what not to do.
[00:29:57] And I feel like everybody who has that wrong message is going to go to this movie and it's going to be reinforced.
[00:30:03] Am I correct in that feeling?
[00:30:04] Okay.
[00:30:05] No, you are actually, I feel like they were on an apology tour.
[00:30:09] Okay.
[00:30:09] They were like as if, as if going, hey, maybe Arthur is sick.
[00:30:14] Maybe he is ill.
[00:30:16] But does he really love Lady Gaga?
[00:30:18] That's the problem.
[00:30:19] Well, sorry.
[00:30:20] And the thing is they, what they do with the Harley Quinn storyline is they, they kind of twist it to where, and me and my wife talked about it when I look, the characters are toxic with each other.
[00:30:29] At a certain point.
[00:30:31] You can change how they're toxic.
[00:30:33] Yeah, but there, it's an, it's a weird square peg in a circle.
[00:30:41] Like it's like they're just trying to make this happen and they do force it together.
[00:30:46] Like they clobber it in together to those pieces and then it just falls apart.
[00:30:49] And there's no real substance there at the end of it.
[00:30:51] There's no connection.
[00:30:53] There's no reason for you to want them to even be together.
[00:30:57] There's no, or separate.
[00:30:59] You're kind of like, okay.
[00:31:01] Like what happened?
[00:31:02] They took his teeth away is what I'm going to say, because I'll go on the opposite end of it.
[00:31:07] I like the fact that the Joker ended up with that aggressive, you know what?
[00:31:11] Eat the rich, right?
[00:31:12] Like the poor.
[00:31:13] I don't, I don't, I don't disagree with that.
[00:31:16] We're there, right?
[00:31:17] Like he had teeth, like he did something at the end of it.
[00:31:20] And not to say he's the hero, but he walked away with, you know what?
[00:31:24] This is, this is where I'm at in the world.
[00:31:26] I'm going to take it for what it's worth.
[00:31:27] And I'm going to run with it my way.
[00:31:29] Right.
[00:31:29] Hence the song at the end, my way.
[00:31:31] But now it's more so like, like I said, apology to her.
[00:31:35] Cause it's more so like, oh, maybe, maybe, maybe he is sick.
[00:31:38] Maybe he's not the guy you want him to be.
[00:31:41] And Hey, people out there yelling his name in the street.
[00:31:43] Maybe I'm faking it.
[00:31:45] Maybe I'm not really, I don't want to be this guy.
[00:31:47] Like he's literally just pushing back on everything he was doing in the first film
[00:31:51] and relying a lot on Gaga or Harley Quinn in this case to be like dragging him along like
[00:31:57] a puppy dog almost.
[00:31:58] Like he is like obsessed with her and she's taking advantage of that because she wants
[00:32:03] the Joker romance to happen.
[00:32:06] And the singing didn't help.
[00:32:08] And I don't like, I just didn't like the vibe.
[00:32:11] And at the end of it, me and my wife were like, if they would have had a great musical
[00:32:14] number inside the jail cell during a riot somehow, that's kind of like an interesting
[00:32:20] way to kind of play with the musical, right?
[00:32:22] Like, Hey, it's a musical.
[00:32:23] We're singing, you know, like, that's what I wanted from Marvel's.
[00:32:25] I wanted Marvel's to have a musical number in the fight with the bad guy.
[00:32:28] I really wanted that second.
[00:32:30] You didn't get that here.
[00:32:31] So my, I don't do this often.
[00:32:34] And I really, I really don't.
[00:32:35] I really leave it up to you all, please.
[00:32:37] But I would tell you this much.
[00:32:39] If I have to do it on my scale and I don't go out of 10, I go out of five, but I literally
[00:32:44] go into a one or a two.
[00:32:45] This is very low on a scale.
[00:32:46] That rarely happens.
[00:32:47] It rarely happens.
[00:32:48] I'm pretty, pretty lenient on my scale, to be fair.
[00:32:51] Here's what I want to know.
[00:32:52] Raphael, how would you have done a Joker sequel?
[00:32:56] I would have made the movie because that's a terrible movie.
[00:32:58] I hated it.
[00:33:00] I'm a huge Batman fan.
[00:33:01] Okay.
[00:33:02] I read the comic books.
[00:33:03] I love Joker.
[00:33:04] Wait, you like Bass?
[00:33:05] Yes.
[00:33:05] I love that.
[00:33:07] I love golf culture and everything.
[00:33:09] But yeah, huge Batman fan.
[00:33:12] Always read the comics.
[00:33:15] And I love Batman animated series.
[00:33:17] Okay.
[00:33:17] That's where Harley Quinn was created.
[00:33:19] Okay.
[00:33:20] And the story, their story in that animated show and even in the comics afterwards, you
[00:33:26] can read those too.
[00:33:27] Their relationship and even the characters themselves have nothing to do with the movie,
[00:33:32] the Joker, or I feel like this movie too.
[00:33:35] Cause I, this is what happens when you let people make these movies with these characters,
[00:33:40] but they have no respect for the actual comics that these came from.
[00:33:44] They also have no point of reference for what these comics are.
[00:33:47] Like all their, the point of reference is all Heath Ledger and their other point of reference
[00:33:52] is Margot Robbie.
[00:33:54] They have no reference for what these actual characters are like.
[00:33:58] And so they make them and they're like, well, I want to do it my way.
[00:34:01] You know?
[00:34:01] And I'm pretty sure that's how they all feel.
[00:34:03] You know?
[00:34:03] I want to do my take on it.
[00:34:05] And, and it's like, do the characters justice?
[00:34:09] Make these, these characters are, dude, you've invested billions of dollars in these characters
[00:34:13] already.
[00:34:13] Okay.
[00:34:14] Yeah.
[00:34:16] Like do it right.
[00:34:17] Let people who are, who actually care about the comics make these movies and you'll make
[00:34:23] good movies.
[00:34:24] Like you could, you could have made a good Joker, Harley Quinn movie.
[00:34:28] I would have been like a Bonnie and Clyde fun romp or something, you know?
[00:34:32] But they didn't do it that way.
[00:34:33] Cause they don't care about the, the, the source material.
[00:34:36] I really think that when I watched it, like you said, it's like, I say they took a big swing
[00:34:41] at like, you know what, Joaquin, you're a pretty good actor.
[00:34:44] Let's just put that.
[00:34:45] Let's put it, let's put you to music and let's use the Joker vehicle.
[00:34:48] Like that's what it felt like.
[00:34:51] That's what it felt like.
[00:34:52] When you say that, uh, Rafael about like, they don't respect source material.
[00:34:56] It makes me think about, you know, the fan four stick movie that, that bombed and everybody
[00:35:01] really hit.
[00:35:01] I actually saw that in theaters.
[00:35:02] It was, it was bad.
[00:35:03] Dollar theater, but still, um, when they were making that movie flat out, they asked the,
[00:35:09] you know, the actors.
[00:35:09] So have you read the comics?
[00:35:10] They were like, Oh, the director told us not to read them.
[00:35:14] Like the director actively told them, don't look at the source material.
[00:35:17] And I'm like, that says a lot.
[00:35:19] Like you don't have to do a one-to-one recreation, but that says a lot.
[00:35:22] And I, and I agree with exactly what you're saying.
[00:35:24] It sounds like, especially after seeing the first movie that there was no thought other
[00:35:29] than the, you know, window dressing of Joker is this.
[00:35:32] I'll say my favorite Batman movie is, is Batman and Batman returns.
[00:35:36] Um, and I think Tim Burton actually did talk about how he read the comics and he, maybe
[00:35:41] he didn't read all of them.
[00:35:42] Sure.
[00:35:42] But he, he read, you know, the dark night.
[00:35:45] He read, you know, those, those, the classics, you know?
[00:35:48] And I don't know.
[00:35:49] I feel like, uh, these people today, they don't, they don't give a shit about comics.
[00:35:53] No.
[00:35:54] Listen, Elia, let me ask you, cause I'm, that's my, you said you're my, you're my go-to for
[00:35:58] this stuff.
[00:35:59] What would be an appropriate musical, a contemporary musical?
[00:36:04] Here's, here's a tea though.
[00:36:06] I don't like musicals a lot.
[00:36:08] But I, I'm very much, I know, I know I'm a failure of a theater person.
[00:36:13] I already know that.
[00:36:14] But, um, like my favorite type of musicals are classic ones.
[00:36:18] Like I love Hello Dolly.
[00:36:21] I love The Sound of Music.
[00:36:23] But like, in terms of like modern ones, it's been hard for me to find one that I actually
[00:36:27] enjoy.
[00:36:27] Like the most modern musical that I actually find entertaining is between Pippin and Sweeney
[00:36:33] Todd.
[00:36:34] Like, it's those two and those aren't like, those weren't written before or after 2000.
[00:36:43] So, um, yeah.
[00:36:46] So like, I, I mean like Wicked's coming up and yeah, I'm hyped.
[00:36:51] I'm optimistic.
[00:36:52] Yeah.
[00:36:52] I'm optimistic.
[00:36:53] I am optimistic, but I, that might be one of the first modern musicals that I'm going
[00:36:58] to be like, yay.
[00:37:00] Cause I, I, I watched, uh, what's it?
[00:37:02] West side story.
[00:37:03] I was disappointed.
[00:37:04] Yeah.
[00:37:05] I tried to watch that recently and it was, yeah, it was rough.
[00:37:08] Yeah.
[00:37:09] Um, I'd like to lay Ms.
[00:37:12] For some characters, there were some characters that I'm like, stop.
[00:37:17] I've only seen half of the news, but Hey, you know, we're not going to talk about your
[00:37:22] history.
[00:37:23] No, not here.
[00:37:25] It's Freddie.
[00:37:26] Um, and then like into the woods, Disney messed up that musical.
[00:37:33] It should be a lot more loose.
[00:37:35] It's put loose.
[00:37:35] The musical.
[00:37:36] No, but it's got music in it.
[00:37:38] Is it not a musical?
[00:37:40] Do they, do they sneak?
[00:37:41] Like when they do dance numbers.
[00:37:42] I don't see it.
[00:37:43] I've never seen it.
[00:37:44] It's diegetic music.
[00:37:46] So.
[00:37:46] Yeah.
[00:37:47] But I mean like, and, but like, that's what made me so excited for Joker is cause I'm
[00:37:51] like, okay, it's a contemporary take.
[00:37:54] Also I'm a, I'm a diehard Gaga stan.
[00:37:56] So I'm like, Oh yes, let's heck and go.
[00:37:59] Um, and I, like, I enjoyed Joaquin's performance in the first one.
[00:38:03] I didn't really like the story liked, but I loved his performance.
[00:38:07] I'm like, you did what you needed to.
[00:38:08] Yeah.
[00:38:08] I'm like, you did what you needed to with the writing you got slay.
[00:38:11] So I'm like, put them together.
[00:38:14] I'm, I'm ready for the second one, especially cause Gaga singing.
[00:38:17] It looks very like, um, like hard hitting.
[00:38:21] And so like, I haven't seen it.
[00:38:24] And, but as soon as you told me, Freddie, like you, you're like, I have thoughts.
[00:38:27] And I like, I saw everything online.
[00:38:29] I haven't gotten it spoiled funnily enough, but I saw everybody's reactions online and
[00:38:33] it was trash, trash.
[00:38:35] And I'm like, no, what happened?
[00:38:38] So.
[00:38:41] And it's funny.
[00:38:42] I'm not, we're not, we're really not, I'm not spoiling anything, but my, the things
[00:38:47] that I've discussed and just the audience, I went to the restroom during,
[00:38:51] the song or during one of the songs and someone in the restroom was like, damn, this movie
[00:38:55] is long.
[00:38:56] Like they were complaining that this movie is long because the numbers made it so long,
[00:39:01] but the little moment you get of, uh, Joaquin Phoenix, you still get that shine.
[00:39:06] Like, okay, fuck, this guy can act.
[00:39:08] You know, like he, he is holding this thing together, but everything else just, we introduced
[00:39:16] Harvey Dent, but why?
[00:39:18] I was excited for it if they were going to lean into the weird, but it sounds like they
[00:39:23] didn't.
[00:39:24] I know.
[00:39:25] And I thought it was going to have like more noir kind of feel to it.
[00:39:29] Yeah.
[00:39:30] I'm sad.
[00:39:32] I'm going to watch it for myself though.
[00:39:33] Maybe the issue is that the first movie, they purposely tried to imitate some Scorsese
[00:39:39] movies.
[00:39:39] Maybe they should have had some specific, this is what we're going for, like imitate a different
[00:39:44] genre movie, you know?
[00:39:48] I mean, we watched everybody.
[00:39:50] It was doomed to fail.
[00:39:51] I believe.
[00:39:51] Yeah, it really was.
[00:39:52] You think it was?
[00:39:53] I was happy.
[00:39:54] I think it deserved the sequel.
[00:39:55] There is.
[00:39:57] Yeah, it should not have been a sequel.
[00:39:59] I was happy with how it ended.
[00:40:00] It should have been a one and one and let it be.
[00:40:02] And I was happy with that one film.
[00:40:04] You can leave the audience wanting more and be okay with it.
[00:40:07] You don't have to accommodate just because they made money, right?
[00:40:09] But that's the industry.
[00:40:11] And even in the art side of it, as somebody that's been to film school, that's watched
[00:40:15] Fellini films, have watched obscure stuff, right?
[00:40:19] And kind of go like, this is not enjoyable.
[00:40:23] Like there has to be a point where you go, okay, I'm in for the weird.
[00:40:27] I'm here for the gore or I'm here for the story, right?
[00:40:30] But if you can't find the right line to put them together, there's no point in this film
[00:40:36] being made.
[00:40:37] I think that it should have been.
[00:40:38] Like my wife and me talked about on the drive home.
[00:40:40] We were just in disbelief.
[00:40:42] We're like, they could have done so much.
[00:40:45] They had everything they needed, but it just did not pan out.
[00:40:49] Like it just didn't.
[00:40:50] It was not a good movie to watch.
[00:40:53] My two cents for what it's worth, Primos.
[00:40:55] Check it out yourself.
[00:40:58] They should have hired Paul Dini to write the movie.
[00:41:01] Yeah.
[00:41:02] But then it would have just been like Batgirl over and over again, just changing clothes
[00:41:06] every few seconds.
[00:41:07] I mean, that might have been better.
[00:41:09] It might have been better.
[00:41:10] I mean.
[00:41:12] Hey, I mean, we all have, you know, somebody I know loves bats a lot.
[00:41:19] Do that way.
[00:41:20] But Kevin, you, and I know maybe Elia hasn't or Raphael hasn't.
[00:41:27] Agatha, you've watched Agatha recently.
[00:41:29] And I know that me and wife are waiting for it to stack up too.
[00:41:32] We want to kind of watch them.
[00:41:34] Yeah.
[00:41:34] I can't do the binging.
[00:41:36] I just can't.
[00:41:38] Okay.
[00:41:39] So wait.
[00:41:40] Wait, let me understand.
[00:41:42] Elia, just because Freddie hasn't seen it yet.
[00:41:44] Raphael hasn't seen it yet.
[00:41:45] Elia, have you seen it?
[00:41:46] No.
[00:41:47] Me.
[00:41:48] All right.
[00:41:48] Here's what happened.
[00:41:49] I'm looking for it, but.
[00:41:50] No, look, honestly, you know, I've seen some press saying that they don't like it, but
[00:41:56] I'm really enjoying it.
[00:41:58] It's a good sequel to WandaVision while not at all doing what WandaVision did because
[00:42:02] you can't do that twice, really.
[00:42:05] It's really good.
[00:42:07] The chemistry is amazing.
[00:42:08] It's probably the gayest thing Disney has done on Disney Plus.
[00:42:11] Really?
[00:42:12] Yeah.
[00:42:13] Like, seriously.
[00:42:14] Like, it's amazing how far they go compared to.
[00:42:15] Is there singing and dancing?
[00:42:17] Yes.
[00:42:17] Yes, there is.
[00:42:18] It is also partially a musical.
[00:42:21] It is.
[00:42:21] It's quite good.
[00:42:22] Yeah.
[00:42:23] And all the songs, when they do come up, it's few and far between.
[00:42:26] When they do, it makes perfect sense.
[00:42:28] And you cannot look away.
[00:42:30] Like, you know, watching with my partner, it was my friends.
[00:42:32] The entire song, we're riveted for the whole song beginning to end.
[00:42:36] Wow.
[00:42:37] Way total opposite from Joker.
[00:42:39] Yeah.
[00:42:39] Right.
[00:42:40] As you were saying how they cut away and they make you feel out of it.
[00:42:42] I'm like, no, this makes you feel more into the scene.
[00:42:45] And I'm like, that's what songs should do in a musical.
[00:42:48] And I would not, I would not describe the series as a musical, but it definitely has elements of a musical.
[00:42:54] Okay.
[00:42:55] Melodic.
[00:42:55] Okay.
[00:42:56] No, I mean, like, they break out in song.
[00:42:59] I love that.
[00:43:00] You pulled me in.
[00:43:01] Aubrey Plaza is in it.
[00:43:02] Yeah.
[00:43:03] Aubrey Plaza is in it.
[00:43:04] She is amazing in it.
[00:43:06] All the casting is good.
[00:43:07] And, yeah, they've got a Broadway actor in there.
[00:43:10] They've got Aubrey Plaza.
[00:43:12] Yeah.
[00:43:12] Of course.
[00:43:13] And, of course, they're bringing back Mrs. Foreman from, you know, that 70s show.
[00:43:19] Oh, she's in it, Kitty?
[00:43:20] Yep.
[00:43:20] She's amazing.
[00:43:21] Yeah.
[00:43:22] That's cool.
[00:43:23] She's perfect.
[00:43:24] Perfect in this show.
[00:43:25] It's really good.
[00:43:26] And, of course, there's a lot of conspiracy theories about who characters could be or whatnot.
[00:43:29] And I feel like if you guys wait and binge it, you're going to hear those spoilers before you get to go watch it.
[00:43:35] Because.
[00:43:36] To be fair, the AI or the guy clicking my boxes on whoever runs my phone.
[00:43:42] Like, I don't get a lot of spoilers.
[00:43:45] I'm going to be real with you.
[00:43:46] The algorithm is what you're talking about.
[00:43:48] Yeah.
[00:43:48] But that's been pretty fun, apparently, too.
[00:43:50] That it's cheaper to pay a guy to push buttons or check boxes for you than to have ChatGPT do it, apparently.
[00:43:58] So, even though they say, oh, we have AI.
[00:44:00] No, it's some dude in a computer going like this.
[00:44:02] Okay.
[00:44:02] Elliot likes.
[00:44:03] Peter Moon.
[00:44:04] On that note, let me switch gears entirely.
[00:44:07] Ask you about AI.
[00:44:09] I saw Wild Robot recently.
[00:44:11] Anybody seen Wild Robot?
[00:44:12] Not yet.
[00:44:13] I plan to.
[00:44:14] Wild Robot was awesome.
[00:44:16] It was so good.
[00:44:17] People were crying.
[00:44:18] People were laughing.
[00:44:19] It was so good.
[00:44:20] I only have two complaints.
[00:44:23] One kind about the ending, but I still love it.
[00:44:24] But the other one is the commercials.
[00:44:27] When I saw the very first trailer for Wild Robot, literally my thought was, oh, this looks good.
[00:44:33] Oh, this looks great.
[00:44:34] Wait, this looks like it happens later in the movie.
[00:44:35] Why are they showing it?
[00:44:36] This is clearly the end of the movie.
[00:44:38] Why are they showing it?
[00:44:39] That's obviously the last scene of the movie.
[00:44:41] Why are they showing it?
[00:44:41] And yeah, sure enough, all of that was in the first trailer.
[00:44:45] And so yes, watch Wild Robot.
[00:44:47] Do not watch the trailers first.
[00:44:48] Damn.
[00:44:49] Okay.
[00:44:49] That is really bad advertising.
[00:44:52] I do not.
[00:44:53] There is enough material.
[00:44:54] They could have just used the first 15, 20 minutes of the movie and had five trailers.
[00:44:59] And they would have not repeated a scene.
[00:45:00] It would have been beautiful.
[00:45:02] There was no reason to use the literacy.
[00:45:04] It's a great film.
[00:45:05] And at a bird's eye view of it, I would say.
[00:45:07] Literally.
[00:45:09] Yeah, I caught myself there.
[00:45:12] This is a film about, I don't know.
[00:45:16] It's not fair to say because I looked at it as a parent.
[00:45:19] Yeah.
[00:45:19] This is a film about family, a film about learning to let things grow and family and growth and change in a world that seems so scary or different.
[00:45:34] There are certain things that still lay a foundation like love and care and at the same time growth and change.
[00:45:43] Those things are scary.
[00:45:44] And a robot playing that role, which is universally just a robot with no feelings.
[00:45:50] No, they just are there to take orders, if you will.
[00:45:53] They take a really good swing with what they did and they knock it out of the park.
[00:45:57] They did a great job with this film.
[00:45:59] I really, really enjoyed it.
[00:46:00] And it's a lot of heart.
[00:46:03] And it really kept you engaged.
[00:46:06] Let me ask you a question as a parent, though.
[00:46:09] So, like, a friend of mine said that this was they thought it was parent propaganda, like trying to convince you to have kids.
[00:46:16] And I was like, but how did she feel about being a parent?
[00:46:21] And they're like, it was painful.
[00:46:22] I'm like, is that really propaganda?
[00:46:24] Like, is that really, you know?
[00:46:26] They even make a joke.
[00:46:26] And it's not like really a spoiler.
[00:46:28] They even make a joke.
[00:46:28] They're like, yeah.
[00:46:30] Oh, yeah.
[00:46:31] Being a parent, it's fucking hard.
[00:46:33] It's horrible.
[00:46:34] They take up your time, your energy.
[00:46:35] They basically say that in a kid's movie.
[00:46:36] Yeah, they're like, they take your food.
[00:46:38] They take your time.
[00:46:39] They take your money.
[00:46:39] You can't wait till they leave.
[00:46:41] If one dies, fine.
[00:46:42] Let them die.
[00:46:43] I'm done.
[00:46:44] You know, like, they literally like, okay, because they're animals.
[00:46:47] They're like, you know.
[00:46:48] I know.
[00:46:48] Just like now.
[00:46:50] I want to say one thing about the movie that is not a spoiler.
[00:46:55] But I want to address it because I laughed at this.
[00:46:59] And apparently I'm the only one in my group that laughed at it because they didn't know what it was.
[00:47:02] So I want to tell you what it is so that when you watch the movie, you're like, I don't know what that is.
[00:47:06] So first off, obviously the robot is visually made to look like Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky.
[00:47:11] Right.
[00:47:12] But the thing is, is that the character, the robot is from a company called Rossum's Universal Dynamics.
[00:47:19] And I laughed when I heard that because do you know where the word robot comes from?
[00:47:25] It's from a play called Rossum's Universal Robots.
[00:47:29] That's where the word robot comes from.
[00:47:30] So she is literally from the first robot story.
[00:47:34] I mean, that's not, I mean, the robots in that play are more like the robots in Blade Runner, you know, in that they're grown, they're biological robots, whatever.
[00:47:41] But that's where we get the word robot from is from that Czech play.
[00:47:45] And so I just, I love that little tip of the hat to history by instead of calling literally a 1920s cut, instead of calling it, you know, Rossum's Universal Robots, they call it Rossum's Universal Dynamics.
[00:47:57] Cause that feels more like a modern company.
[00:47:58] Yeah.
[00:47:59] But like, that's still what it is.
[00:48:01] And I was like, that's a, that's a nice reference that I'm surprised more movies don't make.
[00:48:06] And literally I thought I was with a bunch of geeks seeing it and none of them got the reference.
[00:48:09] And I was like, you call yourselves geeks.
[00:48:12] I mean, the cast is dope, man.
[00:48:14] It's Pedro Pascal, Lupita Nyong'o, Mark Hamill's in it.
[00:48:17] Bing Reigns is in it.
[00:48:19] Primos.
[00:48:19] There you go.
[00:48:20] Primos.
[00:48:22] Our Mexican sister, Lupita Nyong'o.
[00:48:25] Yeah.
[00:48:26] We claim her.
[00:48:26] Yes.
[00:48:27] We do.
[00:48:27] Yeah.
[00:48:28] We claim her.
[00:48:29] We need to.
[00:48:30] We need to.
[00:48:30] We need to.
[00:48:31] But yeah, Wild Robot is, it's fun.
[00:48:32] I definitely recommend it.
[00:48:33] I think Kevin and me kind of, yeah, yeah, it's, it's worth it.
[00:48:35] It's, it's dope.
[00:48:36] It's fun.
[00:48:36] It's, it's a good animated film.
[00:48:38] It's free works.
[00:48:38] Down in your head if they made you choose Joker 2 or Wild Robot, Freddy.
[00:48:44] Megalopolis.
[00:48:45] But it's a different, different conversation.
[00:48:46] So yeah.
[00:48:48] Yeah, no, Wild Robot, hands down.
[00:48:50] Wild Robot, 100%, 100%, 100%.
[00:48:52] Definitely worth watching.
[00:48:54] But Elia, I know you mentioned earlier, you watched, and it's kind of offline.
[00:48:58] You watched something that I, I swear to you, I thought this was canceled.
[00:49:02] Like, I thought this was gone and canceled.
[00:49:04] The TV show.
[00:49:06] Yeah.
[00:49:06] The show.
[00:49:07] Yeah, Primos.
[00:49:08] So I was like, for the, I'd seen it on my, my Disney Plus for a while.
[00:49:13] And I saw, I'd seen a featurette of like the creator and kind of behind the scenes.
[00:49:18] So I'm like, okay, I'll give it a try.
[00:49:19] I'll watch a couple episodes.
[00:49:22] And so I did.
[00:49:24] And like, I, I don't want to judge it yet.
[00:49:27] I don't want to, I don't want to give it like my full, I don't like it.
[00:49:31] I'll get like whatever.
[00:49:33] But it's definitely, so here's where, where I'm going to be defensive about why I, I don't
[00:49:41] like it.
[00:49:42] But there's definitely like some stereotypical things that happen in the show, but I don't,
[00:49:50] it's Disney.
[00:49:51] I want to believe that Disney had a lot to do with how this depiction of a Latina family
[00:50:00] was going to have to be portrayed to be on their network.
[00:50:03] It was very, it was just very like poke fun at the quick things that you can teach a gringuito
[00:50:09] about in a show, you know, like what translate to a gringuito that would culturally or show
[00:50:16] the culture the easiest.
[00:50:19] And so there's just like little bits like that.
[00:50:22] There's like the nicknames for all the kids are just kind of derogatory.
[00:50:25] And I know that's like our culture.
[00:50:27] I get it, whatever.
[00:50:27] We all have nicknames making fun of us.
[00:50:29] I get it.
[00:50:29] But like, why does it have to like transcend into the show?
[00:50:33] I, it was just very like, it didn't seem like, I just don't know.
[00:50:43] It's not my favorite right now, but I'm not going to, I'm not going to quit on it because
[00:50:47] Does it feel like it wasn't made for us?
[00:50:50] That's what I was going to ask.
[00:50:51] Yeah, exactly.
[00:50:53] That's definitely the feel.
[00:50:54] It felt like it wasn't made for us.
[00:50:56] It felt like it was made as a form of entertainment to kind of satisfy the Latina representation
[00:51:03] lack thereof.
[00:51:04] Through the white days.
[00:51:06] Yeah.
[00:51:06] Because the intention, the intention for the creators was a show for Latina people.
[00:51:12] And I think, if my understanding is the creator has a background kind of like myself with
[00:51:16] like this mixed, you know, white and Latino background.
[00:51:19] Yeah.
[00:51:20] But the thing is, is that like, I think stereotypes in that sense can be good done well from within
[00:51:26] the community.
[00:51:27] You know, like, I think remember the little homies, you know, those little homies.
[00:51:32] Nothing but stereotypes, but we all love them.
[00:51:34] Right.
[00:51:35] Because we knew, but like, I know that guy, he lives down the street.
[00:51:37] You know, it was funny, but it was, it was felt real.
[00:51:39] But when it's like, when it's artificial in force, that's what it feels like.
[00:51:43] Are they laughing with us or at us?
[00:51:45] Yeah.
[00:51:46] And I don't know.
[00:51:48] Yeah.
[00:51:48] And I think, and I will always say this when I'm consuming, like any form of like Latina
[00:51:53] media that is depicted in the States.
[00:51:55] Like I didn't have the upgrip bringing that like all the other Latina people had.
[00:52:00] I grew up super gentrified.
[00:52:02] I grew up super, like, I didn't get to indulge in la cultura until like I was in college.
[00:52:08] Like food excluded.
[00:52:09] My mom always cooked Mexican food, but that's it.
[00:52:12] Like, so anytime I see like depictions where it's like, oh, they're, they live in the hood.
[00:52:18] They live or like, yeah, they, they like, oh, what was it?
[00:52:21] I think they literally.
[00:52:22] 50 people live in one house.
[00:52:24] Yeah.
[00:52:24] That's the point of the show.
[00:52:26] And the sepia tone is all so in every single episode so far, it's all yellow toned.
[00:52:31] I'm like, you guys, I thought we were past this.
[00:52:36] Like, you know, like.
[00:52:38] Isn't Lalo Alcarazzo on a speed dial for Disney?
[00:52:41] No, I don't know.
[00:52:44] Like Disney, you fucked up again.
[00:52:46] Like what's going on?
[00:52:47] But I heard like.
[00:52:48] Did you throw a trademark pre-host?
[00:52:50] Like gave it praises.
[00:52:51] So I'm hoping it gets better because like, you know, I don't know.
[00:52:56] I want to, I want to be hopeful because yeah, Disney as a platform, as much as they're
[00:53:00] like, we include everybody.
[00:53:01] They don't.
[00:53:02] That's no, they don't.
[00:53:04] And so I like to get excited when I see titles like this finally hit the homepage and I'm
[00:53:10] like, oh, let's watch it.
[00:53:11] And then I watch it and it's like.
[00:53:14] You know what was good and goofy and fun?
[00:53:16] Victor and Valentino.
[00:53:17] Did you guys watch that?
[00:53:18] I heard good things about it.
[00:53:21] That was really good.
[00:53:22] I think that's Nickelodeon.
[00:53:23] If I'm off, please correct me.
[00:53:25] But yeah, it's like that show was goofy and fun and it poked fun at like a lot of the beliefs
[00:53:32] of like Meklon and like the underworld and all these things.
[00:53:36] Right.
[00:53:36] And but it wasn't it.
[00:53:38] It was like the homie effect.
[00:53:39] Like you say, like, oh, it's funny and goofy because we can laugh at it.
[00:53:42] And it's almost treated with enough care that you can go, oh, this is cute and fun.
[00:53:46] When we watch the book of life, there are a lot of tropes and a lot of like stereotypes
[00:53:49] in there to sense that we can laugh at.
[00:53:51] Right.
[00:53:51] And we can enjoy it.
[00:53:52] We know it's treated with respect and who's who's caring for it.
[00:53:56] But this one sounds a little.
[00:53:59] Can I tell you about where they use the stereotype?
[00:54:03] Well, there's this webtoon called Myth Up, like like myths and legends.
[00:54:08] Right.
[00:54:08] And there's this they go to Mexico and it's all sepia tone.
[00:54:12] And they're having like cops investigating the cartel.
[00:54:15] Yeah.
[00:54:16] Finally, one of the cops looks at the other guy and goes, what are you doing?
[00:54:18] And it's like, oh, I bought these sunglasses.
[00:54:20] I thought I'd make everything look kind of cool.
[00:54:22] And I was like, hell yeah.
[00:54:23] That's funny.
[00:54:24] Like when I saw this episode, I was like, oh, you know what?
[00:54:26] I was giving this comic a chance.
[00:54:27] And I don't know.
[00:54:28] Then as soon as it's like, you had me.
[00:54:30] You had me.
[00:54:31] You had me.
[00:54:31] You had me.
[00:54:32] You had me.
[00:54:33] You had me.
[00:54:33] You had me.
[00:54:33] You had me.
[00:54:35] You had me.
[00:54:39] You had me.
[00:54:40] You had me.
[00:54:40] I don't know.
[00:54:40] We'll see.
[00:54:41] We'll see.
[00:54:42] I'm watching it cautiously.
[00:54:44] But I want to give it a chance, especially because like the art is so cute.
[00:54:48] Like it.
[00:54:49] And I don't know.
[00:54:50] I want like, especially because it's animation.
[00:54:51] I love pushing animation.
[00:54:54] And yeah, it's getting harder to find good animation.
[00:54:56] You know?
[00:54:57] Yeah.
[00:54:58] If you don't, then they won't, they won't make any more.
[00:55:01] Right?
[00:55:01] Exactly.
[00:55:02] That's why I'm trying to be like, no, like we'll get through it.
[00:55:06] You know what?
[00:55:07] I'm glad you said that Raphael, because that reminds me of Electra, the movie.
[00:55:12] Literally when Electra and Catwoman flopped, Ike Pumutter and all these other producers were
[00:55:17] like, well, that's why we can't have female superheroes because it's never going to sell.
[00:55:20] And it's like, those two movies sucked, especially Catwoman.
[00:55:23] Like, you know, and it's like, why you like, well, we can never have a female hero again
[00:55:29] because of that.
[00:55:30] And it wasn't until they kicked Ike Pumutter out of Marvel that they were able to make
[00:55:33] Captain Marvel and also Black Panther.
[00:55:36] And the thing is, is that like, I hate that what you said is correct, that they're going
[00:55:41] to look at Primo's not doing well or not getting good reviews and being, oh, that's
[00:55:45] why we can't show the culture.
[00:55:47] Like, I think nobody understands it.
[00:55:49] I think nobody gets it.
[00:55:50] But it's like, people making it didn't really.
[00:55:53] Exactly.
[00:55:53] Do it in an authentic way.
[00:55:55] In the 90s, Nickelodeon pulled Speedy Gonzalez because they were afraid of offending Latinos.
[00:56:00] And literally, Lulak and others were like, bring our hero back.
[00:56:03] We love Speedy.
[00:56:04] And it's like, they didn't get it.
[00:56:05] Now they're going to see this and be like, oh, see, they're offended by this.
[00:56:08] Let's not show them anymore.
[00:56:09] No, but there's still a place though.
[00:56:10] Like you said, Rafael, there's still a place for it to where we can go.
[00:56:13] Look, just because it's a Latino-ish story, I don't have to just immediately like it.
[00:56:19] You know, I have to go support it because it's a Latinoist.
[00:56:22] It's like the industry is what it is.
[00:56:25] It's a beast that feeds on your money, right?
[00:56:27] And so, yeah, if it doesn't make money, then they assume, oh, well, we can't have a Latino cartoon.
[00:56:32] Like, no, there exist cartoons that have Latino characters.
[00:56:34] Look at Los Casagrandes.
[00:56:35] That show hit.
[00:56:38] They make, they have one.
[00:56:41] Dora hit.
[00:56:42] Let's make it that one.
[00:56:43] Dora hit.
[00:56:44] The goat, yeah.
[00:56:45] Dora, all that thing.
[00:56:47] People enjoyed it.
[00:56:48] It was what it was.
[00:56:49] It knew its audience and it catered to it and it cared for it.
[00:56:52] But it was such a hit that there were white people using Dora as an insult.
[00:56:57] Right.
[00:56:58] So there's a double-edged sword.
[00:57:01] Double-edged sword.
[00:57:02] Yeah, exactly.
[00:57:03] Double-edged sword.
[00:57:03] They're like, Dora over here because she had an accent.
[00:57:05] I'm like, hmm.
[00:57:07] So she was so popular.
[00:57:08] We're always going to be the joke to the wrong people.
[00:57:10] That's true.
[00:57:11] You can't, you can't.
[00:57:12] Yeah.
[00:57:12] You're right.
[00:57:12] You're right about that.
[00:57:13] You just punch him in the face.
[00:57:14] Use violence.
[00:57:15] I'm just kidding.
[00:57:15] There you go.
[00:57:16] Violence.
[00:57:17] For legal reasons, that is a joke.
[00:57:18] No.
[00:57:18] Somebody can use violence.
[00:57:20] Just not legally us.
[00:57:20] For legal reasons, that is a joke.
[00:57:23] It's a joke, guys.
[00:57:24] Joke, guys.
[00:57:24] Primo.
[00:57:25] Remember the disclaimer.
[00:57:26] It's a joke.
[00:57:26] It's a joke.
[00:57:27] But, Rafael, you know, right here around the time at the end of the show, we usually try
[00:57:30] to bring things up to, we can either recommend things we've been watching.
[00:57:34] I know it's a spooky season here.
[00:57:35] We're in Halloween-ish times.
[00:57:37] And, you know, the fall has some great stuff that we just kind of grew up or just love watching
[00:57:41] or reading or consuming.
[00:57:44] What's something that comes to mind that you can recommend to the Primo's?
[00:57:46] I know you have, you love horror.
[00:57:48] You know, we've talked, you know, on our own about some fun films you've recommended
[00:57:51] to me as well to watch and check out.
[00:57:53] So what's something that maybe some might not know or happen to know that you could
[00:57:58] recommend for this time of the year?
[00:58:00] I went to go see Blue Beetle recently.
[00:58:02] I fucking love that movie.
[00:58:03] Yeah, we saw it too.
[00:58:04] Not Blue Beetle.
[00:58:05] I meant Beetlejuice.
[00:58:06] Beetlejuice.
[00:58:06] Oh.
[00:58:08] I haven't seen the same movie.
[00:58:09] Both of those.
[00:58:10] I haven't seen Beetlejuice.
[00:58:11] Yeah, Beetlejuice is great.
[00:58:12] I love Michael Keaton.
[00:58:14] Big fan of his work.
[00:58:16] The movie was great.
[00:58:17] It had like a BG song.
[00:58:19] Fucking damn it of that.
[00:58:21] Like, you know, since then.
[00:58:23] It was like, it really is Tim Burton, like going back to his roots of like just, just having
[00:58:29] fun, I guess, on these, on these sets or doing like just gothic core type stuff.
[00:58:33] It's great.
[00:58:34] I really like it.
[00:58:37] Yeah.
[00:58:37] And oh yeah.
[00:58:38] And that girl is his new girlfriend, Monica Bellucci or whatever her name is.
[00:58:41] Yeah.
[00:58:43] Great.
[00:58:43] She's sexy as hell.
[00:58:45] I love that movie.
[00:58:47] Is he putting whoever's girlfriend is in every movie?
[00:58:51] Oh yeah.
[00:58:54] That's iconic in Beetlejuice in the second one.
[00:58:57] Like it cracked me up.
[00:59:00] So Jenna Rotega, I love Jenna Rotega right now.
[00:59:03] I mean, like she's killing it.
[00:59:04] Talk about Latino representation.
[00:59:07] I mean, she's like number one actress right now in Hollywood right now.
[00:59:10] Yeah.
[00:59:11] She's killing it.
[00:59:12] Yeah.
[00:59:13] And she's bringing authentic gothic, you know, type of representation of Latinos, you
[00:59:19] know, because we, a lot of us are gothic and, and, and like all that type.
[00:59:23] And, and I love it.
[00:59:24] So anything she does, I'm a big fan of.
[00:59:28] So it was a great movie.
[00:59:29] I enjoyed it thoroughly.
[00:59:31] Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
[00:59:33] Nice.
[00:59:33] Nice.
[00:59:34] Well, you know, if we're winding down here and things I've already talked about, don't
[00:59:37] go watch Joker.
[00:59:38] Don't.
[00:59:39] Definitely.
[00:59:40] I mean, you can.
[00:59:41] I mean, you can.
[00:59:41] Go see Beetlejuice.
[00:59:43] We're not going to tell you what to do.
[00:59:44] Go see Beetlejuice.
[00:59:45] Yeah.
[00:59:45] Just walk into Beetlejuice.
[00:59:46] Beetlejuice.
[00:59:46] Beetlejuice.
[00:59:47] And then see it a third time as Beetlejuice.
[00:59:48] Oh.
[00:59:49] Oh.
[00:59:50] That's next year.
[00:59:51] That's next year.
[00:59:53] That's next year.
[00:59:54] No, but yeah, I know.
[00:59:55] I'm serious.
[00:59:55] I got, I think that one of the things I always want to, right around the fall, we always
[00:59:59] bring it up.
[01:00:00] Me and my kiddo.
[01:00:01] And it is an animated miniseries.
[01:00:05] Most of you might know it.
[01:00:07] Elia seems to know it.
[01:00:08] Yeah.
[01:00:08] And it is over the garden wall.
[01:00:10] I have yet to see it.
[01:00:11] Over the garden wall.
[01:00:12] And I've heard it's back on streaming.
[01:00:13] It's so good.
[01:00:15] It's back?
[01:00:15] It is back?
[01:00:17] What is it back?
[01:00:18] Where?
[01:00:18] I've heard it's on streaming.
[01:00:19] I don't know where, but I remember hearing that it's back on streaming.
[01:00:21] Yeah.
[01:00:21] No, I've literally been hunting down DVD of it.
[01:00:23] I need to watch it.
[01:00:24] I need to watch it.
[01:00:25] I have not seen it yet.
[01:00:25] Let me look it up, Barry, because I've heard it's back.
[01:00:27] It's not a new season or anything.
[01:00:29] It's just the same.
[01:00:30] No, no, no.
[01:00:30] Same one.
[01:00:31] No, no.
[01:00:31] Yeah.
[01:00:31] It's like a fall classic that always was.
[01:00:36] I remember watching it on Cartoon Network.
[01:00:38] Yeah.
[01:00:40] It did.
[01:00:40] It did feel like a fall classic.
[01:00:42] Elijah Woods in it.
[01:00:43] Okay.
[01:00:44] It's on Hulu.
[01:00:45] Make yourself a.
[01:00:47] It's on Hulu.
[01:00:49] Happy Huluween.
[01:00:51] Happy Huluween.
[01:00:51] It's also rentable for $1.99 on Amazon.
[01:00:55] Okay.
[01:00:56] Y'all, when I tell you, like,
[01:00:58] make yourself a hot pot of soup.
[01:01:01] Make yourself a hot chocolate.
[01:01:03] Get cozy and watch over the garden wall.
[01:01:05] Yeah.
[01:01:05] Put a teapot on your head.
[01:01:08] On your head.
[01:01:09] Yep.
[01:01:09] I've steamed so much cosplay.
[01:01:11] I need to get a giant frog to walk around with you.
[01:01:13] Yeah.
[01:01:14] No, it is a little weird.
[01:01:14] I do that every day.
[01:01:15] Yeah.
[01:01:17] Now, over the garden wall is such a whimsical,
[01:01:22] heartfelt, like, coming of age story in, like, Halloween.
[01:01:26] I don't even know.
[01:01:27] It's, like, everything that makes you feel, like,
[01:01:33] nostalgia, yet concern and unease at times, too.
[01:01:37] Like, it's so well done.
[01:01:39] The animation and the acting is great.
[01:01:41] Christopher Lloyd is in it.
[01:01:42] Elijah Wood.
[01:01:43] Elijah Wood.
[01:01:44] I need to watch out.
[01:01:45] I mean, it has John Cleese, Shirley Jones.
[01:01:49] I'm telling you, like, this is, like, huge names that are just in...
[01:01:54] Over the garden wall would be something that I recommend that if you've never seen or it's been a while,
[01:02:00] just go look for it.
[01:02:01] I'm trying to buy it.
[01:02:03] Yeah.
[01:02:03] Yeah.
[01:02:04] That I just...
[01:02:04] I need to just own it.
[01:02:05] Because if it does disappear, then, you know, it's gone.
[01:02:08] Kind of like my video games that I've...
[01:02:10] That I've learned.
[01:02:11] I've learned recently that now that all the games that I thought I bought digitally,
[01:02:15] I don't own because they're saying it's a license to use my game.
[01:02:20] So if the license goes away, whatever, it's gone.
[01:02:23] It's gone.
[01:02:23] Bring back pirating.
[01:02:24] I'm just kidding.
[01:02:26] It never went away.
[01:02:27] That's something to keep in mind for your music.
[01:02:30] Something to keep in mind for your movies.
[01:02:32] I have a dealer.
[01:02:33] There you go.
[01:02:34] Oh, you have a plug.
[01:02:34] Put your dealers in line.
[01:02:37] Look, I'm going to say right now that I've always was upset that when Nintendo made them a 3DS,
[01:02:44] that they never put into there the 3D Virtual Boy games, which was their one flop system.
[01:02:53] And somebody, not going to name names, installed into my 3DS the ability to now play Virtual Boy games.
[01:03:00] And it is as beautiful as I imagined it to be.
[01:03:02] Why did Nintendo never do that?
[01:03:04] Do you ever have seizures?
[01:03:05] Because apparently that caused so many seizures.
[01:03:07] No, that's the thing.
[01:03:07] With the 3DS, you can adjust the lighting and you can adjust how much 3D it has.
[01:03:11] And I'm like, the system was made for these games.
[01:03:14] They could have brought them back.
[01:03:16] Kevin, what about you?
[01:03:17] What have you been consuming or obsessing right now?
[01:03:19] I am obsessed over one of the greatest comic books that I have read in a long time.
[01:03:25] And that is World's War Comics, which is now physically printed.
[01:03:28] Wow.
[01:03:29] I know.
[01:03:30] I know.
[01:03:31] And also, you know, I got the cards and I got stickers.
[01:03:33] I got the whole thing around.
[01:03:35] I mean, like, I have all this.
[01:03:37] And I want to actually put this online eventually.
[01:03:41] First things first, I want to get to the backers.
[01:03:44] But Freddy Lopez Jr., the cover artist who did a bunch of other art, he wants me to have it with him at Casa in San Antonio.
[01:03:50] So we're going to do that.
[01:03:51] But then I'm sending it to the backers.
[01:03:53] And after that, I'm going to figure out a way to get it available to other people.
[01:03:56] Because I'm really happy with the way this came out.
[01:03:59] It was a lot of fun.
[01:04:00] And because it took me so long, I added a bunch of, like, supplemental material to the back of the book.
[01:04:07] So the backers, I'm like, look, it took me a while.
[01:04:08] Here's stuff.
[01:04:09] You know?
[01:04:10] I can't wait.
[01:04:11] I can't wait for my unboxing.
[01:04:14] I had to get the Silver Age size bags to fit how big this book is.
[01:04:19] Nice.
[01:04:20] Nice.
[01:04:20] I'm excited.
[01:04:20] I'm a backer, so I can't wait.
[01:04:22] And Elia, what about you?
[01:04:24] What have you consumed or recommend here for the fall season or season?
[01:04:29] So on the horror side, I'm a very big fan of REC.
[01:04:36] I don't know if any of y'all know this horror movie.
[01:04:39] So it's in Spanish.
[01:04:41] Oh, yes.
[01:04:42] I do know that one.
[01:04:42] Yes.
[01:04:43] Because it was remade in English as...
[01:04:46] We don't got to talk about it.
[01:04:48] That's not talking about it.
[01:04:49] You're right.
[01:04:49] But I do know that one.
[01:04:51] Yeah.
[01:04:52] But it's basically like, what is it?
[01:04:54] Like Blair Witch Project style recording where it's like...
[01:04:57] Found footage.
[01:04:58] But not found.
[01:04:59] It's like actual CCTV.
[01:05:02] Yeah.
[01:05:02] And so it's like following a periodista all around a town in Spain.
[01:05:08] There's some kooky shit going on in an apartment building.
[01:05:13] And the story thus continues.
[01:05:16] It's super like...
[01:05:18] It's a thriller slash horror slash body horror, maybe.
[01:05:25] I don't know if that's a spoiler for it.
[01:05:26] But no, I watched it for...
[01:05:28] When it comes to horror, I mean...
[01:05:29] Yeah.
[01:05:29] I watched it for the first time with a group of friends who didn't speak Spanish.
[01:05:32] So they all needed subtitles on.
[01:05:34] But I didn't need the subtitles.
[01:05:35] I was just kind of listening.
[01:05:36] So I was just reacting quicker than them.
[01:05:38] I was just like...
[01:05:41] R-E-C?
[01:05:42] Yeah.
[01:05:43] R-E-C.
[01:05:43] It's just record.
[01:05:45] Yeah.
[01:05:45] Oh, record.
[01:05:46] Okay.
[01:05:47] Yeah.
[01:05:47] When you say R-E-C, it threw me off.
[01:05:49] But I was like...
[01:05:49] Yeah.
[01:05:50] It's just R...
[01:05:50] It's abbreviated to record.
[01:05:52] It sounds like R-E-C.
[01:05:52] Yeah.
[01:05:53] It's a wreck.
[01:05:53] It says something else.
[01:05:54] Exactly.
[01:05:54] So R-E-C.
[01:05:55] I see.
[01:05:56] Okay.
[01:05:56] Yeah.
[01:05:57] I remember...
[01:05:57] That's like, what?
[01:05:58] 15 years old now?
[01:05:58] How would it come out?
[01:05:59] Like early 2000s?
[01:06:00] Yeah.
[01:06:01] Yeah.
[01:06:01] It's been a bit.
[01:06:01] But it was a big indie hit when it came out.
[01:06:03] I say indie.
[01:06:04] Indie in the United States.
[01:06:05] Yeah.
[01:06:06] I think it was good in Spain or wherever it came out from.
[01:06:09] But then they did make a remake of it in English, which was...
[01:06:12] Yeah.
[01:06:12] You know, what it was.
[01:06:14] And then there was a sequel, I think, in Spanish.
[01:06:16] Yes.
[01:06:17] Yeah.
[01:06:17] I haven't seen the sequel yet.
[01:06:19] I plan on seeing it this year, though.
[01:06:20] I'll keep y'all updated.
[01:06:21] But I love that first one.
[01:06:22] If you need just a thriller night.
[01:06:24] Light in the dark.
[01:06:25] Light a couple candles.
[01:06:27] Yeah.
[01:06:28] Love that.
[01:06:28] And I'm also a sucker for The Shining.
[01:06:30] I'm a shining girl.
[01:06:32] Another movie I've yet to watch.
[01:06:34] Ooh.
[01:06:34] It's a lot to watch.
[01:06:35] We'll have...
[01:06:36] I feel like this will be Halloween season.
[01:06:38] We do moving forward for the rest of the season of the month, I should say.
[01:06:43] But I want to just thank everybody, of course.
