Alright primos I'll be real with you. I went into Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, feeling a little burnt out. After Meteor City, which felt like a slow-moving art project I didn’t ask to be part of, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But this one? Way better.
Benicio del Toro absolutely owns the screen as Zsa-Zsa Korda. He’s funny, sharp, and you can’t look away when he’s on. Mia Threapleton, playing his daughter Liesl, brings real heart to the story. Her performance really grounded it. The rest of the cast is stacked too—Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Michael Cera, Cumberbatch, you name it. But here’s the cool part: they don’t just show up to show off. Everyone fits into the world.
Now, not gonna lie, there are still a few moments where the movie slows down . like some scenes stretch just a little too long. It might be Wes doing his usual style thing, setting the mood, but it does throw off the rhythm a bit.
Still, I had a great time. It’s funny, stylish, and actually had me invested in these characters.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 from me.
The Phoenician Scheme might not win over everyone, but if you're into that quirky Wes Anderson vibe with a little more substance, this one’s worth the watch.
🎬 Go check it out while it’s still in theaters—and let me know what you think, primos.
